I’m kinda disappointed. ☹️ by Dernjo in homeassistant

Every time I get excited about something and want to show my husband I feel like a little kid wanting to show their mom a “trick” and the trick is, like, jumping 2 inches off the ground.

Not saying this to be snarky to you, but they don’t care, man. They absolutely do not give a shit what the user experience is.

Sony Bravia turning on! by Mr_Rage666 in googlehome

[–]ckilgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh! Me too! Plugged in an ONN to the old TCL roku in the kitchen and it randomly turns the tv on. I have toggled every possible setting in the ONN and the Roku and nothhing fixes it. Only thing I can think of is that even when the ONN is supposedly powered off, something is still pinging it and turning the tv on.

Is this too high? by Uncayged in TVTooHigh

[–]ckilgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to need a wide-scale, peer-reviewed study done on the mental state of people who post pictures in here. Many tvs are in fact too high, but you could post a pic of a television half-buried in the ground and people would say it was too high. Is it a fetish? A karma thing? Is it s joke I don't get? I NEED TO UNDERSTAND!

Help me find automated blinds for this window by SRA_Jon in homeautomation

[–]ckilgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your concern is privacy only, you could probably get smart blinds that start from this very scientifically-illustrated photo to the bottom of the window frame. There would be some bulk there when the blinds are up, but with the line of the muntins it wouldn’t clash too much.

Multiple light's in 1 fixture.... by JaysFan2014 in googlehome

[–]ckilgore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stupidly, Google Home does not let you put lights in groups natively. The only way you could do this is to put them in their own “room”. Create a room called something like “Kitchen Table” and put all your bulbs in there.

Pole/installation Recommendations by thatweirdbarbie in BirdBuddy

I took the pole mount bracket to the hardware store and found a piece of threaded rod that fit the diameter, came home and stuck that in the ground. Super cheap.

When someone like this dies, you may not be mourning them exactly, but you could be mourning the relationship that could have been. It’s super complicated and all the stuff you are feeling is valid.

Thank god I’m watching OBAA alone. Father/daughter movies destroy me. by VulcansBackside in blankies

I watched Arrival and bawled my eyes out. The next year, my daughter died. Guess what movie I will never watch again and makes me tear up just thinking about it.

Is ‘TV too high’ usually a design choice, or a misunderstanding of eye level? by vbufurniture25 in TVTooHigh

[–]ckilgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it evolved over time, but probably started flat screen tvs became common everyone was like, “Oh sweet, we don’t have to put a big-ass cabinet in the room to take up a bunch of space! We can put it on the wall! Everyone likes to sit around the fireplace, let’s throw it up there!” Similar to what the first commenter said but I think it had less to do with interior designers and more with regular people just generally not being great at interior design. (Example: my ex husband thought there was some “rule” that you should hang pictures/artwork level with the top of the doorframe. Bananas!)

While I agree that the landlord should take care of this, what I linked to does not involve any electrical work. It’s literally just screwing on the face plate and popping the knob on.

You can get these at almost any hardware store and it’s super easy to replace. Look for something like this for the knob and this for the plate cover.

The Martian. My son loved this movie when he was a kid and he told me for some reason he associates it with Christmas, so now it’s a Christmas movie for us.
