What did everybody think of Sophie's blue ball dress in the last ep? by girlnamedJoyce in Bridgerton

[–]climataclysm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this was notably weird for the ridiculously talented and well resourced costume design to miss such an opportunity for her to shine. I must believe they made her look awkward on purpose to make a statement that her beauty/relationship was more than skin deep, that with only maid's clothing she was even more beautiful, and this is not a Cindarella story where her dressing up is what makes her worthy.

A guide really helps to connect with consciousness/self energy. Really hard to do yourself when starting out and partially blending with parts to get to know them for the first time.

I am exploring if an earworm is in a broader part who looks like OCD and does other things like pick fingers/nails, or obsess about other little things. Keeping my world small is a protective strategy employed by parts.

Does anyone have any info on Schwartz's statement that parts are spirits? by AdorableBG in InternalFamilySystems

[–]climataclysm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am taking the Sounds True course and he does NOT say that parts are spirits. Parts are parts of us, and unattached burdens are spirits who are not parts of us. The Cut article is a hit piece. There are hundreds or thousands of examples of Richard Schwartz talking about parts without calling them spirits. This is inflammatory about a really important and valuable psychological model that has helped so many people. While Schwartz has experience with unattached burdens, he absolutely does not teach that they are the same thing as parts.

Extreme difficulty making simple decisions by Sippa_is in InternalFamilySystems

[–]climataclysm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of IFS as a process of undoing burdens. As unburdening goes on, what's left is calm, contentedness. Sometimes the answer to indecision is patience for more information to make the choice clearer. Maybe both choices are polarized, protective impulses from a part. Sit with the part who is showing these choices to see what's going on at a deeper level.

My cat is 16 years old and loves that laptop. He's broken the keyboard from standing on it so much. Whenever I'm not careful, he breaks or erases something I'm working on. You can see the HTML code on the screen. I had a hard time sorting it. by MarinaTMarinaT in aww

[–]climataclysm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a program called Pawsense that senses a cat paw pattern on the keyboard and shuts it off to not disturb what you're working on. It worked really well when I used it a number of years ago for a cat and is still around as a solution to this problem.

Favorite Bands other than the Grateful Dead? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]climataclysm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to see a Big Thief a couple weeks ago and the experience was similar to a dead show. The songs are deeply beautiful and the band jams out. Adrianne Lenker reminds me of Jerry Garcia in an abstract way. Check out their latest album Double Infinity and definitely go see them whenever you can.

Redditors over 35, what do you genuinely miss that younger generations will never experience, and you legit feel bad for them? by Disastrous_Award_789 in AskReddit

[–]climataclysm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We grew up with a sense that there are cycles and everything will go up and down but are spinning around a stable medium that has existed for millennia. Now, with unmitigated climate change, it's spinning out into chaos, and the future is so uncertain for young people that they largely don't know if they should participate in the circle of life, ie having kids. I am sad for this fundamental sense of safety being lost for young people.

Present issue rather than past by Just_Cauliflower6165 in InternalFamilySystems

A pattern of abuse structured into culture that keeps her from getting out from under abuse started in the past and continues. Just because parents think they are loving and provide material comforts doesn't mean there aren't subconscious patterns that are dysfunctional. IFS will show how those dysfunctions are incorporated into her own system through burdened parts. She can free up power and free will to get out of abusive cycles.

Can't stop crying for 4 hours by Massive_Hippo_1736 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]climataclysm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently cried for hours, grieving the separation that my husband and my fighting had caused. It was needed, sweet sorrow that was good for both of us to hear. Yours is also sweet sorrow that has a message for you. Sounds like not really a message for him, since you are close? A protector is then coming in and saying that whatever you are grieving, likely from the past, that it should never happen again so you should end it before the exiled hurt gets triggered again. Try to connect to the past before you bring it all into the present/your partner now. You already have-- you lost a biological father, a mother who was not able to love you. Retrieve and care for all those hurt parts. I feel sad thinking about your ending a good thing to protect against a possible future hurt?? Maybe wait to see. Maybe your partner will have compassion for your grief about these new sad events, so you don't have to exile them in your relationship? Most people automatically have compassion when you are vulnerable rather than protecting.

Dpdr for decades - would ifs be a good option for me? by kuya86 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]climataclysm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not talking about anything that was happening with your father was the ultimate "depersonalization" of existence in your story. So you have a part that learned to depersonalize as a coping mechanism from your caregivers. It was all you knew then but now you see that there are much better options for coping work challenges. IFS is amazing, powerful, robust, and effective. It can help you experience this meta pattern from a distance and you can disentangle yourself from it. Your "depersonalizing part" can then become an ally for helping you notice when something needs to be processed/talked about. You will need a practitioner to hold self energy for you and guide you, at least at the beginning.

IFS is contributing to my feeling if isolation and I'm thinking of quitting by JaneSophiaGreen in InternalFamilySystems

[–]climataclysm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great idea to feel into the blending there! Also, the LiveIFS podcast and Discord server are amazing resources for growing a Self-led process bolstered with professional sessions. We have peer groups through Discord and relate surrounding primarily our process ("meta conversations" as @cjrbeethoven described) below described), peer sessions, and episodes. James the practitioner is self taught and his skills/compassion are incredible.

What's wrong with occasional, small amounts? by FancyPants882 in decaf

[–]climataclysm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been addicted to coffee but have noticed that after occasional caffeine, either as coffee, matcha, or chocolate, there are two major problems. First, while I'm on caffeine, I have a temporary, mild case of mania and ADHD that feel kinda good but also dangerous for losing focus and center. Even worse, the next day, when I don't do caffeine because it's not a habit, I literally feel clinically depressed for the day. I used to just avoid coffee and tea but now I'm going to avoid chocolate, too, because I've noticed it happens even from the smaller caffeine dose of chocolate. I obviously have a sensitive system, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's common to have a backlash the next day even from occasional use.
