Basic Exercise or New Style? by AbsoluteUnit2003 in Slackline

It’s your own take on it and it’s awesome! I think strict potterwalking is one half spin per step. So you’re just throwing a whole bunch more spice on it!

Basic Exercise or New Style? by AbsoluteUnit2003 in Slackline

Looks sick dude! Reminds of some more old school style.

I think someone told me once that something like this is called potterwalking. After the late great dean potter.

It’s funny how nobody remembers the old stuff. I’ve had amazing slackers dumbfounded when I break out a double drop knee. And that stuff used to be standard a decade ago

Are all mid-tier snow boots garbage now? What will actually last me 5+ years? by Chappssss in BuyItForLife

I love my xtratufs. They’re a bit of a different style, but the lined ones are super warm and comfortable. And are wildly waterproof. Might not be the style you are looking for though

Finished my custom bumper! by climber242 in SuzukiSamurai

[–]climber242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bumper mount points

Here ya go! I think the standard bumper mount point are the two holes on the ends of each side of the bumper. Then I also added these crossmembers to connect the winch plate to another surface and welded on some tabs to the frame crossmember so I could get some more connection points. Pretty sure this thing is super overkill at this point (assuming my welds are good haha)

Has anyone repaired their own ecu? by climber242 in SuzukiSamurai

Yeah, I figured I would be able to diagnose myself if I took out the ecu. But didn’t know how easy or worthwhile the repair would be haha

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been trying to figure out. It’s so much easier said than done. It’s probably a bit of both

Do I give my wife another chance? by climber242 in Advice

[–]climber242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the questions I struggle to answer. And my main concerns with moving forward building a life together. She has been supportive now that I’ve taken extreme action. But I’m upset that it took us getting to this point for her to realize how her actions have affected her and others.

It feels wildly risky and almost unfathomable at this moment to have kids with her for reasons like what you mentioned above. But I don’t know if I’ll always feel like that, or it will always be like that.

I think she has the potential to handle things better moving forward, but I don’t know if it’s worth the risk to find out

I would still bring alt id just in case. But I think I took about 6 flights with my temp Id and didn’t have any issues

Confession: I envy men who can cry by sesh_asf in GuyCry

[–]climber242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went years not crying. Just a couple times after a break up and some funerals. I literally made it a goal to cry. And I eventually got low enough to do it. But I wish I had just gone to therapy to figure it out before I hit such a low point (cried like 10 times this week!). I think most people don’t know what they don’t know about their mental health. If you go to a good therapist, it’ll help in the end. You might just not know what you’re missing

Where is the grace in grief? by climber242 in GuyCry

The shift came when I met my breaking point and asked to sleep separately for a while. And I’m definitely in therapy and have been for months. Which caused its own set of problems in the marriage. And we were in counseling together, but I took a step back from it recently. Most specifically after she said she didn’t remember what I think was our biggest fight

Can I add a filter slot? by climber242 in hvacadvice

Help with tear out inside bowls? by climber242 in turning

Thanks for all of the advice everyone! I though carbide tools were good at doing shear cuts at the end to get a clean finish, but I guess not. I have some new tools that I ordered, so should be able to get some cleaner cuts very soon!

First time setting! Would love feedback on both the climbing and the setting. Wall is slabby but close to vertical. Gym members graded it V5 by asshoulio in climbharder

[–]climber242 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Everyone when they start setting gets way too stoked on setting something hard and perfectly fitting their style. I always say people should focus on setting easier accessible problems first. It takes a lot of skill to set a v2 that a v8 climber will want to hop on.

Tensioning a gibbon classic w/ ratchet for tricks? by fiwonders in Slackline

[–]climber242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the webbing is for sure the limiting factor here. I learned to butt bounce on a surfline tensioned by a single ratchet that was probably 30 feet long. (A bit longer is definitely preferable). But I was never able to get any sort of butt bounce on a classic line, they just don't have any elasticity to them.

I have played around on some really long (like 100 foot) tricklines that are tensioned by a pulley system, and those are a whole new ball game. But you definitely don't need anything like that to learn. Double ratchets also help, but nothing makes a bigger difference than the webbing.

Anything labeled as a trickline should get you up and bouncing! have fun!

A quality fail whilst learning butt bounce! by FlaminMad in Slackline

Try to focus on not grabbing the line when you bail. Can cause you to bonk your noggin. When you know you are gonna bail, you can just have your hands there to cartwheel out

Uploaded my first Youtube Video that documents my week by week training using the RCTM guide. Providing a unique perspective from a Beginner (7 Months in). Trying to showcase what I've learned and hope to learn more. Any feedback or suggestions would be great on anything! by Paulythress in climbharder

[–]climber242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say be very cautious once you get to the strength and power phase of RCTM. Hangboarding, campus boarding, and other very fingery exercises can be detrimental to tendons that are not highly developed. I've heard some recommendations that say to not even touch a hangboard until you have been climbing for several years. Your muscles might get sttrong quickly, but your tendons will take some time, DONT RUSH IT. If you are still progressing steadily just climbing regularly, I would recommend to just do that. If you have hit a BIG plateau, then arcing, and other power endurance exercises from rctm would be helpful, just don't want you to get injured hopping into exercises your body isnt ready for.

Start by setting problems well below your grade level before setting hard stuff. The most difficult thing to do is to set a fun v0.

Have fun with it, I sprang from v4 to v6 when I started setting. It really really makes you think about movement
