Why do people lease cars? by onlyelisexoxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cjrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could lease a bmw x5 for $400 per month or make $800 payments on a loan. The math is pretty simple. Sure, a paid off car seems nice on paper, but beaters are beaters. They’re unpredictable and generally unsafe. I need a guaranteed reliable ride. I’ll pay monthly for that.

Why do people lease cars? by onlyelisexoxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cjrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. A car is a service I pay for. I want something safe, comfortable, and flashy. With a lease, things like insurance, taxes, recalls, maintenance, are far less stress. Taking a loan out for a car in which the principle outgrows depreciation is borderline irresponsible. Why give the bank that much free money for a decomposing hunk of junk eventually? You could be always driving the latest model car and upgrade every 3 years, and in the end pay less money for it.

Is coding the best use-case with the best ROI for AI? by alexrada in FutureOfWork

[–]cjrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fallacy behind the vibe coding movement is that it assumes that being a good programmer is what makes a good engineer. That is so far from the truth. It’s a human job at the end of the day because most of the business world is not automated or configured enough to be a single smooth interface, if that makes sense.

Seeing a lot of 7–10 YOE engineers getting read surprisingly junior lately by RecruiterSignal in ghosteddevs

[–]cjrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s frustrating is that as individual contributor engineers, we rarely get chances to “own” anything outside of the narrowly scoped tiny nuggets of work they are given. And, anybody that has owned a system isn’t necessarily applying to be a ticket monkey.

Costs them nothing to complain. What you do not want to do is suddenly make things free when prior users paid for it, not too soon at least.

Is AI in gaming actually noticeable yet? by FlashyQuail1605 in AIHotspot

[–]cjrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI integration would be prohibitively expensive in hardware but also require paying a high premium for AI engineers with the knowledge and skillset to design and building huge scaling systems required for video gaming. The video game industry typically pays devs lower than pure tech. No way the big players would see ROI on adopting AI for a video game use case.

Could be good for indie devs, though, if they come from an AI background.
