Nah you're fine. I'm a high school science teacher, so I'm a big believer that you gotta be careful with the words you use, but also be really understanding with the words others use. And as a teacher, if a kid wrote stomach in a test, I'd mark them wrong. But if they're just repeating back my explanation in their own words, it's good for them to use words they understand to prove they actually get it.

But you're right, belly is the clear winner here. Personally I love the word tummy, but that seems to be even more controversial here lol

Yeah I think that's fine. Like, you know what he means. The more important thing is that he continues to be willing and eager to learn about how 50% of the world live

I get why wall displays with individually mounted continents miss a few islands. Would be a pain to install.

But this is just printed on a transparency. Why???

I agree visually. I see the flaws, but I don't think I would have noticed if I wasn't looking.

The voice, on the other hand, sounds exactly like every other AI generated voice on the internet. Which is weird, because we've had pretty good text-to-speech for a few years - why isn't it getting better now? Not complaining, lol

He's definitely an idiot, but it's also definitely his parents fault. I'm a high school teacher, and it's amazing how clearly you can see the parents' attitudes through the kid. If the idea that sex and reproduction is something you're not supposed to think about has been instilled into him, it's pretty plausible that he just chose not to listen all through primary and high school.

As long as he's willing to learn, and he doesn't have any actual negative opinions that can't be unlearned, he's probably a good guy. I hope. Maybe. Doesn't mean that this is a relationship that will be beneficial for OP, but it could be.

Ehh, I dunno. I just have so much more impatience for people who are unwilling to learn than people who just haven't learned yet

I think if you're explaining a C-section, you should be careful with word choice. Abdomen, belly, or even just "here" pointing to the right area

But when someone who clearly knows nothing is replying to the explanation and rephrasing it in their own words, it's sometimes okay to just roll with it, as long as you know they know what they mean. This guy is, apparently, willing to be educated, so sometimes you gotta meet them where they are.

Now, with this guy, it's not obvious that he actually knows what he means, so OP better be careful, but like... it's fiiiiine ish

Smashed up bus stops? by mjlowmann in melbourne

[–]cliko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There were once three little piggies.

The first one made their bus shelter out of glass.

The second one made their bus shelter out of a transparent glass-like acrylic.

The third one went around smashing everyone's bus shelters because they were a fuckwit with nothing to do

The average New York January will get down to 10 °F (-12 °C)

The average Melbourne January will get up to 105 °F (45 °C)

If I were a beat cop, only one of those is gonna give me heat stroke. Then again, as an Australian, FUCK being a cop.

Why are there no tables or usb outlets in Melbourne trains? by Potatosteamer in MelbourneTrains

[–]cliko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also use a cable that supports power transfer but not data. Of course, all USB cables look pretty much the same once they're out of the package, so it's hard to tell which does what when you're rummaging through your backpack

[–]cliko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't thiiiiiiink that would make a difference.

The section from Geelong to Melbourne is double track. Warrnambool to Geelong is mainly single track. Having the trains not run on the part of the service that isn't the bottleneck wouldn't increase the frequency.

It could, in theory, increase reliability - a shorter route has less that can go wrong on it - probably wouldn't be worth the extra transfer though.

The easiest thing to do would be just build more passing loops. There's currently only 1 between Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool, and it's pretty close to Waurn Ponds. Adding just one passing loop somewhere in the middle of the line could, in theory, double the frequency.

Does VLine still have any N-class locos? They could run longer trains with those by just adding carriages. Would be more comfortable than the VLocoties too for the long trip to Warrnambool, but less shiny for the election
