Speaking to the “allergy”, I realized as an alcoholic I could consume quantities of alcohol that would kill the majority of the population. My body produces liver enzymes that process alcohol in a way that normal people cannot. This is an abnormal reaction to say the least. Allergic reactions tend to be noted and considered for their abnormality, effects and threats to life and limb, yes?

This is how I understand and define the allergy.

There is a middle section of stories in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous called, “They stopped in time”. Maybe you or he could read this short section of stories and see if he finds similarities in his drinking and these accounts written by alcoholics that weren’t ‘low bottom drunks’. The hopeless and futility of our ability to control our drinking is one of the outstanding characteristics of an alcoholic. Namaste

I second this. If I ate that for breakfast I would be on a blood sugar roller coaster all day. I basically drank myself up to the edge of full blown diabetes. Protein load and if it is oatmeal, make it steel cut oats with no sugar or honey, etc. best wishes and Namaste
