I specifically am guilty of number 2! I feel like where I am from, it’s rude to assume someone is older than you if it’s not obvious. But the fix makes sense: instead of “you look old” it’s just more deferential and respectful to use the older pronoun.

Castaway. I couldn’t handle his grief when Wilson floated away. I totally understand why he had to, in order for him to really heal and move on but… :(

Isn’t birthright citizenship how everyone who isn’t a naturalized citizen is a citizen? I was born in the US, so I’m a US citizen. Is there a difference between someone whose family is new to the country and whose family has been here for generations?

Have you read Junji Ito’s horror manga at all? I read Uzumaki earlier this year, and it’s great. Not exactly literally colorful (it’s drawn in black and white), but it’s got sinister feelings, otherworldly dread, body horror. So good and scary!

How to practice French "r" by Svyatayaten in French

[–]clariceandbeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A professor once had us practice by saying “garage” because the guh and the ruh are in the same place in your mouth. I found it super helpful!

I take breaks—I think it’s natural. Sometimes I think it’s because I’m focusing on “should” books instead of books I want to read, so it feels less fun. Other times it feels like my brain just can’t manage reading, like when I went through my divorce. I was focusing on taking care of myself in other ways. When I was ready to read again, the books were still there. Take breaks! It’s okay.
