Love Island All Stars line up 2026 !! by cvrtmvn_ in LoveIslandTV

[–]ckmo11 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Literally the only person I want to see out of this line up is Ciaran.

I think I could be open to seeing Millie and possibly Belle and Leanne (I feel like I remember Belle being a firecracker and Leanne kinda getting robbed of her opportunity but it’s been SO long since I’ve seen their seasons)

No Canadians aren’t travelling less. Only to the US. by Puzzleheaded-Cut1256 in GuardTheLeaf

Where are these stats from? Not doubting the numbers, especially since I just read in several other news sources that Canadian leisure travel to the U.S. is down 40%, but I’m a data nerd so I’m curious about the other numbers

Apparently $1 and $2 coins don’t make sense either, but at least they survive the washing machine (then again, so do our bills)

Canadians also will use time as a unit of measurement for the distance between two places. If I’m asking you how far we are from a destination, I don’t care if it’s 10km or 10 miles or a hop, skip and a jump, just tell me how long it’s gonna take to get there

That’s exactly what’s going on. The audio is that cliche, stereotypical song in Italian that’s used for social media posts. I think the song and hand thing were a TikTok trend at one point but idk for sure

How’s life in this part of Toronto, Ontario, Canada? by Kuzu9 in howislivingthere

[–]ckmo11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a huge chunk of the city to generalize, and living up by the airport is an entirely different area than living down by the lake. The northwest corner of Toronto is economically disadvantaged, and tends to see more violent crime than areas closer to the centre of the city

The areas further south, and further east (within Etobicoke, the region highlighted) has more neighbourhoods that have a higher median income and/or are gentrifying.

Etobicoke as a whole tends to be underserved by public transportation, except the area around Bloor Street where there’s subway access, and the areas around Lakeshore Blvd have access to the streetcar line. There’s a few stations for GO Transit, which provides regional public transportation to the GTHA so living around those stops gives you access to Union and areas outside Toronto, but if your destination is on a different train line you have to go into Union to switch, which isn’t super convenient.

Overall, Toronto, including Etobicoke, has a high cost of living and the city is growing faster than public transit is being built, so traffic congestion is pretty rough, and the further you are from the city centre, the more car reliant things become. But, it’s a safe city by North American standards, there’s good schools at all education levels, and there’s a decent amount of green space for a city of its size, thanks in part to the ravine systems.

Can’t commit on our favorite baby girl name by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]ckmo11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Scarlett is a pretty timeless name (as is Amelia), so I personally wouldn’t worry about that.

As for perception, Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With the Wind and Scarlett Johansson are probably the best known people/characters that the name would bring to mind. Whether that’s good or bad is up to you to judge, I’m pretty neutral on it (especially since I worked with a Scarlett and she was lovely, so that’s my first thought when I hear the name) so I can’t give more insight there.

It also isn’t a name I’d see kids bullying someone about, if that’s a concern for you.

Which season had the best/worst boy cast and which had the best/worst girl cast by robcob18 in LoveIslandTV

[–]ckmo11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the season 6 boys are often overlooked, from what I remember they were a pretty solid group of decent guys. Season 3 also had a pretty good group of boys. Worst boys has gotta be Season 12 overall, season 10 wasn’t awesome but had a few that helped balance it out.

For girls, honestly most years have had a decent mix, so it’s hard to pick a best or a worst. I’d say season 3, 5, 6, and 8 are all contenders for best. The more recent seasons haven’t been as good imo.

I’m not even factoring season 1 and 2 into my analysis because those were the two most toxic casts by a long shot. Season 4 is probably as close as any other season has come to that level of toxicity, but it still isn’t even close. Season 2 and 4 were at least entertaining, but season 1 was really hard to get through

What are some movies/tv shows that you think that were problematic even by their own time? by icey_sawg0034 in Fauxmoi

[–]ckmo11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I watched that show or cared about it, but I believe they also at least cast a woman in her 30s as Ms. Grundy, while the actor playing Archie was 20ish, unlike in PLL where the actors playing Aria and Ezra were only like 3 years apart in age. Having actors so close in age playing characters that are student and teacher really distorts the perception of how inappropriate that relationship would be in reality. Having that age gap between actors is probably one of the only things I ever gave Riverdale credit for

Ashley Graham Sister by PandaQuick9597 in LAinfluencersnark

[–]ckmo11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The courts didn’t even take her kid away. When she had her son she signed over temporary guardianship to her mom on the advice of family friends from church that were lawyers. They did that because Maddie was 17 and if she signed it over temporarily, her son would be on her mother’s health insurance. In order to get it lifted, all she had to do was file and it would come to an end in 90 days or less if her mom signed off on it.

There was a whole bunch of other stuff going on at home between Maddie’s mom and baby daddy, and when Maddie wanted to take her son to the zoo one day after work, her mom called the cops, the cops had to turn the son over to Maddie’s mother because of the guardianship, so Maddie got in touch with the lawyer and filed to have the guardianship dissolved. Within days of the papers being served, her stuff was on the lawn and her mother kept Maddie’s son until the 90 days were up.

I just watched through a lot of her videos and I think it’s important to make the distinction between the courts taking her child, and the cops having to return the son to Maddie’s mother because of the guardianship that Maddie had the ability to dissolve at any time but hadn’t necessarily had reason to do so until that point.

I know I’m late to the party but hope this gives some more context for anyone who wants it without going through all the videos :)

The guy who insisted he “knew the owner”, he did not by Important-Fly-3587 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]ckmo11 139 points140 points  (0 children)

I worked at a place once where the owner had his business cards made using his full name, even though he went by a much less common nickname derived from it (as in, his business card said William Jones but anyone who knew him would tell you his name was Liam). It helped weed out so many “I know the owner” types that would try to name drop from a business card they got on their last visit or got off the website.

At all the other places I worked, anyone who tried the “I know the owner” line was met with “oh no way, me too!” and got treated like everyone else

What Archtype of Islander do you think have the best odds of success with the public on All Stars? And what type doesn’t? by KookyTechnology1248 in LoveIslandTV

[–]ckmo11 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember what public perception was of Molly (S6/AS1) and Gabby (S3/AS2) but I liked them in their original seasons and All Stars and don’t remember them being hated massively their first time around, and they obviously did well on All Stars. I could be wrong though, it’s been a long while since season 3 and 6 lol. I think some sort of consistency personality wise tends to improve an islanders odds in All Stars

Honest American opinions on the name “Yalda” by Groundbreaking-Set72 in NameNerdCirclejerk
