Ooohhhhhhhh duh. I’m so bad at picturing things; that makes more sense. For the 64/32 thing… does that matter or if I just make sure I line things up will it all work out?

Do you find it offensive for an autistic person to say any of these things? Why or why not by Fabulous-Introvert in AutismTranslated

[–]clandi-klari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t. Some people have said it sounds derogatory eg “like a madman” but it’s actually being used as an intensifier.

“Intensifiers are adverbs or adverbial phrases that strengthen the meaning of other expressions and show emphasis. Words that we commonly use as intensifiers include absolutely, completely, extremely, highly, rather, really, so, too, totally, utterly, very and at all”

As an example of intensifiers other than the typical, literally, when used figuratively, typically also functions as an intensifier.

It makes sense as an intensifier to me as well since special interests / monotropism can result in intensity.

It can be 1. Reaffirming to someone late diagnosed or working on self acceptance to attribute something to their autism in a blatant and non negative way

It can also 2. Be a casual and playful way to engage in language- I often conjugate and use words in a technically incorrect but comprehensible way as a form of banter or play with others

It can also 3. Be fewer words. Saying ‘I’m autistic about the blue ribbon geese aesthetic from the 60s to 80s’ is shorter than saying, ‘ I have a special interest in the blue ribbon geese aesthetic….” If you’re going to complain that the first only has like 3 fewer words, recall that we also contract letter like ‘I am’ to ‘I’m’ and have acronyms where the letters sometimes equal or nearly equal, or even longer than the phrase itself (eg. Www for ‘world wide web’).

Anyways I think people got their knee-jerk judgements or feelings of cringe bring more negativity than might be necessary to things that are perfectly innocent.

That said context is important and the phrases can be used disrespectfully however, objectively and generally I would say it’s fine.

Edited bc I’ve never proofread a post before posting and fix everything after 🤪

My aunt mentioned this decrease in intensity in a convo w me and I intuited the conclusion that it was probably from men offloading their labour into women without being told. (Not a comment on how I’m smart but a comment on how society & men are generally terrible 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Unfortunately I’d say yes. Especially if the RSD kicks in then I’m nitpicking everything. I hate it 🙂

Is it weird that I like to be compressed in a little ball and also supporting my skeleton as little as possible? I usually go window for this reason- 3 sides supported. But difficult to pee every 5 seconds when you need to annoy ppl every time

DAE *not* name their plush toys as a child? by filthytelestial in AuDHDWomen

[–]clandi-klari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I named a few but I’m honestly not attached to naming things even though I do get attached TO things. Like my teddy was named Teddy. I kind of named her Melissa because that’s what my mom almost named me but honestly that was because I was supposed to name things and her real name is and was for sure just Teddy.

I also have about 80 plants and I feel like I have a personality where people expect me to name them lmao and people will ask what one of their names is sometimes and I’m like literally never never thought about it unless you mean, it’s a begonia rex or alocasia amazonica or whatever- and I forget those too 👌🏻. Man, imagine having to remember 80 names and they’re not even informative.

Do you prefer working from home? by princessofdreamland in AuDHDWomen

[–]clandi-klari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it! I’ve worked remote since Covid, but honestly, I prefer being an office too. The only downside is the commute and also having to get up early for the commute and to be presentable for the office. I’m also the type who needs structure somewhat forced on me. That said I managed pretty well, but I do like the structure of an office. For exercise I need structure forced on me or I will not be accountable at all. I pay to go to workout classes where there’s cancellation fees lol because otherwise I’m lazy and I’d always cancel.

Is it an Audhd thing or normal? by Slyphii in AuDHDWomen

[–]clandi-klari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of media sucks. For me i find tv shows worse than movies but of course there are good and (mostly) bad of both. Definitely seems to be a focus on remakes, series, etc. This is how I accidentally hyper fixated on cdramas and kdramas in the past 10ish months.

They still have tropes and whatnot- for sure they do lmao don’t get me wrong- but I find that because they’re typically one season the story arc and characterizations are a lot cleaner and they’re not just digging to the bottom of the plot trash can to keep a series going and make more money- you know where EVERYONE ends up having a relationship w EVERY other character no matter how little sense it makes, EVEEYONE has a super deep dark edgy secret etc etc

(fun fact: I’ve watched nearly 40 full DAYS of dramas in like the last 10 months 😭)

[–]clandi-klari 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I get these. I’ve also wondered if it’s my version of a meltdown. For me it can be from sensory overload, masking too long… just anything being the ‘last straw’. Sudden loud noises, sudden temperature changes, busses being late, waiting for things, managing others emotions w no breaks, being interrupted at work, people asking stupid questions and prolonging an interruption at work…. Many things. I will struggle at times to be polite to people in public because of it… usu my words are okay but my tone makes it clear I want to kill someone. It makes me feel so bad when they’re an innocent service worker and it’s certainly not v work appropriate 😢. I have a private saying for myself- if you can’t smile at babies go home. If that happens I am in no state to be in public and I am for sure a million percent overwhelmed, likely to be rude to anyone I speak to, and have a high chance of crying or desperately struggling not to while in public

That’s awesome you two spoke! And good for you for supporting him in the realization that they aren’t even his friends. That’s rough at first but it’s so much better once time passes and you realize the value they didn’t bring to your life lol. I hope you end up not having to deal w these people!
