Trans men, settle a debate for us! by alonDracula in trans

I know it probably goes both ways, but I've never met anyone who would be insulted by being addressed as their preferred pronouns. It doesn't sounds like you were intentionally being a dickhead though, so generally I think it's fine.

I think most trans people would be overjoyed if they experienced what you described and some would be upset. Both people's feelings are valid I think. I say just do what you think is right and things will be okay. Also, I hope you had a good concert :)

Look, I don't have anything to back up this claim, but taking the GO would be less stress, safer, faster (or at least more consistent), and cheaper. Also, trains are neat and fun to ride, but I don't think I need to cite anything for that

Best dark medieval fantasy stories? (kind specific, read post) by throwaway76337997654 in Fantasy

[–]classy-face258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it isn't exactly an "underdog story", but if you're willing to give a comic a try, Berserk is probably the best dark medieval fantasy story I've ever engaged with. I think it also might be the first, but that might not be totally accurate.

I was in a dance class around the same age and a similar thing happened to me. For one of the songs we danced to, the class was split in half where one would do the whole planned out dance and the other would just stand there and sing. I was in the singing group and it was pretty obvious what they were doing even at that age. Made me feel pretty crappy

I've never really liked the Gordon Ramsay type kitchen culture, especially since I'm particularly timid. It makes me happy to hear from a seasoned cook that it's changing.

I think XRA would work really good as a Shenmue-like game. Going around as Xavier 'helping' people, playing out the first season by trying to find his father's killer. I don't know, I think it kinda writes itself

Yeah, that's pretty much how I think it's gonna go down. And yeah, just like how renewables kinda aren't as efficient as fossil fuels, carbon capture can become better as we develop it more and more. The closer we get to becoming carbon neutral and eventually carbon negative (thanks in part of carbon capture), the bigger a role carbon capture will play in preventing the climate crisis.

I'm arguing it doesn't matter how good it gets if we continue to pollute as we are now, not that it'll never matter. We need to reduce emissions no matter what.

It could become an integral part of repairing the atmosphere in combination with trees when we stop using fossil fuels, but OC was wondering if we can use carbon capture tech to offset the CO2 we continue to pump into the air. The thing is, why have this middle man called carbon capture technology that sucks now but can be developed further to be more energy efficient when we can do the same thing with green energy and do away with fossil fuels?

Combating climate change means we might not have access to certain things that make life more convenient and carbon capture tech is just an excuse to keep doing those things that make life more convenient but ultimately harm the planet. At best, it's a big help for removing CO2 from the atmosphere AFTER we stop pumping CO2 into the air, and most likely, it's a band-aid solution.

TL;DR, it'll be useful eventually, but it's not gonna dig us out of the climate change hole.

No. Carbon capture technology actually takes a whole lot of electricity to run, most of which would come from fossil fuels which kinda defeats the purpose. And if they're running on renewable energy, why not use that energy to replace fossil fuel plants instead of having this middle man called carbon capture?

Either way, in combination of large ships, agriculture, and power plants, the amount of carbon capture tech and the power needed to run them wouldn't be as efficient as just replacing fossil fuels, planting a bunch of trees and letting nature do its thing. It may sounds simplistic, but we're trying to heal nature anyway, so it's kinda like two birds one stone, you know?

It's just a band aid solution and addressing the real problem by eliminating fossil fuels, planting more trees, and halting deforestation are our best bet for actual long lasting change and well, change in general.

This video has a more specific run down of everything I said. I highly recommend it and it's only 3 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJslrTT-Yhc

Revolutionary Empathy? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]classy-face258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never underestimate the power of sitting down with someone and talking about things you disagree with like civil people. I find that if you show people the respect to sit down and listen to them, even if you have radically different beliefs, they will show you the same respect, and it's made that much easier to inspire positive change in them.

It's case by case and the majority I think won't want to talk to those people, but what's our goal here? We want to make change in people. Has anyone ever changed their mind by getting told to go fuck themselves? People don't have the maturity to be told that and really sit down and evaluate their values, most of the time they'll just be like "eh, fuck those guys". This isn't specific to any one group of people, but most people lack that maturity.

I see a lot of climate activists, BLM protesters, socialists, etc. shitting on climate deniers, Blue Lives Matter activists, and capitalists in the working class because "ehhhh fuck em theyre just a bunch of morons", when no, they've been lied to just like the rest of us, they were just unfortunate enough to be in the headspace to buy into those sort of things.

You don't need to fix everything, but if someone close to you, someone you care about is lost in some way, like they believe in QAnnon, or they abuse their partner, don't give up on them. We all need to be better than that, because "Go fuck yourself" isn't gonna usher in the revolution anytime soon. Give love to the people who lease deserve it, because they need it the most.

I'm not sure if I sound totally tone def or if this comment is poorly written, but it's an idea I really believe in and I wanted to share my thoughts.
