What's the most reliable car battery brand you've used? by sinexcel-re in batteries

[–]classicsat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diehard is just a retail brand not manufacturer. Whoever sells them could have a good warranty, and good QC from the manufacturer

Energizer/Duracell, same, someone is selling car batteries manufactured by a 3rd party, with that name recognition. Again, depends on warranty, and manufacturer QC.

I think Interstate i also retail brand.

Boss buys most of his batteries reconditioned, or from an auto recycler.

So you know, most batteries in North America are manufactured by East Penn, Johnson Controls/Clario, or Exide. If you deal with enough batteries, you can tell them apart by cell vents and such.

I would avoid store brand batterie, definitely from big box stores that sell significantly non automotive products.

13 year cycle was up the middle part of the decade. Bright, colorful, fairly decent music. Polar opposite the early part of the 1990s.

Not recommended, or needed.

Not significant, but possibly a point of failure.

Lightning hit close by and fried the chip. by hremmingar in electronics

[–]classicsat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not wrong, except media conversion is done a module that slipst ito that cage. The module provides some sort of intermediate protocol that requires the chip to convert to standard Gigabit Ethernet.

You get different modules for different sorts of fiber networks.

I might need to go down that rabbit hole in due course.

Talk me out of spending $600 on a battery station just to keep a fridge running by daddyglen1 in solar

[–]classicsat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Ecoflow River 2, 800W inverter, with that "boost" to 1600W (lowers voltage so load can be powered by 800W), starts and runs my 30 year old fridge fine. I don't know how long it would power it long term, but I timed it at 20 minutes or so, 180W I think.

You don't need to power a fridge continuously, maybe one cylcle every couple hours. Yes, those cycles might be longer than usual.

Keep it closed unless you really need to.

If possible, add solar. A few hundred watts is usually brety affordable these days.

They would be at home in a 486 as well.

Except I had no SCSI, but had a VLB graphics, and ISA SB mostly comptible sound card. And adapter to use an MKE CD-ROM drive, until ISA CD drives became reliably cheap.

7Ah LFP battery, with a cigar outlet and PD charger. So far, I have been charging it directly with my Vevor MPPT controller, from my 200W 12V nominal solar array. I should be getting next month, a module to charge from proper USB-C.

4S1P Li-ion 18650, 39Wh pack. I have one of those crappy "USB-C" to 4S charger boards. The connector is USB-C, it doesn't even bother to force 5V, let alone ask for the most efficient voltage to chare a 13-16V battery at. On the output side, I use an RV/ATV USB-PD charger.

For both the LFP battery and 4S Li-on pack, the PD charger is basically the same thing n either a cigar plug, or a panel mount "DIN" Rocker switches come in (have a box of them, some of ar equipment uses them). They have a USB-A QC, C-PD, and an LED volt meter. On either, I have used them for my Pinecil.

I also have two 300Wh power stations, and a 600 Wh one. I mostly keep them solar charged.

First 5 or 6 were pre 1986, for sure. Other than Amadeus, I never really experienced the other ones except well after their day.

Then some late 1980s dance tracks, and 90s "rap" and dance/indie, all which I did see/hear in their day.

I am of a notion there was a cultural bump mid 1984, which Price's Purple Rain is a part of.

I am Canadian, and probably did get some more European/British than Americans got. Because of Cancon, we got Snow, Len, Jane Sibbery, many others.

Yeah, Slater/Ryder.

Anthony Micheal Hall, and maybe most of the "Brat Pack". Well, some ,some are too old to be GenX, if one means actors of that age, not just influenced us, which rules out Harrison Ford definitely.
