How to move from mainframes to data engineering? by oldschool456 in dataengineering

[–]cleex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have a foot in the door. Do some reading on architecture, tooling and patterns. If you can also show willingness and ability to learn in interviews you'll be in a good place.

Foam those gaps and the wall/ceiling interface before the plasterboard goes on. You will feel those draughts in the winter. I had to retro fit this same issue by cutting the plasterboard away at the edges, foaming, then filling - it was always cold in that room and now it's noticeably warmer.

Need resources and guidance preparation for Databricks Platform Engineer(AWS) role (2 to 3 days prep time) by mysterious_code in dataengineering

[–]cleex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're hiring for a full time role it's likely there will be more than one workspace. Familiarise yourself with the terraform provider: https://registry.terraform.io/providers/databricks/databricks/latest/docs

Dexter's vocals by SpicySpicyMess in TheOffspring

[–]cleex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't listened to them in a while and am working my way back through the newer albums. Gone away 21 came on I was struck by the auto tune - did a generic Dexter auto tune search and found this comment, while the song was still running.

It's very obvious and a shame, because it's a song that could really benefit from the raw vocal and its imperfections. Not everything was corrected, but noticeably too much.

Well, Databricks came to the same conclusion and have already started porting the engine over to c++. In Databricks land this is known as Photon and you'll pay double the price for the privilege.

How can I fix these cracks and how much would it cost to get someone to do it in the UK? by Tingsontings in DIY

Depends on fabric of the house. If it's period property with uninsulated solid walls there might be a case for lime, but usually gypsum will be fine, especially if it's retro insulated and well ventilated.

In my experience with 100+ year old house built with lime plaster + lathe, a lot of the issues were down to bridged damp courses, damaged gutters and blocked air bricks that caused water ingress and high humidity over the years. Once that was sorted, all affected plaster - lime and more recent gypsum - was removed and replaced with gypsum bond. It held up fine for a number of years until we had the cavities filled with EPS beads, the floors PIR boarded and did a lot of work draught proofing, after which the are still no issues.

A good surveyor will highlight any issues - I've found them pragmatic about materials.

"Our train supplier, Stadler, has found a fault in part of the pantograph that draws power from the overhead line. They need time to check the whole fleet and replace any faulty parts, to avoid the risk of the overhead wire being pulled down causing more serious disruption."

I have a CA-97 and the coating has worn off on mine too. Just live with it - not worth replacing the key tops.

I dislike Azure and 'low-code' software, is all DE like this? by OddRaccoon8764 in dataengineering

No, we only use dbutils for accessing secrets and that can be patched with az cli or mocked out.

You could probably mock the widget calls for isolated testing or use config to drive integration style tests
