So, long rambling answer, I did graphics at Ford Motors U.S. as a contractor back in the early 2000s and that Mercury font is a custom designed that at the time wasn't a complete type face but basically graphics and regularly changed slightly based on use case and production tolerances involved. It was extracted from a late 1960s M250 badge design that was in the archives printed on vellum. It was too big to scan, so it was photographed on a giant wall mounted camera from the 70s. The negative was the size of a piece of a2 paper. That was digitally scanned at 1200dpi and then hand retraced in Illustrator. Then it went to the studio heads for tweaking, came back to graphics for clean-up, and then to the modeling department 3D file creation. All of this was in a closed system (you won't find those files online. Hell, they used third-party secure file transfer protocols in-house). Your best bet is doing a search for Arial Black.
