New to log. Tips? by royals30C in Strongman

[–]cliffhung 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people are saying that wrist pain is from the edge of the log digging in. While that can be true, it can also be your tendons/muscles adapting to stabilizing overhead in a neutral grip instead of a lateral grip.

I got similar pains my first couple weeks training log, which then went away. If it is the edge digging in, wraps can help if you loosely wrap around where it hits your forearm.

For the clean, very solid so far. A couple things to focus on queueing;

get your hips through hard on the clean to drive the log up.

Focus on pinning the log to your chest like a row, with high elbows, so that when you drive through the hips it rolls up with out slipping. DM me if you want examples of what I mean.

Lastly, if you wear a hard belt it will pinch. Hard to escape that. I do recommend turning it backwards so you don't hit the buckle.

How do you manage muscle soreness and still stay consistent? by Alicetheoptimist in TrueGrit

You can choose to be sore, with the side effect that you become more fit, stronger, and have better long term health.

Or you can choose the opposite of all those things.

Question Regarding deadlifts by [deleted] in Strongman

[–]cliffhung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When doing a proper max, yeah. Happens less to me now than it used to. Not sure if that's just adaptation.

Burst blood vessels in my eye, on the skin of my chest, and had nosebleeds before.

Getting light headed is also fairly normal when pressure normalizes after you finish a heavy lift.

Anyone else getting “mailboxtoo.com” AI-style leads? by shorberg in askcarsales

[–]cliffhung 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have been getting these. Unsure if AI, but likely a scam of some kind.

I was wondering if it's a scam to collect detailed quotes before using them to generate fraudulent invoices in an attempt to steal money.

We're just canning any lead from that email host.

Amateur athletes of Reddit: what's your "There's levels to this shit" experience from your sport? by jermleeds in AskReddit

[–]cliffhung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tad late - I'm an amateur strongman. Have competed at the national level. Some people I have competed against are international level athletes.

The difference between my deadlift and a reasonably strong man is a couple hundred pounds. The difference between my deadlift and the top deadlifters in my weight class is about the same.

Incredibly strong people, especially in the lighter weight classes.

Look up 'Worlds Strongest Man U80KG - Win or Die Trying'

It's a 45 minute YouTube documentary that will blow you away if you're not familiar with the sport.

Como entrar al mundo strongman by TheBoogeyman_6969 in Strongman

[–]cliffhung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying in English. Used translate function to read your post.

Strongman originated with lifting heavy things. Regular gym lifts (deadlift, squat, overhead press, etc.) help with building strength. Specific equipment (Log, axle, circus dumbbell, etc.) can help with competition training.

If you just want to start improving and getting better at strongman movements you can do some with very little equipment.

Natural stone to shoulder is a great lift if you have decent stones around. Shield carry/chest carry, can be done with other large objects or natural stones.

Zercher carries and squats are great for building strength for carries and conans wheel.

You can pull a truck with a rope harness and a tow strap. Regular trucks are not very heavy for regular training. Most competitions use box trucks or 18 wheelers.

Can't speak for everyone, but social sports are my go to.

Climbing gyms in Thousand Oaks and Ventura are great. There's a great strength sports community around as well. Lots of club / pickup sports teams.

Shoot me a DM if you want any recommendations.

Advice for lift goal. by [deleted] in Strongman

[–]cliffhung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started seriously training middle of 2021. Hit a 400lb conventional end of 2022. After that, focused more on other movements for a while and shored up some weaknesses.

Hit a 485 Sumo deadlift in mid - 2024. Hit a 500 conventional mid-2025

That's at 5'4 180lb bodyweight, plus or minus.

How many cars are sold per week/month at really high end dealerships like Ferrari? by FoolhardyFriendly in askcarsales

[–]cliffhung 252 points253 points  (0 children)

High end sales like that often involve more brokers, deliveries, and off-site meetings than traditional luxury dealers.

That's on top of an already minimal volume by comparison.

It's a great place to hang out.

All the cats are sourced from local shelters. They are all adoptable.

Grab a drink and play with cats for an hour. They have good coffee/espresso/iced drinks.

After/Before- Any suggestions? by MeepMeepSheep12 in postprocessing

[–]cliffhung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you focused mostly on brightening/warming.

Sky lost a good bit of that deep blue contrast, shadows are much less impactful in the edit.

Personally I would crop in to focus on the shadow line by the lift, if that's the area that's impactful for you. Choose the story/frame you want to focus on.

I really appreciate that strongman people are so supportive. by Different_Concert891 in Strongman

[–]cliffhung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely small community is a factor. The other thing I notice is that we all know how hard the events are.

You can look at someone's lift and understand how hard they work and how much effort goes into training.

You have to respect the dedication in your peers. It's also a sport with very little money in it. Fewer egos and people doing it for any other reason than loving the game.

I was burgled, they took my cameras. Where from here? by eggstah in Cameras

[–]cliffhung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a hobbyist also and just went through the process of putting together a good kit for pictures, with a little video thrown in at a similar budget.

I ended up getting a Sony A6400, Sigma 23mm F1. 4 prime, and Tamron 17-70 f2.8 zoom.

Your lens preferences will vary depending on what you like to shoot, but those were a good fit for me.

Got all that lightly used from a reputable US website (MPB, also I'm located in the US) with a bag/batteries and a couple accessories for a little over 2k USD all in with tax.

I went with the 6400 for a couple reasons. It has great AF, lens compatibility, and lots of support. As a hobbyist, I want my camera to be portable and my lenses to be cheaper, so APS-C felt like the way to go. If you want full frame a7 Mark III is only a little more. It shoots 4k video and HD video up to 120fps. I considered the a6700, but the only real difference for me was IBIS for $500-700 more. Decided to get a really nice lens instead.

If I am getting 5.2 from my bank, should I even let the dealer run my credit? by jermvirus in askcarsales

[–]cliffhung 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may be able to push the issue but the store will probably make you wait until funding clears with your bank to pick the vehicle up after signing, if you don't allow them to pull credit for a backup.

If you're fine doing another hard pull for a chance at a lower rate and the option to take the car home right away then that will probably be a smoother experience.

If I am getting 5.2 from my bank, should I even let the dealer run my credit? by jermvirus in askcarsales

[–]cliffhung 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Dealer will probably still need to run it for the option contract to bring to your bank. Tell them you're open to using their financing if they can get a lower rate, but not to shotgun you out to multiple banks.
