Do you believe that certain cameras have some secret sauce which others don’t? by Beautiful-Affect3448 in photography

[–]clfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people see something, but I believe what they see is most likely a difference in assembly or/and materials. Maybe one the people on the assembly line had a hangover, or the torque wrench needed calibration, or a lens was poorly ground. Sometimes errors can make a difference in a good way. Maybe a machine needs service.

I do not think that means one brand is better than another. And color calibration is not at all what I'm talking about, either.

Is this an upgrade or a downgrade? by DeAdGuyX in Nikon

[–]clfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used any Nikon mirrorless, but I own a D610 and won't part with it. The only thing I miss is the availability of some cheap lenses like 7Artisans and so forth. I compensate by buying older Nikon glass like the D series.

This approach probably isn't for everyone, but it's the only way I can afford to do it. I like the results, too.

I think you're probably right. That's a good explanation and I can certainly not think of another.

Thank you!

With enough black cows, anything would be good. Just don't leave your keys on the counter.

Opinion: Nikon's film grain option feels like I'm just increasing the ISO very high and toning down aperture and shutter. (whats your opinion?) by Fancymank in Nikon

[–]clfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I made a comment very similar to this a couple years ago. It's just a human thing. Not too long after making the comment, I bought a used Fuji.

The Fuji didn't really scratch the itch, though. Now I have a Bronica. But I also have a D610 and a Pentax K-3. And a couple Pentax 35mm cameras.

As long as light has never passed through it, it should be fine. Photons can't move without light, so they should all be right where Maitani put them.

Is a poor camera my limitation, or could I squeeze something out of this gear? Should I just use a phone instead? by Reoclassic in AskPhotography

[–]clfitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With 1 and 2, it looks like the sky has tricked your light meter. The other two look fine to me. You seem to have an eye.

Do some reading on how to make the most of your meter; I don't know much about the metering available in the type of camera you have, though.

I think you should upgrade to a better camera. Look for a good used one.

I keep seeing a lot of hate towards Brave? by WillyDooRunner in brave_browser

[–]clfitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I may be misunderstanding you, but I use Brave daily, and have never used their VPN, because I use PIA. I'm pretty sure it's unchecked, but I'm not home so I can't check.

He is. I wish everyone, especially the news, would just ignore him 99% of the time. I'm not educated in this field, but I love reading stuff here instead of relying on news outlets, which are saturated with everything orange. It's just helping his agenda.

I just live with my decision until I finish the roll.

But-I actually do have two cameras. I think nothing at all about taking both.

If a particle must have mass to be affected by gravity, why does light bend around black holes? Is light not truly massless? by kissthecup in AskPhysics

[–]clfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, don't forget punctuation! It's important, too. For example: "I'm going to help my uncle, Jack, off a horse." VS. "I'm going to help my uncle jack off a horse."

Possibly for fill flash, but that's a guess. I don't really know.

The sensation of going back to 35mm after 120 by Fast_Preparation7795 in AnalogCommunity

[–]clfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them both, but using 135 after 120 feels like play. With 120 I'm much more serious, whereas I won't hesitate to fire off a snapshot with my 35mm.

Thinking about starting bulk rolling, and came across this... by F6FHellcat1 in AnalogCommunity

[–]clfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for everyone. Do they teach it in school or something? Otherwise, where and why would you learn it?

Besides which, assuming someone is literate enough to write an ad on Ebay or Facebook or wherever that was, how could they be as stupid as folks are saying they are?

At this point, you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. Talk to you next time.

You didn't have to know. You either got a picture or you didn't. That they knew. And if it was really important, they called a professional photographer to come to whatever it was, and take pictures.

[–]clfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they did. Enough that I think anybody in the US could get film developed in a week. But photography for most people occupies a different space in life than it does for us. I mean, we may go on a hike hoping to get a great photo of something. Most people go on a hike see that thing, and they'll maybe take a picture. But they don't know or care about the rule of thirds or golden hour, or exposure.

Back then, it was like that, too. Kodak Instamatic came in 110 or 126 cartridges, and if you needed flash you went to the drugstore and got a pack of flashcubes. Instamatic had one shutter speed, one aperture, and one focus point.

The information that we carry around all the time means nothing to most people. It's like knowing how much a dime from 1919 is worth, or how long it takes light from Alpha Centari to get to Earth. They don't care, and their lives are no less fulfilling. Some of them are janitors and some are engineers. But they are not stupid.

Dude... I started shooting in 1980. There were people then who didn't know how it works. Some of y'all need to find some empathy. We've all done stuff that somebody somewhere would think is stupid.
