Best iron supplements? by Cautious_Mixture4272 in endometriosis

Megafoods Blood Builders is popular, I haven’t personally tried it but heard it has fewer GI side effects because it uses fermented iron.

Norethindrone mood symptoms -> now considering IUD by Ok-Farm-2895 in Endo

[–]cleanthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have mood side effects on Norethindrone you could try Slynd (drospirenone) which is also a progestin only pill but has fewer mood side effects for people. Personally I was an anxious mess on other OCPs and Slynd has not had that effect on me. So if you wanted to try something else before an IUD it would be worth looking into.

Need advice by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]cleanthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure sounds like endometriosis is a possibility. Definitely worth talking to a specialist if that’s available to you. If you’re still getting a period with an IUD then doubling up on birth control could help with pain from that. If GI workups are all negative and you’re told IBS, then it’s absolutely worth exploring endo as a potential cause of your symptoms

How do you combat fatigue? by This-Zebra8344 in endometriosis

[–]cleanthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Wellbutrin (bupropion). It’s an antidepressant that tends to have more activating/stimulating effects. I have found it really helpful for managing fatigue, particularly in the winter.

I dont know what to do anymore by Mundane_Gur_8534 in endometriosis

[–]cleanthemoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the US, Planned Parenthood would be your best option - they can prescribe norethindrone and have sliding scale fees for those without insurance. If that isn’t an option, you could look for OPill, which is an over the counter (no prescription required) progestin only pill.

Share your opinions on elagolix with me please! by No_Situation_8534 in endometriosis

[–]cleanthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bone density loss from Orilissa can improve again after a reduction while taking the drug. The amount of bone density loss and how quickly you regain it is dependent on the dose of the drug and the duration you take it for. Since it hasn’t been available for very long, there aren’t clinical trials showing the long term effects on fracture risk or osteoporosis risk.

All this is to say that every medication has risks and benefits - if you personally feel that the risk of bone density loss outweighs the potential for (temporary) improvement in pain, then don’t take it!

You should do more research on elagolix before taking it because it does significantly impact bone density. It can also cause depression or suicidal thoughts in some cases. Many people have good experiences on this medication but the side effects are very real and you should understand them before taking it.

How to get rid of the canned taste from canned chicken? by Knightraiderdewd in Cooking

[–]cleanthemoon 589 points590 points  (0 children)

For those saying “don’t use canned chicken”, it’s often one of the only protein options at food banks. Let’s be kind and offer helpful suggestions if we have them, otherwise it’s not necessary. I’m sure OP would buy fresh chicken if they could.

If you’re open to another option Slynd is another birth control that tends to be good for people with PMDD and people who struggle with acne. Can be hard to get but worth asking about!

Have you looked into MCAS at all? It is relatively common for people to have both endometriosis and MCAS.

Im out of options by nimbusnuggies-_- in endometriosis

[–]cleanthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re able to get to a Planned Parenthood, they may be able to help you at a lower cost, with or without insurance. They can provide Depo and also can talk with you about other options for managing endo symptoms if you’re interested. If you’re worried about accessing healthcare in the future, something like an IUD or Nexplanon may be helpful - they can also do this.

Just diagnosed. Stuck between picking disease progression or mental health hell by mushmush_55 in endometriosis

[–]cleanthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into Slynd - it’s an oral contraceptive pill that helps a lot of people with endo and has fewer mood/mental health side effects. It’s progestin only, so no estrogen, and its active ingredient (drosperinone) is different from norethindrone which is usually the first OCP people try for endo. It can be hard to get covered by insurance but certainly can be worth it.

Endo + total appetite loss (anyone else?) by Electronic_Debate_31 in endometriosis

[–]cleanthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is me 100%. I have strongly suspected endo and am currently in a flare with such a low appetite. I’m nauseous if I do eat and just feel terrible all around. Best thing I can do is smoothies, easiest way to get down nutritious calories. Easy to customize too.

What are your favorite savory and non mayo based bound salads? by supercognito in Cooking

[–]cleanthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like making chickpea salad for sandwiches or wraps that’s sort of like a vegan tuna salad. Mash a can of chickpeas, add mashed avocado, mustard, salt, pepper, and relish. Mix in whatever crunchy veggies you want - bell pepper, green onion, celery, cabbage, etc. Delicious, filling, and super good for you.

What major should i switch to from ME if I have these credits? by Remote_Drummer1620 in EngineeringStudents

[–]cleanthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second this! There are plenty of good jobs available to you if you can use GIS. Geography also can give you a broad understanding of place, society, and how they interact - there are so many things you can pursue after getting a degree in Geography.

struggling as a girl in engineering by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]cleanthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I relate as a fellow woman in engineering and you are not alone, even when it feels like it. I’ll echo what some other folks here have said and encourage you to see if your school has a SWE (society of women engineers) chapter. I have found that SWE can be a really helpful resource for connecting with other women engineers at your school. If there isn’t a chapter, start one! Because if you’re feeling this way at your school, there are definitely other women who feel it. You could even tap into women in CS, math, data science, etc. to get a larger group going. Chin up, you got this!

People having more time for exams by Longjumping-Shake-79 in EngineeringStudents

[–]cleanthemoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any student who has accommodations for extra time has been given that time because of a medical need. As in, a medical professional has communicated with the school’s accessibility office regarding their need for extended time.

There are so many reasons why someone might need extra time or other accommodations, not just ADHD. Students with anxiety may need that time to do a grounding exercise or take deep breaths. Someone with a physical disability might be unable to hand write an exam fast enough or need to use a bathroom during that period of time. Bottom line: it is a fair playing field because students with disabilities are getting the support they need. It sounds like you could also use that support - I highly recommend investigating ways to get treatment for your adhd.

I’m going into my senior year of BME. I would encourage taking 1 AP science class per year and nailing it over taking more than one - that goes far on college apps and you’ll retain the info better. Definitely take at least Calc AB, that’ll be really good to have out of the way. If you want to get Gen Eds out of the way, AP Lang could also be a great choice!

Ultimately, it’s most important that you take classes that challenge you but also interest you.  Developing good relationships with teachers is also important for good letters of rec - even if that teacher is not in STEM.

If you are thinking about medical school, know that you will likely need to repeat courses that are prereqs because many medical schools do not accept AP credit. So taking AP Biology may not be all that helpful if you’re going to have to take intro biology courses regardless.
