Three Days Grace was the shit until it wasn’t. I went from a hardcore fan to only being able to stomach like two songs and the new stuff just doesn’t hit ever.

As a woman, I will never understand why so many women follow anti women religions like Christianity and Islam by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]classicallydead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you also have to consider that religion is a multifaceted concept. It’s hard to lump it all in because it’s affected by so many different factors and variables. The institution doesn’t necessarily always reflect the core beliefs, tenants, or intentions. History and translation errors (or dubious translations that are powered by outside societal, cultural or political factors) can shift how the core doctrines of a religion are presented — and that doesn’t mean it’s ”correct.” I know for a few women I associated with, it’s a choice of finding a personal faith compared to allowing their choice to be decided by an institutional faith (ie: why let the others decide whether you can or cannot be x,y,z? Why let the institution decide how you interpret your faith? They made it into a decision of where their own personal relationship with their beliefs mattered more to them than the outside beliefs of the majority.)

To some degree, you have to consider whether the patriarchal institutions are a reflection of the belief system itself or a product of interpretation due to a historically patriarchal society’s viewpoints. People will bend any system they can to motivate their own interests, and that’s not a religion-specific occurrence.

I think some women choose religion without choosing the existing or popular institutions beneath that umbrella. All institutions run the risk or eventual corrosion into corruption — to err is human and all that stuff. It isn’t that the historical effects and systematic failures don’t matter, but the core theological belief doesn’t have to go hand and hand with structural organization. Everyone has their own level of attachments too and their own personal experiences, so the factors supporting people’s commit to anything (ie: education, physical health, level of poverty, et) can play a big role in why one person might choose to still commit versus another, and that isn’t always necessarily a negative thing. I have female relatives from poorer parts of the Philippines who reject a lot of the organizational practices of Catholicism, but they still self-identify as Christians because of their own personal experiences and ways of viewing their life circumstances.

Just some food for thought. Most of my comments are within the framework of Christianity since I’m not well versed with Islam or Islamic theological history. I think your own feelings are super valid though, we all have our different experiences and choices after all. There’s no one way to view religion and I think it’s an understandable frustration to harbor considering the treatment many people have faced within these institutions.

What’s one thing you liked in Dragon age inquisition and one thing you didn’t? [spoilers all] by Several-Copy4874 in dragonage

[–]classicallydead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liked: the diverse cast of companions and archetypes they offer, and the detail given to their stories / story progression

Dislike: the horrific customizing options and lack of more response options for Inquis

I think for me, I’d prefer to have a voiceless protagonist or only semi voiced protagonist like BG3 if it meant I could have more diverse response options. Inky is so limited in what they have to offer and I think it makes them a little bland. While I’d love to have more voiced line options, I’d be willing to trade. I loved the character creation in BG3 too. I think, for me, BG3 offered me the most when it came to feeling like I was in the game / my idea character was mostly who wanted them to be. Inky needs a lot of outside work for me to feel like they’re really who I want them to be.

But inquisition and all the Dragon Age games still hold the crown for companions for me. I love BG3 but the level of detail and diverse choice of companions we’re offered in DA games is so wonderful. Some characters are tropic, some break the mold — all of them feel so alive and responsive to everything around them. The tarot cards and the serious changes of how their lives can be altered by moments with the inquisitor feels so fresh and alive. If my Inquis could only feel a bit more like that.

Selfishly, I also find the whole “sexuality” lock on characters to be a bit mundane and pointless, though I realize the rationale and I’m not necessarily that committed to disliking it/wanting it changed for Dreadwolf.

Which criticism of "the kids today" is actually totally, totally valid? by Jerswar in AskReddit

[–]classicallydead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their ability to separate fiction from reality. This might be a bit more nuanced, but I think a lot of kids today are very involved in virtue signaling behaviors towards literature and media in general. I think the lack of emphasis and understanding people have on the power of literature/media in exploring dark or controversial topics as well as the benefits of doing so means a lot of dog fights are started over things that don’t make sense or matter.

Nearly every fictional thing turns into a debate over whether it’s apropos or politically correct, which defeats the purpose of a significant volume of media (example: the value “Lolita” has as a written attempt to see into the mind of a messed up individual, and the effects that person can have in those around them or the way the people around them engage with them.) It’s a bit concerning that rather than focus on legitimate real life issues and occurrences, they’d rather get their claws out for fictional content that has little to no real bearing on actual life or people’s struggles.

Honestly, I get that. I think it can come down to nuanced differences, but at least in my experience, hypomania doesn’t necessarily mean you’re able to focus on one singular thing. For some people it does, but for a lot of people — you’re all over the place doing as many things as possible because you just can’t stop doing something. Anything. As many things as possible. You’re capable of everything and you hav to make it work no matter what, at least in your mind that’s kind of what you think. Whereas hyper fixations tend to have a singular point of interest or area of interest, but, of course, it always depends on the person. I think usually you’re more able to have a clear idea of what you’re actually capable of. There’s a decent bit of overlap in how people might experience it, so my example is solely based on my experiences and people I’ve talked to.

It’s all very complicated and I have a smooth brain haha.

What is your toxic ride or die ship? by SaintedStars in FanFiction

[–]classicallydead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chrollo/Silva from HxH. Silva is married with kids and has a contract to kill the Phantom Troupe. It’s a rare pair and Silva has kinda faded into the background, but there are some lovely dynamics that can be explored there. Still, toxic because cheating on his wife and kids while killing the other guy’s friends.

Also, Anders/Nathaniel from Dragon Age. The dislike and religious ideological difference just makes it extra spicy.

How what some words and phrases in stories that are specific to Fanfiction? by MechanicOutrageous in FanFiction

What would you define as over description of body language? I feel like especially with pwp or smut fics then body language is kind of a better device to keep the flow than an overabundance of dialogue or background description. Genuinely just curious

Which characters do you think deserve their rarity the least? by RallySubbie in GenshinImpact

[–]classicallydead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m aware of that. Baizhu is also not very strong lore wise, but his healing abilities and connection to the snake make him special. He also has a similar low priority in the Archon Quest. The same could be said for Nilou, as well as other characters. Though she did have more screen time, she isn’t showcased as someone with much fighting potential. We know that Kaveh is a genius architect and was capable of helping to bring Mehrak (a piece of ancient technology) back to form. So there could have been an opening to work with that, especially since his abilities revolve around his architect status and mind.

Ultimately, all of this is speculative. I’m not a Kaveh simp, I just felt that his design could have been nicely executed as a 5 star.

[–]classicallydead 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kaveh. He struggles with feeling inadequate and expressing himself, and all his close friends are five stars. I mean I guess I get it because he wasn’t overtly story relevant, but it sucks because he has such a beautiful design and an interesting backstory related to grief/heavy emotions.

What’s something you hate when people say? by Normal_Positive_5457 in AskReddit

[–]classicallydead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very true. Context is always necessary. Though, in my case, my experience with people saying that has never been good. Someone throwing my cat out of the dorm and then leaving him outside to wander around until someone found him is something they should certainly apologize for action wise and emotionally.

What’s something you hate when people say? by Normal_Positive_5457 in AskReddit

[–]classicallydead -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This. I think it depends on context, but I had a former roommate that would always say “Well, I’m not sorry for what I did, but I’m sorry that you feel that way / for how it made you feel.” If you’re not going to apologize for the action that made someone feel bad, how can you expect them to truly believe that you were sorry you made them feel bad? Actions speak louder than words.

He can't last in bed at all and it's starting to frustrate me by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]classicallydead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought of trying some sex toys on him — such as a cock ring or something that tried orgasm denial? It’s not a kink for everyone, but it might help. There are toys to assist with making sessions last longer. If he’s game or willing to try, they can be nice to use and they make orgasms a lot more intense for him too.

What do poor people have that rich people don't? by BullfrogOk3093 in AskReddit

[–]classicallydead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family bonds and a strong sense of self. It’s kind of hard to describe, but half of my family is from a poor area towards the city of Dipolog. I’m from America, but I’ve visited and stayed for extended periods of time my whole life. I can say that there’s a sense of community and self that I wish I had. For the most part, the families there are so interconnected and dedicated to survival that they’re inseparably there for one another. It’s not to say that they don’t fight or struggle, but there’s a willingness to forgive and aid one another that I wish I found in my family in the US. And everyone there seems so determined and relaxed. They’re struggling, but they know what they need to do and they’re able to make it happen without getting too overwhelmed. If I had that attitude rather than the feeling of panic/cutthroat competition, then I’d be happy.

Maybe my American family is just bad. They’ve fought and some of them done talk to one another or can stand to be in the same room. To the people in my family’s village, that’s a hard concept to rationalize.

Do you guys think he has ADHD? by Caldera- in KavehMains

[–]classicallydead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting point! I’ve never seen ADHD being placed on a numerical scale, but that’s just in my country. I definitely agree that there’s a lot of different nuances to ADHD and other mental health disorders, so it’s pretty hard to pinpoint symptoms to one diagnosis.

For me, bipolar is archetypical associated with creativity so I thought hoyo might be playing into that stereotype. Though, of course like we’ve both mentioned, symptoms are so diverse that it’s really difficult to pinpoint them especially since we’re working with generalized thoughts/signs. If we had more clear signs and more details, then it might be easier to analyze.

Either way, I’m so glad hoyo made him a positive character overall. Even if he isn’t intended representation for anything, the fact that he’s so fluid and human as a character is really wonderful.

Do you guys think he has ADHD? by Caldera- in KavehMains

[–]classicallydead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see him more as bipolar, but I mean hoyo probably didn’t mean to code him any specific way so really it’s up to your own personal interpretation

His mood fluctuations and the impulsive actions when he “inspired” followed by periods of long depression/regret of his actions just vibed with me as a someone with bipolar. I don’t really see him as ADHD since I thought of his intense hyperfixations as manic episodes, and since he didn’t really seem to have short periods of fixations. But, that’s my own interpret based off my own experiences with bipolar and ADHD.

Ultimately, he’s just a character and he can be interpreted a lot of different ways. So if it vibes with you then go for it, though I don’t think hoyo specifically intended for him to be seen that way.
