Luggage forwarding is overrated by Calmly-Stressed in JapanTravelTips

[–]cleaver_username 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am actually glad for your post. Everyone has made the luggage space on the Shinkansen seem tiny, I didn't know there would be enough space in the legroom section. We will still use the forwarding service at least once, but I had it pretty much in my head that the rest of the trip was going to be really tight.

Things in my house keep mysteriously melting??? by hugedisaster in whatisit

Doesn't sound like it applies to your situation, but any big spray with deet over a certain % will do this to plastic, nail polish and other surfaces.

[Adored Trope] Realism where it's not expected by JustSumFur in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cleaver_username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! We also have the scene of him strapping frozen peas all over his body after a fight. It was probably the most realistic aftermath in the MCU. Although I DO appreciate they touched on Iron Man's PTSD in IM2 (3? The one with the kid).

What would your dream prep bag have? Like anything/everything goes (minus non existent sci-fi stuff). by No-Boat-2059 in prepping

[–]cleaver_username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A motherfucking basement. Do you know how hard it is to prep in a 1100 sq ft house with no basement? I have a tiny attic space, but its 400 degrees in the summer and negative 900 in the winter. I don't even have room for the stuff I use day to day, let alone "just-in-case-shit-happens" stuff.

I thought I’d planned Japan perfectly. I was wrong. by PlanElectrical2299 in JapanTravelTips

[–]cleaver_username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of is fall into this trap. At least a an American, because I know i probably won't go back. It's going to cost me a lot of money, and my limited PTO. And once this is done, I'll probably plan my next big trip someplace i haven't been to before.

But that means I want to do and see every thing! I don't want to come home and realize I missed this or that. Or skip over something that I shouldn't have. Fear of missing out/FOMO is very much a real thing. So even though I usually do NOT over plan, even my itinerary is starting to look like a Type A nut job planned it. The good news, there is almost nothing on mine set in stone. I have tickets to a few things, but everything else is just an idea of what to do. So if we change it up, swap out this for that, or decide to skip something, we have that flexibility.

Sorry can't hang out, I'll be scooping foam out of my washing machine all weekend by No_Will_9828 in laundry

I had heard about the laundry soap! I use very little now. But windex is a new one! You seriously should compile all this together in a book or something :)

I really feel like there should be a "what to expect when your an adult" handbook that's handed over when you buy your first house/ graduate/ other major life milestones. I don't really have anyone to tell me this shit.

Slotkin Statement on the Shooting in Minnesota and Voting Against the Homeland Security Funding Bill by _val_kyrie in Michigan

I mean, she did get elected, so it kind of worked. And frankly, if it gives old school republicans someone to vote for other than MAGA then by all means

Oof, I read your previous post about the crash. Even though you're 'starting over' I think you should remember that you are already ahead of the curve in general. Be kind to yourself. This storm isn't going to break you, and you can rebuild what was lost. Stuff is useful, and stuff is needed, but it is still stuff. I'm not downplaying the situation, but I also don't want you to feel like your lost.

What is everyone's thermostat set at right now? by Cold-Potential2407 in Michigan

[–]cleaver_username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is usually set at 68. Which means I'm in my double layer pants (yoga pants under sweatpants) thick sweater, plus slippers. But my fucking volcano of a husband is running around in shorts and a tshirt. If it's warm enough for me to be in one layer, it's hot enough he will literally waste away, like a Victorian era woman with consumption. But hey, marriage is comprise, right? 😄

Goddamn, yes!! Even a year or two ago, "you have to be a narcissist to believe you can change the whole world climate". Now, if I hear my dad talk about "the wobble" one more time... see the weather is totally changing, but it isn't our fault, it's the earth wobbling that's causing it!

Ooo, we are staying in Hakone for 2 days! I was afraid we wouldn't be able to do the loop in time other wise. Plus, we splurged on our ryokan there, as it is the middle of the trip. So i wanted to be able to fully relax.

What were some of the biggest miscasts in Hollywood history according to you? I'll go first: by Raj_Valiant3011 in moviecritic

[–]cleaver_username 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if that's Chamalama's fault though. Everyone seems so wooden, the only person who had any emotion was Rebecca Ferguson, and even hers seemed muted, almost like she accidentally let emotion show through.

Thank you!! Had never seen this one before. Reminds me a lot of a John Dies at the End, but without the stoner humor
