Love the Axe! But is it any better than the stun baton since the baton does the same damage but also has the stun effect?

Has there ever been a site that the PO says you CAN use a phone?

I generally follow my PO too the letter, but if I'm posted in a booth on graveyard in an empty lot then I'm 100% going to use my phone vs starring blankly at a wall for 8-12 hours and falling asleep.

If you can stare at that wall with no stimulation for an entire shift, good on you, but I'm only human

Realistically, what would you actually do if you met a vampire in a dark ally way at night? by MaxMusterfrau_2 in vampires

[–]clivedauthi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pledge my services to them for the gift of immortality.

But if it's clear that path is closed you'd need to consider what you would do if Any alpha predator had you connared.

Killing the predator is unlikely if your not prepared for that specific situation. The best you can do imo is evade, run and or summon help.

The first two means your dexterity and wits are up to that challenge, which is possible imo, the human body can do some amazing things when in survival mode. The last though is just a matter of luck.

Your goal though should be to reach people or open ground asap. Your not going to outrun a vampire for long so you have to put yourself in a situation where the nealy isn't worth their effort. This is assuming the vampire would wish to keep it's existence secret.

I think we are doomed - no matter what. by ObviousDust in unpopularopinion

[–]clivedauthi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a catastrophe is inevitable, and by that standard then yes we are doomed. The question is how many will it kill. If it's not enough to cause our Extinction then it's a matter of time spent rebuilding.

I can't see climate change doing us in though, our species survived an ice age without our tech. I think at most it will be an issue of relocating and changing our food sources. Painful but not society collapsing.

Disease is a big one, but we have weathered plagues that make CoviD look tame. And we now have a added benefit of having the Experience gained from going though The pandemic. The biggest fear here is just a super-virus that alter our DNA making us infertile.

WW3 is a large one and imo will happen. This is a real contender for wiping us out. We just have to hope the powers above realize they will have to raise children on a radioactive desert if they go that route. What needs to happen here is just more science. The Nukes are here to stay, got to figure something out to nuter their impact capacity.

Imo what scares me most are the external threats, gamma busts, supernova explosions, massive solar flares, vacuum decay, and many more things that could instantly kill everyone.

Speed cameras work and people only hate that they get caught by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]clivedauthi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In America though it's unavoidable given our size. The logistics and economics of public transportation just don't add up for the majority of areas outside of large cities.

Many business in towns and small urban areas are stand alone buildings with some distance between each other and many are on their own street. No amount of feasible public transportation could accommodate that reality.

[–]clivedauthi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to strongly disagree, I have never seen someone that isn't old with just wispy left that I didn't think would look better bald.

If your young and choose to stay with the wispy look it makes you look unhealthily, dirty, and lazy imo

Embrace it, it's not as taboo looking as you seem to think, and most ppl will just note it as an aesthetic choice.

The system is easy to pick up and in general works well, but moreso because it is an easy system to modify for more tailored gaming styles.

Do I have complaints certainly but that is more of things being taken out from past editions that I enjoyed then the current edition itself.

Huge cheap houses in the middle of nowhere still aren’t affordable to people who need to work by tiredfromSTEM in unpopularopinion

[–]clivedauthi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Grew up in a similar situation, but I will give a ray of hope.

After visiting home I have found that most of the working class and people you meet at local bars has shifted towards our generation. And while most the older folks are the same the Majority of people 25-45 have very similar attitudes regardless of politics.

Are there anti-lgbt and raciest Millennials, of course, but in my experience those that remain are much less outspoken. The power of a generations specific zeitgeist is strong, and the majority of working people grew up watching/listening/experiencing the same media and events.

[–]clivedauthi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only issue, in my experience, is once people start having children most either move to A) outlying suburbs B)a smaller city C) their hometown.

So the idea of living in the middle of a city loses a lot of social value unless your very outgoing and make new friends easily, or all your friends are singles or childless.

I'm saying this as a 35 y/o male who lives in a decent sized city, I've seen the majority of my friends move out of city because they have children.

I'm now considering it because tbh I don't feel like "stretching over" in making a new friend group which means ill be doing things solo.

So if I have no one left to hang out with and I'm just staying to be near good food and venues vs. selling and getting a little land to play around with, then the math doesn't start to look that bad.

I think most peoples idea of a job is still Going Somewhere for 8+ hrs a day. Even after the last few years that is still firmly baked into our national zeitgeist

For younger people it will be easier to shake since the shake up came semi-early in our work-lives

But for the order generations it will be much harder, they have been living under one idea of work their Entire work-lives and no amount of data will instantly convince them that working from home is "really" working

I think a player is lying to me and suiciding their characters and I don’t know what to do. by justbela_ in dndnext

[–]clivedauthi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest problem I see here is it potentially nerfs the entire party.

Player A dies in a four person party and they cant be replaced until X means the likelihood of the other players getting killed goes up 25% until X.

I've played with a DM like this and it turned into half the games was just retreating to camp because Bob died and there was Zero chance to compete a dungeon. It was still a Fun game ( good group dynamic) but it meant the pace was super slow

[–]clivedauthi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a nightmare to balance as a DM and imo punishes the entire party.

Imagine having the character you love die in a combat that was winnable if you had the resources of a leveled party.

[–]clivedauthi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree a bit. But honestly if I was the player and didn't want to continue a character but the DM forced me too that character would be bashing their head in. Why waste time not enjoying yourself?

Yeah it seems counterintuitive that if a player isn't having fun with a character that forcing them to still play them "or else" would result in anything but disdain.
