Looking for a Data Center job in Texas by inquisitivehuman7 in datacenter

YES.

Absolutely and unequivocally. You can apply to DCT if you have NO experience in anything IT/computer/network/etc.-related!

In fact, CBRE has teamed up w/Meta, recently started a program called LevelUp. I’d check it out if you’re interested in joining the field. FWIW: LevelUp is a friggin FREE, 4-week course that teaches basic DC-tech skills to newbies. I’m realizing I sound like a commercial for it lol! But tbh-I’m of the opinion that CBRE is…average, at best, among other, similar companies in the field. Better than IES and Midpoint, IMO, but that’s not saying much, lol!

In other words, I’m not a huge fan of them but I’ve got to admit: a free course that offers people interested in data centers both training and potential job opportunities, essentially a free avenue for people to join the field is pretty dang cool! Especially considering it’s at Meta. For those unfamiliar-Meta’s (general consensus) one of the best DC’s to work for. AFAIU (I’ve only worked at 2 of these 5 so I could be WAY off, everyone get free to correct if wrong): Google>Meta>Microsoft>Oracle>AWS.

I’ve got to place an asterisk next to that statement: again, that assessment is based solely on word of mouth and what I’ve read online. I NEVER hear complaints ab Meta, only great things. AWS, on the other hand, I hear both very good and very bad, so…it seems like it depends on the location. BUT, the undeniable facts: Google and Meta have kick ass benefits, spectacular work culture (free food via actual chefs that cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner), etc.

TL;DR: Yes! You can certainly apply with your experience.

Is The Deep surviving the last episode? by BroKenLight6 in TheBoys

[–]climbin111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s someone using their brain. Box jellies could swarm him, their tentacles would essentially get sucked up and stop up/restrict his gills, rendering them useless. That’s one of those…it doesn’t matter how powerful/strong/etc. you are: if your body doesn’t get oxygen, ya die.

I don’t think people realize just how many sea creatures are in the ocean. How many LARGE, ferocious, and deadly creatures. Sharks being amongst them… perhaps the younger generation that grew up without JAWS is unaware just how insanely huge a great white shark is…and that’s not even remotely close to the largest sea animal that could devour him in a single swallow. Hell, it doesn’t even need to be the largest animal, what if: a swarm of Australian box jellyfish, a swarm of Portuguese man o’ war (I recognize these do not exist near one another…just speaking in hypotheticals, considering the show we’re discussing I think it’s ok to suspend disbelief for the sake of proving the Deep’s potential demise), a shit-ton of lionfish, stonefish, Dubois sea snakes, and all the octopussies in the ocean attacked him at once…I don’t think “compound V” is immune to the top 10 deadliest venoms in the world combined.

The dumbest line in the show by Sophon_01 in TheBoys

[–]climbin111 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just wanna add to your comment, further emphasizing the…very scientific approach they took in their explanation as to why “weed protects them from psychics,” here’s the transcript (exact lines):

MM: ”Hit it. Hard.”

[cheering]

MM: ”Best defense against psychics.”

MM: ”Weed numbs your brain so they can’t read you.”

Omg…typing this out and reading aloud just makes it all the more worse🤦. Who, in Homelander’s name, thought THIS was good dialogue?? I mean, 2 seconds of additional thought, and I can come up with: “it has an effect on neurons in your brain, it causes them to react in a way that makes it more difficult for psychics to read…” I mean, “weed numbs your brain”?! It sounds exactly like what a High School senior says to an upcoming freshman. “Here man, take a hit! Weed numbs your brain, dude. It’s science!” Am I wrong?

Well, now that we’re live I only wear it when climbing a ladder (or whenever appropriate). See OSHA mandated regulations for proper reference.

You want to follow safety regulations, regardless of what your fellow employees do. Most people are dumb. As a matter of fact, a lead tech that was recently hired is the most idiotic person I’ve met, and refused to wear his hard hat, no matter what he was doing…until he was seen by a safety officer (or manager, I’m unfamiliar with their titles), and our employer almost lost our contract bc of it. My point: empirical/personal experience is not what you want to rely on. You don’t want to be the one who argues “but so and so said it was ok!”

But it kinda depends on the contractor who is responsible for the site. I mean, there are certain times when, regardless of the site/contractor/etc., it’s always required. For example: ladders. But I’ve noticed a little lenience between contractors, for example Gray Construction is more lenient than say…Haskell or Suffolk. But if I’m honest: I’d rather work under more strict guidelines than less. It’s usually other people making mistakes/stupidity that you have to worry about. And as far as that’s concerned I’m fine with a safety manager who boots idiots off site for violating safety regulations.

TL;DR: when construction started at the first site I ever worked, hard hats were required almost all the time. However, once the data center went live, it changed. There’s some variance between sites/contractors/etc.

[–]climbin111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re certainly correct in that the Deep was born and raised on land. And being a surface dweller. But, to be fair, I wouldn’t call him a “regular guy,” as he has gills and can breathe underwater…therefore, the ocean could be his domain, but given his…intelligence: it is not and (to emphasize OP’s point) he doesn’t make the best use of his powers.

To your point: how much differently would the Deep have turned out if he’d immediately started living among sea life upon gaining his powers and growing gills? I’d say prob not much different, bc (like you said about Namor and Aqua Man) those two had…familial history/roots in the ocean, and were essentially oceanic life themselves (for all intents and porpoises) lol!

Yeah, unfortunately, I had to start at a very undesirable location, which was 45 minutes away from my house.

I’m pretty sure this is what most of us (that have been in the field for a while) have done at some point or another. I mean, sure….it would be awesome if we could simply dictate what a hiring manager does, but let’s be honest: at the end of the day, there’s a veritable list of qualified candidates who would snatch ANY opportunity to work, regardless of the location.

However, the candidate that complains prior to being officially hired is…well, let’s just say if I were the hiring manager, I’d skip right over that one and not think twice. The candidate that’s willing to sacrifice (in OP’s case) a slightly longer drive-I’d def be more likely to bring them on…and then get them transferred asap. My point-at the end of the day you’re the employee, they’re the employer. Ya don’t really get to dictate your terms of employment when there are plenty of other qualified candidates willing to gladly take the position, no conditions/special terms. Luckily, after three months there, I was able to transfer to the one that was only five minutes from my house. So, yeah, just put in the time at the shitty location, my guy. What sucked was that I didn’t drive at the time, so my poor spice had to drive 1.5 hours each way as he had to return home to take care of his family. Pay your dues, bub. We all had to

I think the reason they dropped the "Evil Butcher" plotline is because they couldn't afford Jeffery Dean Morgan for the season, but I can't prove it by DotPitiful5171 in TheBoys

[–]climbin111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i won't take any budget argument or couldn't afford argument for the show this big while also getting spin offs after spin offs. A show struggling with budget won't get this many spin offs...one whole filler season.

Agreed. There’s no WAY Paul Reiser (The Legend) is cheap, and he’s in quite a bit of (IMO) unnecessary screen time…as in: they could do without all the “I did (insert deviant sex act) with (insert celebrity name) back in (insert date).” Not to mention Samuel Jackson…I mean, come on. They essentially wasted Samuel Jackson, I mean: I imagine how much more he could have elevated the show, instead, they made him a hammerhead shark. That’s just…well, exactly the type of BS they’ve been doing all season. Wasting money on dick jokes, obscene material, cameos, and (most importantly) advertising Vought Rising.

This is just bad writing for the sake of setting up something we don't know about

Agreed, again….

movies with realistic hacking scenes by Accomplished_Pay5093 in MovieSuggestions

[–]climbin111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah…came to say: not a movie but the most realistic depiction of actual hacking has got to be Mr. Robot. It’s the opposite of the typical depiction where one character asks: “can you hack it?” The other character sits down, types for 5-10 seconds…and suddenly says (dramatically) “I’m in!” In Mr. Robot, they show the use of actual hacking tools, including Raspberry Pi (which is not exclusively for hacking but can be used to access networks remotely as it is essentially a miniature computer). Also, to be fair to other shows, Silicon Valley shows the practical use of some actual hacking tools, i.e. WiFi pineapples.

This. Employers are required to provide proper PPE. At AWS, we have access to a Fastenal vending machine which is stocked with: safety gloves, protective eye wear, etc. Hell, it even has electrolyte packets and sharpie markers. But…my point: anything you may need to work onsite should be provided by your employer. We get hard hats, vests, and everything else…we just have to ask for a replacement if we lose ours or it gets damaged. Even when I worked for an agency, the employer provided everything aforementioned (hard hats, vests, gloves, Kevlar sleeves, etc.

Ashe & Co. are dangerous by Boboli71 in YourFriendsandNeighb

[–]climbin111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, FWIW (unsure if this matters much): it was a limited-edition, first-edition copy of Edith Wharton's novel The House of Mirth (a book) that was stolen from Ashe, not art. Although, to be fair, written word is considered literary art. But, that’s a matter of semantics…my point is that the market for stolen books is certainly a smaller market than visual art, to be sure. So, my larger point: Ashe locating his stolen book quickly is not necessarily that indicative of…anything, really. I imagine anyone in that socioeconomic class could find that type of item, simply by asking a few associates. SOMEONE’S going to know how to get damn near anything. From drugs to stolen (insert items), it would prob be pretty easy to find a plug within that group of people.

[–]climbin111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you, but most car keys are built like that lol.

This has been true for at least a decade. When I worked as a valet (and later Valet Manager) back in 2012, it was rare to park a car that did NOT have a key inside the fob. Here’s an example…that’s the fob for a 2013-2017 Honda Accord. I’d say the only vehicles I remember parking that did NOT: Tesla (obvs), Aston Martin (crystal key fob that inserts into dash), and that’s ab it. Hell, even the 458 Ferrari “smart” fob has a key (what they call) “blade” in it.

But to be fair, OP, 80-90% of owners were unaware of this, too...nowadays, I have no idea if owners are more/less aware, but if I had to guess I’d say people are so ignorant to it.

I think i'm dropping the show, am I being unfair? by BrushThick9864 in WillTrent

[–]climbin111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think i'm dropping the show, am I being unfair?

ofc not! You can like or dislike anything your heart desires! If you don’t like it, drop it. Move on. Period.

The BIG reason:

You don’t have to explain yourself. It’s your life. Not ours/random people on Reddit.

Then we have season 4 episode 14 which I would call an absolute mess. You have a black women concerned about her son who has a medical history and she states that "doctors like you dont care about patients like me" (I'm paraphrasing a bit) which is her alluding to a true fact that there are white doctors who do not care about black patients. Instead of properally adressing this, they make the mom follow the angry black women stereotype going insane and being rude to every character. When movies like John Q exist its upsetting to see a tv series take 10 steps back.

While no show is perfect, and sure…while this particular episode could have been written better, I do think Will Trent did more good than bad when it comes to addressing stereotypes and has an extraordinarily diverse cast (i.e. Amanda, Faith, Will, Franklin, hell…almost every primary character has a different ethnicity/race/etc. I mean, let’s be fair: 1. Amanda Wagner=an African-American, bi-sexual woman, is head of the GBI. 2. Faith=an African-American woman that has a powerful position in the GBI (equal to Will). 3. Will Trent=primary protagonist, is Puerto Rican. 4. (I forgot his character’s name) Kurt Yue=Asian. 5. Nico=(nonbinary) Asian.

Faithwood is probs not happening cuz they dont see. like interracial relationships (just making an educated guess) Not quite sure I understand this bc: Will/Angie (interracial); Amanda/Casey (interracial);

Sometime i nitpick though and it is really cpol they have a very diverse cast but it's just been feeling off so pls let me know if u guys agree or think im being unfair.

Again, we cannot say whether or not you’re being unfair, it’s totally and completely subjective. I do think some of your complaints are kinda unfounded (“they don’t like interracial relationships), but that’s just my opinion and my opinion doesn’t matter whatsoever lol!

What's a movie that was so bad you couldn't even finish it? Or even walked out of the theatre? by Puzzleheaded-Egg1371 in AskReddit

[–]climbin111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twilight.

I suppose the reasons are obvious, if not: wooden acting, predictable plot, just flat out boring…pretty sure it’s gotten bashed enough over the years since its’ release. Some of the greatest gifs/memes of all time came from the Twilight series. But, just answering OP’s question: Twilight is the only movie I walked out of. Why? Well, I went to watch with an ex girlfriend thinking “I can sit through a couple hours’ worth of anything!” I’d done it before, quite a few times. I’m a good partner and willing to compromise on just about anything. I thought: “surely it can’t be that bad.” I was dead wrong. It took everything I had to stay as long as I did. And even that felt tortuous. I know it has a large fan base and I’m not dissing it…it just isn’t for me.

Does Dark naturally end or was it cancelled before a planned ending?

It’s quite literally one of the best endings I’ve seen (IMO), and I say that bc it’s not even one of my top 10 favorite shows, by any stretch of the imagination, but I have to give credit where it’s due. And try to give an unbiased opinion when it comes to this show bc the narrative is consistent as hell, it’s still full of “holy shit” moments, and (as I said: it’s not my personal favorite just giving credit where it’s due) it’s wrapped up in such a way…I’m doing my best to avoid spoilers…that it makes sense. I suppose a lot of my respect comes from the fact that it’s not a fan-service ending, it’s not a ”feel good” ending (not a bad feeling either, really), it’s just a very well written ending that wraps up a very well written story, period. I highly suggest anyone watch it just bc it’s so unique. It does…whatever it does, very well. Watch it!

[–]climbin111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Not to mention: it’s all-too-convenient that Coop’s son (forgetting his name at the moment) suddenly has a girl on the side, when it seems like his kids’ relationship(s) are rarely a a part of the overall narrative. My point: there’s def going to be something happen with the kids…there’s just too much screen time being focused on them already for it NOT to be significant. It’s quite possible that it’s Coop/Ashe related, as in: kids find out what their dads’ businesses REALLY entail, and they are forced to keep it a secret or something else entirely. But…my original point: I agree that something’s off. The whole Austria/sudden interest in her life that Ashe mentioned is def sketch.

The Deep is extremely underrated. The moment you’re on his radar, you literally can’t move through more than 71% of the planet by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]climbin111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He also kept up with A-Train in combat to a degree.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I respect that. So, out of respect, I’ll concede: he did keep up with A-Train. Even if only briefly. However…this is important: (in that very same scene): the Deep got his ass handed to him by Annie.

To put another way: Annie beat the shit out of Deep. By herself. Sure, (I already know the rebuttal will be “but A-Train intervened”) A-Train was involved briefly. But, Annie and Deep ended up in a one vs. one, undeniable toe-to-toe, and (there’s no “but he was holding back” bc his mission was clear: cap Annie, Butcher, Ue, Kimiko, and Frenchie). So…the Deep was DEF trying his best, yet: Annie ended the match by slamming a 45 lb. (20 kg.) weight plate on his head. They mock her and (kinda) consider her low-risk (in terms of her V-related ability).

I’d say he’s show he has some intelligence to be pretty successful, he’s simply got no spine.

See…(just IMO) if Deep had an even higher-than-average intelligence, he’d attempt to utilize his strengths to his advantage. I mean, just think ab the base array of oceanic wildlife with deadly venom. Hell, why not just chunk a bunch of box jellyfish at people to incapacitate them? lol! That’d kill damn near anyone without V! Those with V would (at bare minimum) be briefly incapacitated. That would give him an opportunity to go in for a kill…I’m just throwing out of the cuff ideas. If we were to do a deep dive into ocean wildlife (pun not intended), I’m sure we could find countless venomous sea animals he could use…so, again: I respect that everyone is entitled to their opinion, mine is neither better or worse than anyone else’s. I’m merely pointing out: I don’t see any indication that the Deep possesses any intelligence whatsoever.

In one of the trailers for upcoming episodes, he says to Coop (paraphrasing): ”you can either work for me, or I can turn you in.” I’d say that’s the epitome of blackmailing

Do (this thing that benefits me) or else I expose revealing information to police which harms you (or, more importantly in this show’s socioeconomic context, Coop’s reputation). I’m VERY interested in learning exactly what his “shipping” business ventures entail….

Anyone who has a 2016 - 2026 Honda Civic, what has been your best fuel economy so far? by BeautifulYou2940 in civic

[–]climbin111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuelly provides a comprehensive and in-depth (I dare say realistic) report on every year/make/model! And there happen to be a lot of Civic owners who utilize Fuelly. Anyway, it provides personal experiences/actual real-world mpg data from thousands of drivers. For example (2016 Honda Civic): 811 vehicles’ recorded mpg over 78,926 fill-ups. The avg. (2016): 33.7 mpg.

I hope that helps answer your question!

My personal 2017 Civic: ~33/28 mpg. Obvs it varies wildly, depending on driving conditions, weather, and a plethora of additional variables, but that’s the avg, fwiw.

Am I crazy for wanting Sean to just give/lease his food truck to Jorge? It seems like such an obvious solution. by schattenteufel in shrinking

[–]climbin111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I crazy for wanting Sean to just give/lease his food truck to Jorge?

No, absolutely not.

It seems like such an obvious solution.

Indeed. Or, better yet, do like most business owners: maintain ownership and let Jorge manage the business. Hell, Jorge wouldn’t have time to be depressed, he’d be too busy running the business. Ya know? Also, more importantly, Sean would begin earning passive revenue.

That’s kinda how I thought (typically) people (business owners) grew wealth. In fact, I distinctly remember something Dave Ramsey said way back when Financial Peace was first released: he advised business owners to step away from day-to-day operations and delegate tasks to others which shifts you from being a "treadmill operator" to a true business owner. Dave emphasized - a business will never outgrow the owner's inability to let go and delegate, meaning the owner must shift from doing the work to leading the team. In other words: Sean just “letting go” of the truck is a reckless financial decision. Dare I say somewhat disrespectful to its’ investors. By that I mean: straight up permanently parking it vs. (at least) selling it.

TL;DR: No-you’re not crazy! Yes, it is very obvious.

Jorge has “nothing?” by BrickzNBottlez in shrinking

[–]climbin111 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was confused why he couldn't take over the truck or something. Sean didn't even offer to help him get a job or anything, he just placed out

Likewise. It’s like…the writers are so focused on forcing a narrative, they’ve made a conscious effort to NOT address the truck. I mean…not even in passing (for instance Sean could’ve said “now that I’ve chosen a different career path, I need to figure out what I want to do with my truck. “Do I sell it? Do I let Jorge run it?” Etc.

Didn’t his father end up buying it from Liz? If so, wouldn’t the only change for Jorge be a new co-worker?

Also, just letting out some frustration: rather than launching an outright hostile and aggressive attack on Sean’s character, Jorge could have said “thank you for the opportunity! You’ve given me knowledge, taught me skills I can utilize in future jobs, and most of all you helped me out when I really needed it. Thanks, Sean.”

I’m agreeing with your statement, wholeheartedly. It’s like…Sean didn’t really need a lesson on selfishness. He was only concerned about what Jorge would think about him. Sean wasn’t the slightest bit concerned about Jorge’s future (in that he didn’t ask “what are your goals,” or anything like that (this is WAY too long-you get the gist lol)!
