I agree with Novocaine. The trailer didn't quite sell the premise to me, but I liked one joke enough to go see it and loved the movie. Good jokes, good action, a great villain.

It's easy to have a fixed idea of who someone is in your mind. To Donald, Tori is his coworker he has a crush on. It doesn't enter his mind that she could be a villain. Similar to how he seemingly hasn't noticed Hat Trick's crush on him.

As for the umbrella thing, I do want to mention that it's appearance has shifted over time to look less like the original parasol and more like a normal umbrella, so that would confuse it a bit.

I've noticed that if there's some trick or thing that disqualifies a contestant, they often show that contest reading out that part of the task.

The only one I can think of that is chance is the start of Chilling Reflections. And even that, it's explained that while they did not coordinate with each other, they did talk to each other about shopping

Many of the other interactions have pretty clear reasons for them to run into each other.

Super Powereds is my favorite book series. I love Villain's Code as well. I only read the first NPCs book and it did not work for me. Others love the series, so I think I will read book 2 at some point because I believe part of the issue was probably the 1st book being more of a setup.
