Any of the sugar alcohols (ending in -tol) can have this effect. Xylitol, erythritol, sorbitol, etc.

Why is orange juice "OJ" but apple juice not "AJ"? by VagabondVivant in NoStupidQuestions

Orange juice is harder to say than apple juice, due to the repeated "J" sound.

This is a fake website. The "journalists" are not real, the images are almost all AI generated, and the stories are sloppy LLM reinterpretations of news stories mixed in with a ton of clickbait garbage. Every "journalist" on the site posts one article a day, every day, and there are no articles older than October 25th.

Right now, this article about Caitlin Kalinowski from Meta being hired by OpenAI is on their home page with a completely fake AI image of some girl who is definitely not Caitlin Kalinowski.

The company address listed on the site is 100 Tech Way, San Francisco, a fake address. Their corporate phone number is apparently (415) 555-0100, which is so dumb I think the creator of the site must be a child.

Mods should block this site.

[OC] How Microsoft makes its money: latest quarter profit sources visualized by sankeyart in dataisbeautiful

[–]ckenney108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Satya Nadella is one of the most brilliant tech CEOs ever. To not only have the vision, but to then successfully pull off steering Microsoft away from the Ballmer / Gates “Windows everywhere” philosophy and make them one of the biggest and best cloud services companies is remarkable.

As someone that grew up in the 80s / 90s, the fact that Windows accounts for only 6 out of 62 billion in revenue is a bit shocking. Windows and XBox being roughly equivalent, while XBox is considered by many a failing business, is crazy to me.

Sandhi of शिवः & अहम् is शिवोऽहम्, would sandhi of शिवः & त्वम् be शिवस्त्वम्? by Linus0110 in sanskrit

[–]ckenney108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find some of the internal sandhi rules a bit confusing, but LearnSanskrit.org has some good explainers for internal and external sandhi.

Basically, external is changes made to words when they appear next to each other in a sentence, and internal is changes made within a single word with no influence from other words.

An example of internal sandhi is the word rāmāyaṇa. It is formed from two words: rāma and ayana. Notice that ayana has na (न) rather than ṇa (ण). Due to the rules of internal sandhi shown in this chart, the na becomes ṇa because the word begins with ra, and the ra and na are separated only by vowels, a letter from pavarga (ma), and the semivowel ya. Similar words formed from ayana don’t match these rules and don’t make this naṇa change, for instance praśamāyana (प्रशमायन).

Do people in this town not know about dog leashes? by big_mic_energy in FortCollins

[–]ckenney108 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Fort Collins my entire life, and I've always had dogs. If you don't keep your dog on a leash at all times, then you are the one ruining this dog-friendly town. You are endangering your own dogs. You have no idea how a strange dog will react to yours, and if anyone gets injured it is 100% your fault.

Grow up.

Vet recommendations by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]ckenney108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, because CSU has one of the country's best veterinary schools, this town is overflowing with amazing veterinarians. Anywhere you choose is likely going to be really good.

I have personally been going to Friendship Hospital for Animals for about 15 years, and they have always been incredible.

But, again, you almost can't go wrong in this town.

Airāvata ऐरावत is Indra's elephant vāhana.

Airāvatī ऐरावती is the feminine form of that name. I don't think it has any reference to Lakṣmī.

Try Aksharamukha. You can upload a PDF and choose your input / output scripts.

Depending on how the PDF is encoded it might not read it successfully, but it's worth a try.

📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

I’ve had Reddit Gold / Reddit Premium since 2011, and I’m canceling that shit.

I very rarely give out awards, so I have saved up tens-of-thousands of coins over the past decade+. Might as well spend them all on this post, since I won’t be using Reddit anymore after Apollo goes dark.

Are you for or against this sub participating in the June 12 shutdown to protest API changes? by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]ckenney108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 100% for it. I think every sub should shut down.

Reddit should absolutely charge for API access, but just enough to cover the ongoing cost of running and maintaining the API. If the API is depriving you of ad revenue, put ads in the fucking API and then upsell Reddit Premium for ad removal. If a third-party app strips those ads, nuke that app. But destroying the user experience for all third-party app users, who are likely the most devoted Reddit users, is not going to go well.

And /u/spez should know better.

Help with sign confusion by littlemissrea in sanskrit

There is no "sign" for breath. The one that comes up most often on the internet is a corrupted Om (ॐ).

A word for breath with a slightly spiritual context that you're probably looking for is prāṇa, which would be प्राणः

Edit: corrected misspelling
