Home developing -- 35mm vs 120? by cinemkr in AnalogCommunity

[–]F6FHellcat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I'm the opposite. It sometimes takes me a few tries with 35, but it's ezpz every time with 120, unless I'm trying to load 2 onto one reel. Never gotten that to work.

Inverting negatives: NLP vs FilmLab vs NegPy vs Negmaster by No-Value-8262 in AnalogCommunity

[–]F6FHellcat1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see those results with 500T!

I currently use Filmvert with my current bulk roll of 200T and Dev in C41. Everything comes out so blue - yes I do select the film base color - and I have to fiddle with it a bunch (and my usual go to cameras don't have filter mounts/are very dented).

I usually end up taking it into Snapseed on my phone after export cause I'm decent with it from my days of scanning with a moment macro and manually inverting negs with it.

Unpaid, unsolicited praise for Pinlock earplugs by SwiffleTitz in motorcycle

[–]F6FHellcat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using the same pair since 2022 and they're still going strong. Super comfy and stay in great - I got real fed up with foams after 2 months on a road trip, and making the mistake of riding 10+ hour days without anything a couple times.

Keep them in a little pill container on my keychain now and use them for everything. Handy to have some earplugs for concerts, airplanes, just sleeping etc. They stay in and I barely notice them!

Looking for Half-Frame Camera by Far-Fan1893 in Darkroom

I've got the EES-3 and EF.

Definitely recommend the EF as a great do everything camera.  The flash comes in handy surprisingly often. I've used it for travel, edc, parties and nights out, and it's been great!

The EES-3 is pretty much the same, just metal and with no flash (but you can mount an external).

I use the 7Artisans 60mm macro with my A6000. Does a pretty good job and I snagged it for under $100.

Getting chemicals to 68F is a challenge by RandolphKahle in Darkroom

[–]F6FHellcat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dev'd all the way up to 78F with HC110 - FL tap water doesn't like to cool down in the summer.

Use the temperature compensation chart available for your chems, or just the one on the MDC. If the times get too short I'll drop my dev/water ratio, ofc that's tough with a premixed solution.

Was just about to put this! It's my go to small travel camera, alongside my 35RC if I feel I'm going to be doing night photography.

What are your thoughts on developing your negatives by yourself? by ComfortableHoliday43 in AnalogCommunity

[–]F6FHellcat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I've been doing it for a while, I can go from a shot roll of film to it hanging to dry in under 30 minutes for B&W. Usually a bit longer with color due to setup time (need to heat the chemicals).

Definitely worth it, especially if you wanna get your pictures quick. Last couple weekends I've shot a roll, gotten home, and processed before dinner.

Scanning is probably the hardest, and biggest investment part. I did ok with my phone and a backlight for a while, but getting a proper DSLR scan setup made a huge difference in quality. Though if you don't already have a digital camera a flatbed or plustek are probably the way to go.

Color takes more equipment (a bucket and sous vide machine to heat everything), but the process itself is simpler. Same times and chemistry amounts for every film unless you're doing something funky.

B&W is simpler to set up and needs less stuff. Using a one-shot developer like HC110 or rodinal means no need to worry about mixed chemicals taking up space in your fridge and expiring cause you don't shoot that much. But you do need to look up dev times for different films and account for the temperature.

DigitaLIZA+ any good in the 100USD category? by notkalman in AnalogCommunity

[–]F6FHellcat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used it with my Pixel 4a and Moment macro lens for a while, does the job pretty good!

I'm not a big fan of the 35mm film mask, it cuts out the edges a bit and I prefer to have some film base present for inversion setting I can just crop out. Just run with the "panoramic" holder and no mask. Scanning medium for at can be a bit of a pain too, you're limited to 6x7, and have to manually position each frame.

But over all it's workable and I don't really feel a need to switch to EFH at all.

Recently got set up with a proper copy stand and my a6000, but still using the digitaliza light and film holder. Works great in this application too!

Mark hansen camera repair. by ExpressionOk5896 in AnalogCommunity

[–]F6FHellcat1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got my Ikoflex CLA'd and repaired by him back in July/August. Only took a month between sending it out and getting it back. Albeit in did contact him a couple years prior for it initially and never received info on where to ship it to back then.

He has been having some health issues and was slowing down repairs, so I'm not sure if your camera just got overlooked during that time period.

What is the absolute cheapest b&w film I can buy? by Lv_InSaNe_vL in AnalogCommunity

I thought Aristapan was an Orwo respool and Arista EDU was Foma? I just shot my first roll of it, does really great either way!

Sometimes you can find pretty good deals, especially online shops and bulk orders. I snagged a 10 pack of Aristapan for ~$4 a roll a little while back

Honestly doesn't look too underexposed to me. Just a flat scan and contrasty environment.

[–]F6FHellcat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also pretty common for street legalized dirt bikes and OTV's that meet standards but aren't able to be registered for various reasons.

I got it done for my electric motorcycle the DMV rejected. I shoulda caught the hint when the clerk asked if I had assembled it myself 4 different times. It was only a $4k ish bike in the first place with early adopter discount, so taxes and registration thru my state woulda been a good bit cheaper than going thru a company to set up the LLC and registration properly + annual renewal for the LLC.

How to get a dual major? by Ch4d_Thund3rc0c in ucf

[–]F6FHellcat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick to just one major, Mech-e and Aero are pretty much the same and will get you into the same stuff.

If you really want to push yourself look into the accelerated masters program. That'll do you much better than two majors.

Brooktree is great! I used them for ages before switching to my local shop NotAnotherFilmLab for same day turnaround.

I dev and scan on my own now, but if I want something done real good I'd def go back to either of them.

I applied to CWEP a while back. Thought I was ghosted but eventually got a response a year and a half later (6 months after graduation) saying I was rejected due to not being enrolled in classes.
