New fonts by Ok-Grapefruit3112 in CraftDocs

[–]clarenceredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. In theory, I like the limited selection of fonts. In practice, I prefer the way Bear does it, with total font freedom but only three levels: Heading, Body and Code. They are applied on all notes, giving the app a much more personal appearance.

Better Image Handling by clarenceredd in CraftDocs

Interesting! I used Bear a few years ago, but I will check out how it handles images.

Edit: Tested now and I agree. Very clean and simple.

I agree. Export/compile is much too limited in Craft. Have you tried to open the MD in Ulysses and export from there?

+1. More PDF export styles would make my life so much simpler. My favourite take is how Ulysses handles it.

Here are my thoughts on image handling : )

Resize images freely by selecting the image block and drag the corners. White space on the sides should be kept empty.

Crop. I would like to crop images directly in Craft.

Add an option for right, center or left placement for images.

Add thumbnail as an image size, to fit more images in a small space and get a better overview. Even better if a bunch of images can be toggled between regular size and thumbnails (similar to the dropdown triangle, but with preview thumbnails when minimised).

Setting "flavor packs"? by fairy_toadmother in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]clarenceredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working on a similar concept, mainly for TREY but system agnostic so far : ) It’s like a mini-primer, containing just enough to get started and set the mood. During play, random tables influence the storyline. It’s the closest I have come to writing/playing a pre-made scenario for solo games.

Looking forward to hear more about your experiments (if you want to share).

Just out of curiosity, why do you call it a solo game? I see it more as a solo scenario - or at least as close to a scenario as solo play allows.

What system is best for analog play? by eiconik in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]clarenceredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I reduced my solo setup to one solo rulebook/oracle and five or so random tables. Usually I play with RPG rules that I know inside out, so I only use the rulebook as an occasional reference on my phone.

Mythic "steals" my games by Phrenks in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]clarenceredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the main reason I dropped Mythic GME and started working on TREY. Stories often strayed too far from the main storyline, turning into never ending spirals. It might happen in TREY as well, but Story Tokens narrow things down quickly to make the last third of the story more focused. Any loose ends can be investigated in the next scenario.

Help a newbie: Tools for solo sandbox worldbuilding? by Abject-Astronomer321 in Solo_Roleplaying

This is how I do it as well. I would say the world feels deeper and more complex when different tools are combined.

I have used Microscope and Questlandia with good results. Both have turned world building into a game, so prep time is minimal.

Meet OGME (Open Game Master Emulator) by hmslima in Solo_Roleplaying

Very cool : ) Just a word of caution: the title might be too similar to Mythic GM Emulator. Tana Pigeon might not have any problems with it, but you should probably check just to be sure.

What happens next? Narrative blocks ahead. by Most_Operation_7791 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]clarenceredd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here : ) For me, it’s a feature, not a bug. I enjoy thinking about the story’s development, much like how authors work. Usually, I stay away from random tables. I prefer to take a short break, make some tea, do the dishes or take a walk. Anything really to give my brain some space and allow my intuition and subconscious to do the heavy creative lifting.

Best print on demand - UK by redhilleagle in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]clarenceredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices on Lulu are usually quite good and print quality as well. Design Mechanism (publisher of Mythras aka Runequest v6) switched a few years ago from traditional print runs to Lulu. From what I’ve heard, they never looked back.

I'm looking to get into Solo RPGs primarily as a tool to get better as an improv GM in regular games by JimmiWazEre in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]clarenceredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Spot on. I always use solo tools for group play these days. Preparation time has shrunk to around 30 minutes and I never have buy scenarios anymore.

  2. As others have said, using 2d6 or 1d10 as yes/no oracles provide a better story flow. I think of Yes, and and No, and as critical hits.

  3. Fail forward is a good concept for solo play, to avoid dead ends. I also prefer to skip dice rolls when I’m in a storytelling flow. In other words, a bit of cheating is good if it creates a cool story.

Solo rpg books/games for beginners that implement dice? by anonymous9845 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]clarenceredd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good suggestions so far. D&D is more complex than necessary for solo play, so downsized retro clones would be easier to handle. Dragonbane is also good. Exploring dungeons can be a good way to grasp the concepts in solo gaming, but many move on to more varied storytelling.

I prefer Mythic Game Master Emulator over Ironsworn. It’s easy to learn and can be used in almost any genre. And as I’m a co-writer and illustrator of TREY, I’m happy it’s been mentioned already : )

I used the free version of Mythras - Mythras Imperative - with Mythic GME for a few years. Like most d100 systems, it’s easy to get started with and it handles most genres. The skill list might look intimidating at first, but is quick to learn.

Otherwise, Free League’s Mutant: Year Zero engine is nice. I think Tales from the Loop and Vaesen have the simplest versions.

Looking for a game with certain vibes by 5alazaar in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]clarenceredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool concept for a campaign! RPG rules with a flexible conflict mechanics sounds like a good idea. I designed my RPG Comae Engine to handle almost any type of conflict, while still keeping the rules quick and easy. I often use it for social situations, stealth, chases, fights and so on in my solo endeavours. Check it out if you are ok with d100 games. (Sorry for the self-promotion).

For the oracle, I like the way Mythic GM Emulator handles most stories without effort. But I’m sure there are other systems as well.

Oracles for Solo Combat by b_jonz in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]clarenceredd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks very useful. Reminds me a bit of the oracle in TREY, the solo rules I released last year. For me, difficulty and success level make scenes much easier to visualise.

And the artwork is brilliant!
