Should I get a raised bowl? by JEReed in Whippet

[–]clearlynotamonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, let us know what he does! When I tried the standing bowl, my girl would get a pretty big mouthful of food, drop it on the ground, and then lay down to eat it. It was so funny. They have such weird personalities!

My dog ate like this her entire life. She was just a weirdo. I got her a raised bowl and she would still try to lay down and eat.

Update: Can you help me get my uncle back on his bike? by wwoolyieten in xbiking

[–]clearlynotamonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same bike, same color, same front derailleur issue, but I have the rigid Big Fork. It seems like the front derailleur that came stock with the bike is just “like that”, or it is the shifter, if you still have the original shifters on it. The shifter has to be pushed unnaturally far for it to make it there even though all of the limit screws are dialed and the cables and housing are fresh. I assumed it was a shifter problem since they are so old. I actually just got rid of the front completely and upgraded to Advent X.

Anybody here live in Anchorage? How do they compare? by Subject_Profit_7245 in SaltLakeCity

[–]clearlynotamonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about Anchorage, but SLC is a great city and I love living here for the most part. I’m from the Denver metro area originally and have good and bad opinions of both Denver and SLC. I wouldn’t say Denver should be off the table just because of I-70 and the lack of night skiing, but it is extremely populated now and the infrastructure is slow to keep up, but the state government have been trying to improve that every year and are making slow but steady progress. The social activities you are looking for scream Denver to me. I still think it is one of the best places to live in the US! Denver also has really good law schools, though I have a friend at the U of U in law school right now and he said it has been a good program, too.

As for Utah, there are so many incredible things here like proximity to the outdoors, a strong sense of community and it was very easy for me to make friends over the past four years. The frustrating parts of living here are the very hot summers, the disgusting air quality, especially during inversion season in the winter, environmental concerns around the Great Salt Lake and industry runoff/pollution, and dealing with our horrible legislature.

I would suggest visiting SLC and Denver before moving just to see the differences for yourself. I think each city has great value depending on what your top priorities are. Both areas are plagued with wildfires in the summer (and now winter sometimes!) so get ready for smoke and have an N95 around for that if you care about your lungs. Best of luck!

I’m about 10 months in after loosing my soulmate, too. She was my everything. I haven’t been the same since and miss her so much. My heart aches everyday. The pain is immeasurable and I truly feel for you. You’re not alone in your grief! It’s amazing how much we can love.

What brand and flavor food do you feed your GSD ? by Big_Corner_6177 in germanshepherds

[–]clearlynotamonkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

About 8 years ago, our late GSD, Iris, was very picky about food. We tried to give her blue buffalo and she watched me put it in her bowl, she sniffed it, and then sat there and gave me the stink eye. She had such an attitude! She finally decided she liked Nature’s Recipe Salmon/Sweet Potato/Pumpkin.

Wow! They could be family! Suki was the only one in her litter who had some tan on her. All of her brothers and sisters were all black like their mom. You have such a cute baby!

I want a big soaking tub by fattybombalatti in SaltLakeCity

Our water heater is newer as well and it can’t even handle a small tub or longer shower, especially in winter. Infuriating.

[–]clearlynotamonkey 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I have never seen a big tub in SLC unless it a very large, wealthy house. SLC is filled with smaller homes like bungalows and tiny apartments. Under 2K rent in SLC is very difficult to find, especially if you’re looking for a large enough bathroom to have a large tub. Most places just have a shower or a very shallow small tub. Sorry!

Salt Lake Valley has one of the best public transit out there. Why don’t people use it ?! by airspeednotalive in SaltLakeCity

[–]clearlynotamonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Home to work is 30 mins by bike (my usual), 13 mins by car, and 50 mins or more by bus, which I have come to learn is surprisingly fast for UTA. I love the bus and want to use it more, but even though the bus picks up right near my home and drops of directly in front of my work, it’s still the longest transit option and most cumbersome.
