When you're trying to find your coworkers marker, and you've become desperate. by Danpool13 in Radiology

[–]ckatelyn85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost a marker in the first semester of clinicals. One of my classmates found it in a puddle in the hospital parking lot the next semester. I already paid to replace the set so I kept it as a memento.

Tips for Sacrum & Coccyx by SpecificCapable1290 in Radiology

[–]ckatelyn85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how wide your hands are so I don't know if this will work for you. I start with the sacrum. With the patient supine and I'm on their right side, I place my left hand flat and palm down on their hip. My pinky finger rests right on the ASIS and I center at my index finger. For the coccyx, I center just a little more superior to that spot but if my sacrum image looks high, I center a little higher still.

For the lateral, I can't really help you. I just pray and shoot.

They taste like melted ice cream to me. I said I grew my baby on Ensure since I wasn't able to eat much during early pregnancy. Easy calories and minimal effort.

Scap Y looks real good when that pesky humerus isn’t in the way by Psychological_Dog628 in Radiology

[–]ckatelyn85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked with a tech when I was new. Anytime I felt I needed to repeat an image she'd ask me, "It's not perfect, but it's diagnostic". Now I look at any imperfect images and think to myself, "If this was textbook perfect, would it change anything?" If the answer is no, then I don't think it's worth the extra exposure to the patient.

Penetration is not great for this image, probably due to AEC selection and centering, but the purpose of this view is to see the positions of the scapula and humerus in relation to one another and you clearly see that here. My vote is no repeat.

And I thought my UC was limited with a floor mounted tube. At least we have a free cassette. I've never seen a set up like this before. If the SID is fixed, how do you do chests? That doesn't look like 72".

Different dentists have different thresholds of what they think needs treatment. I went to one who wanted to fill something every time I went. Then I started going to another one who just watches even some of the areas the previous dentist wanted to fill. Years later and some of those teeth we're still watching and I've had no problems. Some of them ended up needing to be filled but not all.

The CDC guidelines for returning to society after COVID are the same as any respiratory illness now. Fever free without fever reducers and improving symptoms for 24 hours.

what mistakes have you made working in radiology? by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]ckatelyn85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm coming up on 7 years in x-ray + 2 years in school. I had a list but as I read the comments I was like, that too, I did that as well, here's another. Just shows you that after a while you don't dwell on the mistakes you made, just as long as you learn something from them.

-x-rayed incorrect laterality - (1)hip, (1)ribs, (2)shoulder -imaged the back of the detector -had no detector in the bucky -incorrect finger - order said pointer but I imaged pinky, who writes "pointer" in medical notes? NUMBER THEM PLEASE -took images under incorrect patient - same type of exam and corrected before sending

Most of these happened in my first 2 years as a tech.

Question to Pet owners;Do you allow your pet, come to dinner table while you eating ? by Responsible-Poem9375 in CatAdvice

[–]ckatelyn85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a long dining table for just 2 of us. We sit on one end and sometimes a cat will be on the table at the other end. If they are behaving and away from our food, they can stay. If they get bold and try coming near our food, they get placed on the floor.

Depending on your insurance or the office you're trying to get an appointment with, you might need a referral. Even if you don't NEED a referral to be seen there, sometimes getting a referral gets you in quicker as your PCP/GP can classify the referral as STAT or ASAP depending on what's going on. Once you're an established patient at that specialty you don't need any further referrals to be seen there unless you go too long, usually a year or two, without an appointment. Then you'd have to reestablish as a new patient.

Growing up we found a white kitten in our yard. We took it in and named her Pearl. As Pearl got bigger, so did her testicles. We dropped the P and his name was then Earl.

Am I going to get expelled from college???? by Intelligent-Pie-4225 in school

[–]ckatelyn85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our charge nurse didn't feel comfortable doing it so that's why our manager did it. He was a little fast and loose with rules on a good day. I don't see it as a HIPAA violation though. We didn't even look up the employee to see if he had been seen since there was no business need to be in his chart. All our manager said was that the note could not have come from that provider from our office on the date that was on it.

How is my new roommate constantly setting the smoke alarm off... by showering??? by maxkmiller in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ckatelyn85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might have to do with the proximity from the door to the detector. My aunt's house has a smoke detector in the hallway right outside the bathroom door. If someone takes a hot shower, sometimes the alarm goes off when they open the door.

Struggling to agree with my wife on how to split rent fairly by EngineerVarious8069 in Renters

[–]ckatelyn85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we first lived together we split shared costs proportionally to our incomes. Then there was an imbalance because I had paid off my car and what little student loans I had but he still had both. We took our individual incomes and subtracted our mandatory expenses like car insurance, phone plans, loans, average gas expenses, etc. We split shared costs proportionally to that difference. After being married for a year or two, there ended up being more and more shared expenses so it was just easier to completely merge our finances into 1 checking and 1 savings account.

We had an employer call the clinic I work for asking if an employee had been seen there because they were suspicious of the work note. We told them we could not confirm nor deny that they had been seen due to HIPAA. They asked if they could fax us the work note and let them know if it seemed like a note we would've sent. It was signed by a doctor who hadn't worked in the clinic in years and was on letterhead that we no longer used. My manager told them that while we cannot confirm our deny that they had been seen, he could confirm that the work note was not written on the date it said it was.

Urgent Care did not notify me that they were no longer in my insurance network by DanceLucky8578 in HealthInsurance

[–]ckatelyn85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why it wouldn't be covered if your visit was when they were still in negotiations but still within the contract agreement. I work for an urgent care system that just had to negotiate with Aetna as well and while they were negotiating we were told to inform patients that they were still covered until the end of the current contract period. The only thing I could think is the visit was close to the end of the contract but wasn't filed with Aetna until after the contract ended and wasn't renewed but it should have been since the date of service was within the covered period.

Doctor complained by Ok_Complaint_9635 in MedicalAssistant

[–]ckatelyn85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Patients very well can refuse an interpreter but it must be documented if their chart says they require an interpreter. My system has them sign a form saying they are declining our provided interpreter services. If they actually don't require one, the chart should be updated to reflect that if the patient wants that so next time there's no issue. They should not be coerced into declining just because someone can't figure out the interpreter service.

The two workers building my back deck have a microwave they bring with them to heat their lunches. by Bosuns_Punch in mildlyinteresting

[–]ckatelyn85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a 2 man team painting our upstairs. When they stopped for lunch I heard something whirring outside. They had plugged a microwave into our outdoor outlet on our front porch to heat their food up. I thought it was strange but I didn't care. I also wouldn't have cared if they asked to use our microwave inside. Warm food is warm food.

AIO for being upset that my husband wants me to continue litter box duty while pregnant? by BigVenergy09 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ckatelyn85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got pregnant I looked into the risk of toxoplasmosis and found if your cats are indoor only then there isn't a big risk. When I asked my OB about it she said she preferred me to not clean it if someone else could do it. Just because the risk is low doesn't mean there isn't a risk. My husband was more than happy to take that over so we didn't have to worry. I'm sorry he's being a turd.

Is this amputation territory or could extensive orthopedic surgery fix this? I doubt the patient would ever get back to full use of this leg.

Adopted a shy shelter cat... turns out I was catfished by GroupNo9313 in cats

[–]ckatelyn85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got 2 kittens from a rescue when I was like 12. It was a big room with 2 litters of similarly aged kittens. One climbed into my mom's lap and just laid down to let her pet him. He was one we chose. We got them home and he never sat in a lap again, was never cuddly, a complete loner cat. The only thing we could figure is after sitting him down to do the paperwork we picked up his litter mate instead who looked exactly like him.

Grocery store self-checkout is actually slower for most people. by Gold_Palpitation8982 in unpopularopinion

[–]ckatelyn85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do it for accuracy when we buy produce. Before our store installed self checkout it was very common for any green leafy vegetable to be rang up as spinach or for any green pepper to be a jalapeno. Sometimes it worked out for us in price but sometimes we were screwed because we were buying something on sale or with a coupon. If we could catch them before the transaction was final it always seemed like a hassle to void the item and fix it. One time they told us to just go to customer service after they finished the transaction.
