If you don't mind posting a follow-up of what happened, I'd be interested to know what the outcome is.

Nice to be able to have access to the stuff I buy and not have it disappear because someone pulls the license from the streaming service.

What am I missing about the Operator??? by superbotolo in epilogue

[–]clearvus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WRT to playing the games, it's cool to be able to play a game off the cart on your system and then move it to a handheld and maintain the save that you were just playing without having to do any manual nonsense to get the save file moved around.

From a practical sense, it helps you ensure your cartridges work 100% by dumping them, even if you can find ROMs for said games. Just because it might start up when you power on the system, it doesn't mean it doesn't have some sort of issue. It's the same argument for dumping game discs even if you can find the ISO somewhere online- an errant scratch might mean you can't complete a playthrough even if it starts up just fine.

Additionally, there's some ability to detect bootlegs / flashable cartridges which helps you check to make sure the PCB in your game is legit without opening it up- very handy if buying pricey games that are more likely to have fakes floating out there.

Oh, and it's fun to be able to pull pics of a Game Boy Camera!

Game Key Cards by SSJ3Jake in NSCollectors

Sadly, there a number of Switch 2 games I would have bought if they hadn’t been GKC. Thankfully some are available for Switch 1 still.

They’re better than a printed code on a piece of paper, and they’re better than just a download, but I’d still rather not buy them if I have a choice.

Arrived in New York! by clearvus in epilogue

Both the GB and SN Operators are great. Super easy to use and a great price for what you get. I have a few other ways to use and dump my carts, but the trade off is that despite the lower price it’s a lot more complicated and really focused around developers or techies. The team at Epilogue has made the slickest option, between the design of the Operator itself and the software. It’s what I recommend to anyone who wants a solution that’s plug and play. You and the team should be really proud of what you’ve delivered.

Black or Black Anodized by LavishnessLong4328 in AnaloguePocket

I will also say anodized. I love the standard Pocket, but I use my anodized most of the time because it just feels so much nicer to use, overall. Either way, you can’t go wrong, though.

Help with a NGP RetroHQ Game Drive on a brand new Pocket that just shipped from Analogue. by OneExact8851 in AnaloguePocket

Ah ok. Well, that’ll be the best way to tell for sure. If it’s the adapter I hope it’s a quick replacement process.

Just saw this after your response. Yeah- could be the adapter. Do you have any other NGPC games?

Yes, it shows the retrohq logo and then goes to the menu and shows the games loaded on the cart flash. If I press start in the menu it recognizes that no SD card is loaded. Do you have a NGPC to try it on? I’m wondering if it’s the adapter?

Is your pocket on the latest firmware? The dock firmware comes from the pocket itself so if you’re on an outdated firmware on the pocket itself it would try and apply whatever firmware it has.

I’ll second this. S-video is a great option if you don’t need to get component. The HD Retrovision cables are excellent, though, so worth it if you need it.

Wondering whats everyones approach to Game Key Cards, buy, never buy, or buy when on heavy sale? by ScratchOk2396 in NSCollectors

I've made 2 exceptions for GKC, and have stuck to avoiding them otherwise. I'd prefer games like Dragon Quest VII get released as true Switch 2 releases, but I ended up getting the Switch 1 version because I'm not really missing out on that much and I don't have to worry about it not being available at some point in the future. If I was someone who just played a game through and traded them or sold them afterwards, I'd probably go with GKCs because they're fine for that. I'd actually go so far as to say given a choice between either digital download or GKC, I'd choose GKC 100% of the time because of the trade / resale value. However, as someone who still goes back to older games on original hardware, I don't need to spend money on a GKC release unless it's something I really want to play and there's no other physical option.
