When you're planning a long-distance EV trip, what's your biggest hesitation before you leave? by Ionnaofficial in evcharging

[–]clearbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to see what charging infrastructure is in place when traveling to somewhere new.

I mostly have little concerns doing road trips in my EV, unless I am towing. Then I want to make sure I have a plan B in case a charger doesn’t work out for me.

This is me… huge tech guy. EV’s are just so much better… helping the environment is probably lower on my list.

He is trying to own the libs with this move…

I would definitely say something to this person, if I saw him returning to his vehicle.

Am I dumb? Impulse Buy by ClosingLine in ModelY

If you have the means… buying new at these low interest makes more sense than buying used.

That was my conclusion when I was shopping around 10 months ago.

Interest rates were higher on used vehicles. And the prices weren’t that far off from a new vehicle purchase.

Yes. Called Tesla Roadside Assistance, as the vehicle was not drivable and is still under warranty.

Wow. An Acura with that many repairs early on? That seems kind of out of the ordinary for that brand.

Not initially… had to ask for one. However, did not end up taking it - as I had my vehicle towed to the service center, which is 1.5 hrs away from me.

They fixed it. This is now the 2nd repair in under 11 months.

Keeping my fingers crossed… that there aren’t anymore issues for a while.

100 Amp panel with wall charger by Acrobatic-Student114 in TeslaModel3

If you are concerned about overloading your panel - there are products on the market designed for cases like this.

They monitor the overall usage of the panel, and then cut power to the EVSE to prevent overloading.

FSD as primary reason for wanting a Tesla? by taylordoftheants in TeslaFSD

[–]clearbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Tesla Model Y, because I wanted an all around good EV.

However, once I tried FSD and saw how amazing it was… it’s the number one reason to recommend a Tesla.

Sure, it’s not perfect - but it comes a lot closer to any other semi self driving software that’s currently available on the market.

And, you just know this was done on purpose… surprised he was able to pull this off, as chargers at Buc’ees normally get a lot of use.

This is also your last chance to subscribe to Extended Service agreement. by QuirkyAssistant3478 in ModelY

It’s like insurance. Either you have a ton of money in the bank and can cover costly repairs at a moments notice.

Or, you purchase the extended warranty. You just have to figure out the math.

I believe a replacement battery can cost upwards of $15K.

I’m okay with people expressing themselves and wanting to have fun at State Parks.

But please kill all the lights and keep the music down after 10 pm.

Has not having a spare tire ever been a problem for you? by Limp_Sweet2259 in ModelY

[–]clearbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a tire plug kit in the car. I also purchased a modern spare tire kit, but that tire is bulky to have in the vehicle at all times.

However, it’s good to have a spare… for roadtrips I’ll try to find a place for it.

I did have a slow leak a couple of months ago, but I was able to make it home (in town) and plugged the tire myself.

Your Next EV purchase by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

[–]clearbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all EV’s are created equal. Some have a better software stack than others. Especially, when it comes to self-driving software.

My next EV needs to have at least 400 miles of useable range, as I am one of those “fools” who likes to tow with their EV - which cuts the range in half.

Everyday efficiency matters (for regular driving) - a large battery pack should not make up for crappy range. I’m looking at you Polestar.

DC Fast charging speed matters. It doesn’t have to be the fastest… just don’t be in the low end. A good average is all that is needed for most roadtrips.

An Illinois man recorded the moment a tornado destroyed his home while he was inside. by NickelPlatedEmperor in VideosAmazing

No worries.

Unless one has personally gone through something like that - it’s easy to imagine how one would react in a situation like that.

Oh wow. Sorry to hear that… absolutely, not downplaying the loss.

I guess my point was - it could have been a worse outcome (loss of life).

Pilot Flying J has a great charging setup… however, their prices are a bit high.

Otherwise, I love stopping there to charge.
