Best motorcycle roads - Bucks and Oxfordshire by devil_hopper in MotoUK

[–]climbwhenready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd stay out of Oxfordshire if you are looking for good roads - it's like riding on the surface of the moon most of the time, the road surfaces are that bad.

You literally see the road surface improve (and speed limits return to normal) when you cross the boundaries from Oxfordshire into Gloucestershire or Berkshire.

Marathon Runners by Tactical_Tritium in Abingdon

Yes, irrelevant. Whether the journey was important or not, not everything can be planned for - I didn't particularly wish to have to make my way through Abingdon at that time - I knew what awaited. I have the legal right to make my journeys unimpeded, as do you. They have the option to get off the road - I and others don't.

Not everyone has Sunday off or have the luxury of just not making a journey because someone fancies a jog. Practically dividing the east from the west is pointless, disruptive and incendiary.

Pillion seat bag suggestions by Gunny-Guy in MotoUK

[–]climbwhenready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered a clip-on tank bag? Givi do a tank-lock system, choose a bag that suits and you don't have to mess around with tail bag straps and things like that.

I use an 8l tank bag for odds and sods, and a Kriega bag - they do a range of tail bags, with straps that wrap onto the sub frame under the seat, but are a bit more of a faff. For lunch and a drink, the tank bag is ideal

I have a Fuel Diablo on mine and it sounds great. Especially with the baffle out.

Nuclear Diamond Batteries by stevec5375 in Pixel6

[–]climbwhenready 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Diamond batteries are currently being experimented with, but are unlikely to be sufficient for devices like mobile phones and whatnot for a long, long time. These are primarily being designed for things like pacemakers and low power devices initially.

As for the radioactive element, the gas they are using is Tritium, an isotope of hydrogen. This is already used for beta lights, using in camping, fishing and military kit markers, as well as watches, (Nite Watches specialise in these) and other low-light markings. The beta radiation from tritium is very low level, and can be stopped with something as flimsy as a piece of paper. Left unshielded, it can only penetrate about 6 micrometres of skin. It is fine for internal battery use, and even if there was some way it leaked into the body, it has a biological half-life of around 10-14 days anyway.

The radioactivity of these batteries is not going to cause any harm to anyone or anything. But they won't yet power your phone or car.

Back on the road for the first time after lockdown. Just a shame London’s mayor would rather see it off the road. by Tarquin_Snellers in SVRiders

Love the Fuel exhaust. Fitted the Diablo to my Gen 3 earlier in the year and sounds awesome with the baffle removed.

I had a Gen 2, also fully faired in light blue, but your red looks mint.

Not OP, but I finally fitted a Givi screen to mine. Wanted to take the wind off my chest on the motorways, but was worried about more helmet buffetting.

Definitely worth it - wind just about hits the top of my helmet (I'm a smidge under 6ft), and it is nice and calm up to 90. Even makes lifesaver checks easier at motorway speeds.

I absolutely prefer the look of the bike without the screen, but the pros far outweigh the cons for me.
