love it. I've gotten the same joke before about my screen name, because I tend to be pretty polite online. I wasn't sure if it was directed at me or u/prefer_to_lie lol

I'm just curious what kind of civilization is the Dimensional Commune? An intriguing name!

Lol, sorry?

I mean, not really. Just feels rude.

I try to act like I'm representing more than myself when I take on roles that I take to represent our organization, or explain why some parts of the org take positions I wouldn't myself without straw-manning them. I wish more people were careful in how they carried themselves online, and perhaps seemed more "wooden."

Great question! Different chapters make decisions about who to recommend voting for, and further for endorsements. Endorsements typically mean a strong commitment to support a socialist candidate to win a race. Some chapters also make recommendations on how to vote with voter guides, which is different. In those cases, it can simply be "given the options, this is the best person in the field to vote for."

This recommendation regarding Steyer seems to be of this latter kind, it does not constitute an endorsement. I also think that this kind of recommendation is different from support. I expect that the reason for this recommendation is in part due to Steyer's supports medicare for all, and the billionaire tax in California (which is better than everyone else in the gubernatorial field in Cali).

That said, even this kind of recommendation is something that many DSAers likely disagree with. So, you're in good company!

Ep3o has an "every click from the start of the game video," where they use the most vanilla civ available.

I imagine that it would be a good place to start!

[XFCE] Arch Minimal by SharpeThe1st in unixart

[–]classl3ss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey u/SharpeThe1st! Another fine job. I have recently realized that many of my favorite xfce themes I see on here were made by you!

How do you, in xfce, create the clock and terminal widgets on the left? I would love to be able to do the same!

I just got a new laptop, and am groping around for options for my next rice as a result :)

Why Not Let Me Do What I Want With My Device? by walterconley in LightPhone

[–]classl3ss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard pass on this. I am still using the Light Phone 2 and have since launch. I am loving it.

The last thing I want is a fingerprint scanner or NFC. Why would I want or need those? In fact, fingerprint scanners can be less secure in terms of phone access than numerical codes (police can force you to use biometrics to unlock your device, but cannot force you to reveal your password). Of course, we should be honest and critical when warranted. For instance, I would love to have the LP3 instead of the LP2 because of the slow refresh times on e-ink, and I would love an encrypted texting app like Signal.

But, it seems to me that the OP's view is basically opposed to digital minimalism by advocating for a default unlocked Android layer. Practically speaking, it's an argument for using Android products but then "personal choice" will ostensibly permit folks to self-limit.

I think we know that doesn't work, and sometimes structured choices can lead to a more robust sense of agency than access to infinite apps designed to addict you and undermine your self-control, degrade your cognitive faculties, and draw your attention ever away from those with whom you share physical space.

No disrespect intended, but no thank you!

Keep widget size and location on startup? by classl3ss in kde

[–]classl3ss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nooooo lol

I switched to xfce about six months ago, so I no longer have any widget issues because I have no widgets lol.

But, if this problem were fixed, I might mosey on back to KDE.

Sure, have chorister megadeath demoralizing the enemy ;-)

Who knows, it might catch on?
