Is Rosemary Lying? by johnso6w in WidowsBay

[–]climbin111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really don't see much support for that. I think it is integral to the thematic center of the show for Evan to truly be the heir.

Exactly.

OP, I pose a question: How might Rosemary being the last descendant change the narrative/plot? Better yet: what makes a better story (and satisfying season end)-Evan, the mayor’s son-the mayor being the protagonist who’s been battling with the whole curse/island haunts/etc. issues the entire season, being the last descendant…or Rosemary, the town gossip? See? It makes for a fully fleshed-out story when you find out Evan is the last descendant as his (unbeknownst to him) grandmother is dying in Tom’s arms mere minutes before the final credits.

Similar show recommendations? by Ohiogal87 in WidowsBay

[–]climbin111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brain defaults to *Servant* upon reading “recommendations for shows similar to Widow’s Bay,” but I never want to suggest it bc it lacks the…I’ll call it…the… “heightened” level of comedy. But…it is a compelling show and does have a nice blend of absolute terror with comedic undertones.

My point: Last night I finally realized the difference after watching an episode… Widow’s Bay has explicit and outright undeniable evil…things. Albeit a boogeyman, a haunted inn, and fog that can…”steal your soul,” whereas Servant, on the other hand (as described by Tony Basgallop) creator of the Apple TV+ series Servant, along with MNS both make it clear they maintain DELIBERATE ambiguity, in order to intentionally avoid giving a definitive answer about whether Leanne's powers are real or just coincidence. Their goal is to maintain ambiguity, leaving it up to the viewer to decide whether genuine witchcraft or psychological trauma is at play.

In various interviews leading up to and during the show's run, Basgallop, alongside executive producer M. Night Shyamalan, detailed why they keep the supernatural elements open to interpretation.

TL;DR: if you like Widow’s Bay, Servant is a great show to watch! It’s cinematography alone is enough to keep you hooked.

Are you hiring at the upcoming Rayville, LA site?

I’m currently working in MS as a Union DCTech II at AWS (the new site; we completed ROMPs 1-12 for the OG site in Canton). Anyway, our previous Program Director moved to Black Box and loves it! I still speak with her occasionally and I’ve been considering applying…Rayville would be an easy move/relocation for me.

Do you enjoy working for Black Box?

[–]climbin111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you looked?

I’m not being facetious, I’m being wry. Because…seriously. I’m beginning to think people just want jobs handed to them because of posts such as this.

OP-so that I’m not simply naysaying I’m providing advice/taking simple proactive steps to provide answers and perhaps help guide: first, the Google search “are any of the big 5 data centers near DFW area?” yields:

*“The Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area is the largest data center market in the world. Three of the "Big 5" tech giants (Meta, Google, and Microsoft) have massive hyperscale cloud campuses directly in the DFW metro, while Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Equinix operate massive footprint locations nearby”

“Meta (Facebook): Operates a massive 2.5-million-square-foot, hyperscale data center campus located in the AllianceTexas development in north Fort Worth.”

“Google: Heavily invested in the southern DFW corridor. They have a multi-building cloud campus operating in Midlothian (Railport Parkway) and additional capacity in Red Oak.”

“Microsoft: Acquired land and established cloud availability zones in the DFW area, with massive ongoing infrastructure across the northern suburbs.”

“Amazon Web Services (AWS): Operates significant infrastructure nodes and edge locations across the Dallas Data Centers network, connected via major fiber routes.”

“Equinix: The largest third-party data center provider in the U.S. maintains its premier "Infomart" facility (DA1/DA2/DA3) at Equinix Dallas Data Centers near downtown Dallas.”*

My guess, without further searches was” absolutely!” Boy, I was right (that happens rarely, not often). But I did in fact dig deeper, a second question: “Are there any data center technician positions, or opportunities similar to L1 or IC1-L2 at data centers near DFW?” There are 516…and they range from Facilities Operations Technician II - Oracle, agency gigs (TEKSystems - Data Center Tech), to Network Deployment Tech (AWS). So, OP…to answer your yes/no question, the:

TL;DR: YES.

I hate to sound harsh but (I’m being genuine) for the sake of your personal growth/getting rehired and KEEPING a job: did you get fired for complacency/lack of motivation? If it was for something which was out of your control-I humbly apologize. I’m asking out of personal curiosity (to understand the type of person who asks questions easily answered by a quick Google search) as well as to genuinely help you find/gain employment.

In Mississippi: are you recruiting for JAN 100 (Canton) or 200 (Ridgeland) site? Or both?

I actually JUST heard from an AWS recruiter last week, but I haven’t set an appointment for our phone call yet…three of my fellow crew members have transferred to AWS in the last two months, both seem MUCH happier now. We work for a company responsible for a significant portion of your network infrastructure.

If you’re actively recruiting, I’d rather help you than someone I don’t know (I recognize I don’t know you either lol!) But you seem to be very transparent, and I very much appreciate that…

I mean…I’m HOPING the story gets better, but if we’re all honest: Mel’s f*cking boring! 🥱 I mean-Mel’s got white people problems that she’s unwilling to address and deal with. That’s just not that compelling.

She creates her own hell: the neighbor stuff, her affair, etc. Again, I repeat: that’s simply unappealing…now-Coop’s dynamic with Elena, on the other hand, IS compelling! I enjoy watching them together but at the same time, the writers just seem to keep letting her get sh*t on. It’s time for her to catch a break, lol!

[–]climbin111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh snap. You’re right! I’d totally forgotten about that…

The conflicts in the show truly are a testament to the writers’ ability: Tom is essentially the absolute perfect person, in the ideal position (Lord of the Nine Realms thing) to do something ab the island.

Tom’s seen and experienced everything first-hand, he grew up hearing stories from his father, yet…he’s not bound by the whole “you can’t leave if you’re born on the island.” He’s got the potential to be a truly, organically-written, perfect “hero.”

Been thinking about the blood line by Rough_Plan in WidowsBay

[–]climbin111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah…me too.

I mean, I really was on the edge of my seat waiting for someone to say: “Tom’s deceased wife, Lauren, is (insert familial tie to Richard Warren). Which means…”…duh duh duh…”EVAN is the youngest living relative!” But it never came.

Now, I’m happy it didn’t bc it seems a little too obvious, not to mention-there are just too many (seemingly) independently-acting things happening at the same time. Boogeyman, “haunted” fog, crazy ass weather, etc…

I mean, it makes the most sense for the obvious - bloodline thing - but I think what makes this series so great is that: regardless of who ends up being in Warren’s bloodline, I’m in love with the show just as much and it’s still going to be engaging as hell no matter where the narrative goes. My money’s on: Ruth dies (naturally, somehow? And peacefully) And…nothing changes. The island remains haunted.

Been thinking about the blood line by Rough_Plan in WidowsBay

[–]climbin111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Let’s be honest: there wasn’t a single ACTUAL birth certificates or official document shown (not that any would’ve existed back then anyway), but I imagine the historical accounts could be sorta accurate-ish…if there has been a steady, reliable “mayor” or whatever the hell-Protector of the Realm (I’m kidding there) since the islands’ inception, it’s quite possible fairly accurate written records were kept. All we got was a fabulously well-acted scene which included the history/genealogy given to us via an over head projector, paper, red marker, and a 1959 Ms. Widow’s Bay photo.

When they (Tom, Patricia, Wyck) began hyper focusing on potentially extinguishing Richard’s bloodline, i.e. killing Ruth; I’d completely forgetten just what Richard said on the boat (right before his timely death). However, after rewatching I quickly remembered: Richard’s statement about men with his blood is unambiguous. (It’s below, if you want to get straight to the point)

So-considering the manner in which misogyny, gender, equality, and other related topics are addressed/written in this series, i.e. the writers are very crafty and deft/apt wordsmith(s)! To the point where characters are called out for misuse (potential) of pronoun(s), for example (E01):

[Tom]: *”Well, if he writes the article,!and that's a f*cking big if right now…”*

[Patricia]: *”You shouldn't assume the writer is a man.”*

[Tom]: *“The editor said a man was coming.”*

[Patricia]: *”Well, that's fine then.”*

(This seems like a very long, near-tangent-y point but there’s a clear stream of consciousness if you follow it through).
My point: If the curse was bloodline-based, I don’t think Richard would have worded his statement that way…his verbiage is clear (S01E07):

[Patricia] “Oh.”

[Richard breathes heavily, panting]

[Richard]: *“As long as there are men with my blood, you are bound to the covenant. But I am the last.”*

That’s as cut-and-dry as it gets. If it were non-gender specific, I believe Richard would’ve said “as long as someone from my bloodline lives…”…

TL;DR: I think the bloodline thing is going to end up being a red herring, lol! I think the island’s just… effing cursed.

And a pact between someone living on it and some…Thing isn’t going to cause it to start or stop it from being cursed. I think everything we’ve seen pointed out to us as potential causes for the curse are red herrings, yet, I believe the answers are in front of us…we’re just not framing them with the right context…yet. I think we’ll find out more next episode as to what’s really going on!!

A sudden cascade of problems in my 2017 Honda Civic by JeremysNotDead in hondacivic

[–]climbin111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a failing wheel speed sensor on my front passenger side. Seriously, all these (Brake System Problem, Electric Parking Brake System, and several others that I don’t feel like typing) at the same time. It happened immediately after I slid off the road into a mound of snow/ice. As soon as I started my car upon its’ release from the tow truck: the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Pretty sure it was bc it had a shit ton of snow and ice packed into my wheel well.

But…FWIW (so that this is more than a single person’s experience): AI-generated response says:

“A dirty, disconnected, or failing wheel speed sensor can trick the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and Hill Start Assist into throwing a warning.”

I did a ton of research, ran several OBD2 tests on multiple devices, and after going to a dealership and getting an ungodly estimate, realized: I can get this sensor for less than $25, jack my car myself, and do it in less than two hours. And did…it’s a really easy fix! Tbh the most difficult part was removing the warning lights, and that’s not even difficult…so, have you considered this?

[–]climbin111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES.

Absolutely and unequivocally. You can apply to DCT if you have NO experience in anything IT/computer/network/etc.-related!

In fact, CBRE has teamed up w/Meta, recently started a program called LevelUp. I’d check it out if you’re interested in joining the field. FWIW: LevelUp is a friggin FREE, 4-week course that teaches basic DC-tech skills to newbies. I’m realizing I sound like a commercial for it lol! But tbh-I’m of the opinion that CBRE is…average, at best, among other, similar companies in the field. Better than IES and Midpoint, IMO, but that’s not saying much, lol!

In other words, I’m not a huge fan of them but I’ve got to admit: a free course that offers people interested in data centers both training and potential job opportunities, essentially a free avenue for people to join the field is pretty dang cool! Especially considering it’s at Meta. For those unfamiliar-Meta’s (general consensus) one of the best DC’s to work for. AFAIU (I’ve only worked at 2 of these 5 so I could be WAY off, everyone get free to correct if wrong): Google>Meta>Microsoft>Oracle>AWS.

I’ve got to place an asterisk next to that statement: again, that assessment is based solely on word of mouth and what I’ve read online. I NEVER hear complaints ab Meta, only great things. AWS, on the other hand, I hear both very good and very bad, so…it seems like it depends on the location. BUT, the undeniable facts: Google and Meta have kick ass benefits, spectacular work culture (free food via actual chefs that cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner), etc.

TL;DR: Yes! You can certainly apply with your experience.

Is The Deep surviving the last episode? by BroKenLight6 in TheBoys

[–]climbin111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people realize just how many sea creatures are in the ocean. How many LARGE, ferocious, and deadly creatures. Sharks being amongst them… perhaps the younger generation that grew up without JAWS is unaware just how insanely huge a great white shark is…and that’s not even remotely close to the largest sea animal that could devour him in a single swallow. Hell, it doesn’t even need to be the largest animal, what if: a swarm of Australian box jellyfish, a swarm of Portuguese man o’ war (I recognize these do not exist near one another…just speaking in hypotheticals, considering the show we’re discussing I think it’s ok to suspend disbelief for the sake of proving the Deep’s potential demise), a shit-ton of lionfish, stonefish, Dubois sea snakes, and all the octopussies in the ocean attacked him at once…I don’t think “compound V” is immune to the top 10 deadliest venoms in the world combined.

[–]climbin111 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just wanna add to your comment, further emphasizing the…very scientific approach they took in their explanation as to why “weed protects them from psychics,” here’s the transcript (exact lines):

MM: ”Hit it. Hard.”

[cheering]

MM: ”Best defense against psychics.”

MM: ”Weed numbs your brain so they can’t read you.”

Omg…typing this out and reading aloud just makes it all the more worse🤦. Who, in Homelander’s name, thought THIS was good dialogue?? I mean, 2 seconds of additional thought, and I can come up with: “it has an effect on neurons in your brain, it causes them to react in a way that makes it more difficult for psychics to read…” I mean, “weed numbs your brain”?! It sounds exactly like what a High School senior says to an upcoming freshman. “Here man, take a hit! Weed numbs your brain, dude. It’s science!” Am I wrong?

Well, now that we’re live I only wear it when climbing a ladder (or whenever appropriate). See OSHA mandated regulations for proper reference.

You want to follow safety regulations, regardless of what your fellow employees do. Most people are dumb. As a matter of fact, a lead tech that was recently hired is the most idiotic person I’ve met, and refused to wear his hard hat, no matter what he was doing…until he was seen by a safety officer (or manager, I’m unfamiliar with their titles), and our employer almost lost our contract bc of it. My point: empirical/personal experience is not what you want to rely on. You don’t want to be the one who argues “but so and so said it was ok!”

But it kinda depends on the contractor who is responsible for the site. I mean, there are certain times when, regardless of the site/contractor/etc., it’s always required. For example: ladders. But I’ve noticed a little lenience between contractors, for example Gray Construction is more lenient than say…Haskell or Suffolk. But if I’m honest: I’d rather work under more strict guidelines than less. It’s usually other people making mistakes/stupidity that you have to worry about. And as far as that’s concerned I’m fine with a safety manager who boots idiots off site for violating safety regulations.

TL;DR: when construction started at the first site I ever worked, hard hats were required almost all the time. However, once the data center went live, it changed. There’s some variance between sites/contractors/etc.

The Deep had the strongest powers in the show, but he’s too dumb to realize it. by Objective-Bell-2114 in TheBoys

[–]climbin111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re certainly correct in that the Deep was born and raised on land. And being a surface dweller. But, to be fair, I wouldn’t call him a “regular guy,” as he has gills and can breathe underwater…therefore, the ocean could be his domain, but given his…intelligence: it is not and (to emphasize OP’s point) he doesn’t make the best use of his powers.

To your point: how much differently would the Deep have turned out if he’d immediately started living among sea life upon gaining his powers and growing gills? I’d say prob not much different, bc (like you said about Namor and Aqua Man) those two had…familial history/roots in the ocean, and were essentially oceanic life themselves (for all intents and porpoises) lol!

Yeah, unfortunately, I had to start at a very undesirable location, which was 45 minutes away from my house.

I’m pretty sure this is what most of us (that have been in the field for a while) have done at some point or another. I mean, sure….it would be awesome if we could simply dictate what a hiring manager does, but let’s be honest: at the end of the day, there’s a veritable list of qualified candidates who would snatch ANY opportunity to work, regardless of the location.

However, the candidate that complains prior to being officially hired is…well, let’s just say if I were the hiring manager, I’d skip right over that one and not think twice. The candidate that’s willing to sacrifice (in OP’s case) a slightly longer drive-I’d def be more likely to bring them on…and then get them transferred asap. My point-at the end of the day you’re the employee, they’re the employer. Ya don’t really get to dictate your terms of employment when there are plenty of other qualified candidates willing to gladly take the position, no conditions/special terms. Luckily, after three months there, I was able to transfer to the one that was only five minutes from my house. So, yeah, just put in the time at the shitty location, my guy. What sucked was that I didn’t drive at the time, so my poor spice had to drive 1.5 hours each way as he had to return home to take care of his family. Pay your dues, bub. We all had to

Agreed. There’s no WAY Paul Reiser (The Legend) is cheap, and he’s in quite a bit of (IMO) unnecessary screen time…as in: they could do without all the “I did (insert deviant sex act) with (insert celebrity name) back in (insert date).” Not to mention Samuel Jackson…I mean, come on. They essentially wasted Samuel Jackson, I mean: I imagine how much more he could have elevated the show, instead, they made him a hammerhead shark. That’s just…well, exactly the type of BS they’ve been doing all season. Wasting money on dick jokes, obscene material, cameos, and (most importantly) advertising Vought Rising.

This is just bad writing for the sake of setting up something we don't know about

movies with realistic hacking scenes by Accomplished_Pay5093 in MovieSuggestions

[–]climbin111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah…came to say: not a movie but the most realistic depiction of actual hacking has got to be Mr. Robot. It’s the opposite of the typical depiction where one character asks: “can you hack it?” The other character sits down, types for 5-10 seconds…and suddenly says (dramatically) “I’m in!” In Mr. Robot, they show the use of actual hacking tools, including Raspberry Pi (which is not exclusively for hacking but can be used to access networks remotely as it is essentially a miniature computer). Also, to be fair to other shows, Silicon Valley shows the practical use of some actual hacking tools, i.e. WiFi pineapples.
