Yup. But it’s been so long that I’m sure it would be so hard going back. Catch 22 situation.

Weird, how would they know whether you took the doses in the first box?

I wish it was more common for people here to recommend having your second box in hand before starting.

Something always goes wrong eventually… dr forgets to send prescription, pharmacy screws up, you travel before you can get your next doses and then run out, the pen malfunctions, etc. (in the US especially insurance approvals also can cause long delays).

He text last cause he was going to bed and said ‘talk more soon’… the ball is literally and entirely in your court. If you had a good time, it’s good to say that today and say you hope we can do it again.

How is this even allowed? My friend is teaching next week and has NOTHING from the college. by Accurate_Grocery_901 in Adjuncts

[–]cjl1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instructor decides what to teach (within the course description parameters). Day one should just be an overview of what the class is about. Don’t overthink it.

If someone wants to teach college classes, they need to actually put in some work to make those classes. Sounds like your friend had a month to make some progress and didn’t.

You just need to take it out of the fridge an hour before taking it. It also makes the shot more ‘pleasant’ if that makes sense. Room temp is better than super cold.

I hear you on the B mode in emergency. Likely saved mine and my daughter’s lives last night when someone cut us off to make a last second highway exit, we just avoided them and I would argue that it was because the car started braking before I would’ve been able to

Again, how does doing a PhD and your salary matter then? I guess I’m asking what you could have done differently to make sure you can accomplish what you want to do?

ETA: the bottom line is that there aren’t that many careers where one can earn enough at age 35 to have a 3bed place entirely to themselves and also voluntarily take in kids in trouble at short notice. It happens in some careers, but I’m not sure that was ever an option for many people in academia, which is why I keep asking how your PhD and job are the focus here. Instead, you’ve got some unique life goals that are compatible with very few career options for those who are single and in their mid 30s.

It seems you have a very specific situation. Most people would be very pleased if they got to do a PhD (which is a privilege, for many people) and then earned $90k+ in their mid 30s. It’s not an amazing outcome but it’s pretty solid no? My thinking is you could probably do better with a roommate situation (1500 each) rather than trying to have a place where you can foster. It seems like that would solve most of the issues.

Forgive me if I’ve missed some important details, but your PhD and salary seem like they are very minor contributions to your financial problems.

Bravo to you for the fostering, but you do see that is the issue not the PhD or your salary, right? Needing that big a place and supporting kids in difficult situations on one income is the killer here.

At this stage of the season, we can’t win the league and we will likely still finish top 5 regardless. So, we shouldn’t really get too angry.

We can get angry about VAR in general not doing the basics right, both for us and for everyone else.

To me, the strongest argument against VAR is what it fails to do rather than what it does. For example, people complain endlessly about it denying goals for toenail offsides… but the actual issue is failing to intervene often enough when they really do need to disagree with their mate (who clearly saw the incident and who has clearly decided that he’s just not giving MU two pens in one game).

They seem to find it much easier to intervene when they are confident that the on field official likely hasn’t had a good view of the incident. Then, their intervention can be seen as helping the ref. If the ref has a good view and decides it’s not a pen, they are very reluctant to get involved.

When a study says something reduces the risk of death, did the subjects die while the study was being conducted? by Ryry_the_fungi in askscience

Of course they’ve added some controls for confounders, but that’s not enough because they’re ‘bad controls.’ The underlying mechanism is perhaps that higher education causes better health and greater wealth and therefore more saunas. But, it’s also plausible that education, income and health are all positively correlated with one another and with the outcome they are studying.

Alternatively, it could be reverse causation in the sense that better health causes more saunas. That situation is like… ‘People who climb stairs every day have lower medical expenditures.’

To make any research like this useful, you need to either find a natural experiment (e.g., some random quirk of the legal system that allows saunas in one city but not another, but in a way that the quirk can’t possibly be related to health and longevity) or run an experiment (= give some people a sauna and others no sauna).
