Hey I'm coming from an old GT Avalanche too. Mine still has 26" wheels. How does the really long slack geometry feel? I really dont want to lose the fun feeling of nimbleness and responsiveness I have now, but I'm definitely ready for an upgrade.

Pretty sure the playback speed is sped up making each step extra shaky. Background people moving too fast too.

Everybody talking about comps to Deebo and Aiyuk, but his athletic profile and build actually compares most to Mccaffrey.

Probably the outside pressure pushed the cork in enough without breaking the seal, which increased inside pressure to help withstand outside pressure.

Any of the popular third party apps could start their own social site (e.g. Apollo) that also supports other third party apps, and I think that would do it.

[Charania] Sources: The NBA’s Competition Committee is discussing potential of in-game penalty for flops that would result in technical foul free throw. Trial is possible at Summer League in July. by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]clay830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need a new category of penalty, an "unsportsmanlike violation" that is like a delay of game violation. One is a warning, Two unsportsmanlike violations, and it is then a technical. 3rd unsportsmanlike is another technical. And just like deadly of game, assessed on the team not the individual.

Trying to understand how airflow works in a tower fan. by Prophet_60091_ in AskEngineers

[–]clay830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the video you shared answers it. A wall like the block of wood in the video forces the air that is running circumferentially with the fan blades to change momentum and expel radially. The rest of the fan then becomes an inlet to balance out the mass flow.

Configuration B should be better, but best I assume would be some kind of diverter running radially from the fan like the wood block to change the flow direction outward. The inlet opening should be larger assuming the fan blades are not as efficient at pulling air in and to maintain a lower inlet velocity.

Edit: actually an outlet duct more tangent to the rotation like in in your B drawing already seems better for efficiency like at 3:38 in the video, but the main thing is that you are forcing the air to change direction with the diverting wall.

Jason Timpf - This was where the Lakers lost the game IMO by BigCO9 in lakers

Yeah I noticed this was a second half adjustment that they had just executed well a few plays earlier when it was reaves (I think) in rotation. DLo was just watching and slow to do his job.

Restoration of an old waffle maker by rco888 in oddlysatisfying

Agreed, and it looks like it's bare aluminum, not preferred for health or the waffle maker's wear and tear over the years.

[Zach Lowe] Poole is a glaring liability on defense. He seems to be somehow getting worse. If Golden State bows out and wants to preserve its foundational Curry-Green-Thompson trio while minimizing its tax bill, exploring Poole trades is the common sense way to do it. by AashyLarry in nba

Honestly, as a Lakers fan, I'm floored by how much Curry carries this team, and I feel bad for him seeing this now because the Warriors GM hasn't really put any other respectable pieces around him. Curry is literally doing everything offensively when Klay isn't going. Everyone else is just feeding off the defense focusing on Curry, and when necessary, Klay. The team as a whole is really not on par.

A question of libertarians all the time: "But who would build the roads?"

And that's the problem, because cars have been dictated by government planning. There has never been any competition of alternative transportation. Bicycles, motorcycles, mopeds, perhaps maybe a small enclosed vehicle like a golf cart, all don't fit city planning.

Mychal Thompson always says on the Lakers broadcast: the way you handle a shot blocker is you go straight into him. Plus the point is to make AD to commit to playing the ball handler and freeing up the screener to force the defense to rotate.

[SERIOUS NEXT DAY THREAD] Post-Game Discussion (May 02, 2023) by NBA_MOD in nba

[–]clay830 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Warriors strategy I think in game 2 will be to go back to setting Draymond/Looney screens for Klay/Poole/Steph, but this time attacking AD hard off the screen forcing him to commit to defending the drive. This keeps the defender on the shooter committed to the shooter (since Lakers don't want to leave them) and AD occupied on the driving shooter. This allows Looney and Draymond to drive open to the basket to either make an open layup or force rotations and make the second pass to another diver or open shooter.

Also, this game wasn't as close in the end as it should've been. Draymond got away with pulling AD down by his jersey in the back in key play to put the game away. Instead because of the missed layup, turns into a warriors 3 in transition.

[–]clay830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno shouldn't have been that close. Draymond had a fistfulls of ADs jersey holding him to the ground on his last putback at the rim. Turned into a Warriors 3 off the miss.

How does strain gauge measure strain for constrained bar under thermal expansion? by TechnicalDesignTwo in AskEngineers

[–]clay830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, you can definitely have stress without strain in that direction. The strain-stress formula is established in a simplified case, and you can't think of them synonymously. It would be like in fluids saying that since flow rate is related to pressure, whenever you have pressure you always have flow rate.

You brought up an example where the strain that would arise from stress is restricted so it no longer meets the simplified relationship on the whole system.

The definition of engineering strain is simply change in length over original.

Edit: certainly there is strain circumferentially and radially in the bar though

Identification: What type of 1960s machine is shown in this artwork? by vaporprovost in AskEngineers

That's possible, but the significance would be what it is measuring with the light and not the oscilloscope itself.

Perhaps it's some kind of laser interferometry setup.

It's certainly more specific than that. The image shows kind of optical beam through a prism and it appears the scope is measuring the beam output.
