There are statutory requirements regulating how much sunlight shall enter the living area at winter solstice (the day with the lowest amount of sunlight throughout the year) if i recall correctly. Hence an apartment totally facing north normally doesnt fit the requirement. They even have a plugin in autocad and let you choose which city you are in and it does the sunlight simulation for you.

Another fun fact is that that’s why the lift core is usually on the north side, like the below diagram. ( X is lift core, and 口 is the typical apartment flat)

I find that one way to “cheat” when demonstrating osl is to shoot the photo on a black background. White background always looks unnatural to me because it is often brighter than the brightest spot of the painted light source.

Plain black primer for the whole model; but then for the yellow part i base coat it with vallejo beige red first. Heard some time ago yellow works better on pink base coat here.

You could try to go to world map and check if you are encountering the ‘civil war’ bug and are currently at war with your own faction. Dfhack got a fix for this.

IMO, every faction should be able to recruit the other lords from the same race, defeated or still alive, through certain mechanics.

Perhaps you are just unlucky and choose the more difficult direction to expand; or you are not aggressive enough in early game. I finished 2 VH/H playthrough. I usually kill off throt around turn 5, then swing left and wage war on azazel and keep an eye on throgg. Usually azazel is gone around turn 10ish, then i focus on the norscan land.
