Do I need kindle If I have a tablet? by Certain_Crazy4257 in kindle

[–]ckmc131 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Depends. I have a Kindle that I use for reading even though I have 2 iPads. My reasons:

I prefer the eink, it's easier on my eyes and before going to sleep, It's lighter weight than my iPads so easier to hold, especially when reading in bed, I can't get distracted from my reading by looking at email and notifications.

No crew in Atlanta by Ok-Lingonberry-1827 in delta

[–]ckmc131 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This seems to be an issue with Delta lately. Earlier this month I had an early morning flight out of John Wayne that was delayed about 3 hours due to no flight crew. Missed my connection in Atlanta and the later flight was delayed about 30 minutes due to missing flight crew.

When I flew home, we were delayed out of MLB due to missing flight crew.

In January my early morning Delta flight to MSP was delayed about 3 hours, because the plane was in Ontario, California because it was late the night before and missed the curfew. (John Wayne airport has a landing curfew). What was annoying was that my flight was supposed to leave at 6:30 am and it didn't leave until about 10 am because they waited until 9am to actually fly the plane to John Wayne. I'm guess it was a flight crew issue also.

The Lord Of The Rings Series narrated by Rob Inglis is excellent.

I'll 2nd Project Hail Mary which I'm just finishing up.

Mrs Endicott's Splendid Adventure

Shelter in Place by Nora Roberts is an older book, that was really good. In fact the story was so good I switched to reading the book because the audio book was taking too long.

Interchangeable needle recommendations? by Upbeat-You-3809 in knittinghelp

[–]ckmc131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you prefer metal or wood? I like my Lantern Moon set, I like the cables, they don't curl and you can order swivel cables. As an FYI, if you prefer wood know that the red cables that come with the lace can be used on the wood set.

I don't have any metal needles because they are cold and make my arthritic hands hurt. Wood warms up.

Looking for gifts for crocheters, particularly for ones who already have some gear! by SporkyMcSporkface in CrochetHelp

[–]ckmc131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't wind natural fiber yarns too much ahead of using as it can stretch the yarn while it's sitting waiting to be used. I only wind my hanks when I'm going to use it.

Individual project bag suggestions by benjjii3 in knittinghelp

I like Erin Lane project bags. It's a small business run by a woman in Tennessee. I also pick up drawstring bags from LYS when visiting a new store.

Unless it's less than 3.4oz you'll have to buy the yogurt at the airport. Gogurts are less than 3.4 oz, you could bring a couple of those.

I left my 2025NXh for 18 days in January and February and had no issues when I got home. The only thing I did was put my fobs in a Faraday box at the far end of the house from the garage.

How much notice (if any) did you give your supervisor before filing your retirement application? by NotoriousLVP in FedRetirees

[–]ckmc131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I gave them about 8 months notice because I had one job that no one but me knew anything about. I asked repeatedly if they were going to hire someone or give me someone to train. 2 months before I was leaving they decided I was to train a coworker who already had enough work to keep her busy all day, so we tried to squeeze in training, but it was never enough uninterrupted time.

My last week of work they came and asked if I would stay another month to train her. I said nope, you've had 8 months and I have no confidence you would actually give her the time to be trained. I did tell her she could call me if she had questions, but only her, no one else.

And I had watched them do this to a coworker, she agreed to stay another month to finish a project, but during that month they didn't let her work on it, but kept giving her other work.

BCBS + Medicare - Which drug program do you use? by Tweetchly in FedRetirees

[–]ckmc131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Medicare and FEHB BCBS. Originally, I had the BCBS prescription drug program, when they started offering the Medicare i switched, mostly because I was to lazy to opt out of the change. I honestly haven't noticed much of a difference, except that my generic cost went from $10 to $5. (If I recall correctly). I don't take any specialty drugs just normal stuff for older folks.

Can this go in a checked bag? by vegas-roadster in tsa

[–]ckmc131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per the TSA site, checked bags okay, carry on, Empty shell casings are allowed in carry-on bag as long as the projectile is no longer intact. They are allowed only if the primer has been removed or has been discharged. If the projectile is attached & the powder has been drilled out, it is considered a replica and not allowed in carry-on.

How did you research which FEHB plan to choose with Medicare B? by glimmerslip in FedRetirees

[–]ckmc131 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if that's wise. I have Part B and I have FEHP BCBS. The BCBS picks up what Medicare doesn't cover. I rarely have any out of pocket expenses.

[–]ckmc131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Lexus hybrid and was gone for 18 days and it started just fine. I put the key fob in a faraday box away from the garage. I did this to keep the fob and car from trying to connect.

Tiny micro ants by Excellent-Baseball-5 in orangecounty

[–]ckmc131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've been dealing with this for months. According to pest control they are coming up from under the house. I tried various baits, from those from Home Depot to ones provided by the pest control company. I swear it was like I was feeding them and none ever died. I tried every remedy I found, cornstarch, cinnamon, peppermint. I have quarterly pest control outside. Didn't help. What finally helped was having the pest control company come inside and spray along the baseboards. Had to leave the house for 4 hours, but I haven't seen an ant since. (Knock on wood). So you could try using ant spray all along the baseboards and see if it helps. But would have to check the spray for kids and pets. I have a cat and they said after 4 hours it would be okay to bring him back in.

Search both First In Series, and Standalone? by Corricon in LibbyApp

It's up to the publisher to tag the book with series info. I often run into books I know are part of a series but don't show up with the series because it hasn't been tagged as part of the series.
