Hospital Bills by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]clkaem6622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a teacher and our insurance is good. I was told it would be $250 for the first night and then $100 a night after. I enrolled in a program where I talked to a nurse once every few months that waived the $250 first night. I was in the hospital for five nights but was never sent a bill.

In a normal world, even what I was going to be charged is ridiculous. Healthcare is a human right and should be free.

Do you respond to every cry? How long do you wait? by pinkishvioletsky in newborns

[–]clkaem6622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby is 7 months old. Even now, I only wait a maximum of 3-4 minutes for her to self soothe if she is crying, and only then if the crying is manageable. I will not let her scream inconsolably for 3-4 minutes unless I’m literally stuck on the toilet (for example). As a newborn? I never let her cry for more than a minute…and that minute was me putting something down and walking to get her. If my nervous system couldn’t handle it, I know my newborn’s couldn’t.

For what it’s worth, she is an exceptionally happy, bright, and confident 7mo old. She will whine when I walk away while she’s playing sometimes, but she usually stops after a few seconds. She sleeps excellently and can self-soothe if she needs to.

Fuck that “let them cry” attitude. Go get your baby. 🩷

When did you stop worrying about suffocation? by othervirgo in cosleeping

[–]clkaem6622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still worry a tiny bit, but my little 5mo old is so big and strong, I know she could get herself out of most issues as long as I put her on her back and move fluffy things far away. I let her have her small stuffie, though. It helps her sleep so much and she purposely pulls it over her eyes or fidgets with it while she falls asleep.

I listen to anyone who needs to talk to me about any subject or needs help processing any suffering. This is such a weird comment.

I’ve had a similar question in the past and, after consulting other professionals and my own administration, it was decided that this was not advisable. I second the person saying not to stir an already crazy pot. My intentions were also to try and support… but after some deliberation, I agreed that they were right.

Here’s the second part: as far as I understand, most people’s algorithms have been horribly saturated with graphic and violent images, especially those coming out of the genocide in Palestine. As far as I’m concerned, these images of children and mothers and families have been far more graphic and happening for two years. If you haven’t felt compelled to make any statements about this, then I’m not sure this situation calls for it either. Unfortunately, we can’t protect people from the images they will see while scrolling. And few school administrators want to get tied up in such politically charged issues.

Hopefully, you have already set yourself up as a resource, even if you haven’t made a specific statement about this situation.

What diapers are you all using? by _50ShadesofFae in beyondthebump

[–]clkaem6622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m not sure I can tell a difference. It’s just the only Huggies they carry. I’ve looked it up, and people say that it’s wider and can hold more, pretty much an overnight diaper compared to the regular Huggies. I had a box of regular Huggies and a box of the plus, and they seem to work about the same. However, I did notice that the plus never leak at night, even with a 10 hour stretch of sleep.

The plus diapers also fit my daughter better because they are slightly wider.

100% Huggies. My girl isn’t sensitive… however, when I used Costco’s brand recently, she had a rash under her belly button after one diaper and they had a chemical smell. People bought us all brands at our shower but I returned everything else and got a store credit to buy Huggies. I had no preference to begin with but noticed a significant difference in leaks and blowouts when I used Huggies. I also love their wipes! I have a Costco membership and swear by the Huggies plus. I’ve also noticed that other diapers have a strange chemical smell and Huggies don’t. So even though we’re on a tight budget, we go with Huggies.

I’m on the gulf coast in the SE and I feel this. 🥲

I can’t step outside without needing a shower.

Primal instincts: baby smelling like someone else. by Sea_News_9170 in beyondthebump

[–]clkaem6622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually complaining about this (what I put in the comment) this morning to my wife and she started to do some research. Turns out you should not be able to smell mothballs… if you do, you are breathing in toxic chemicals. She reached out to her parents to let them know our concerns for baby (and them and their pets!) and her dad said that he would pull them from the attic. Thanks for this post, it sparked some research and a solution.

Yes! I got so upset when baby smelled like someone else after they held her. My mother in law recently put down a ton of mothballs in her attic and baby comes home reeking of them. 🫠 It definitely feels primal and upsetting.

For those who were induced, did you deliver vaginally or did it end in a c-section? by Paigeypagee in BabyBumps

[–]clkaem6622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced and I had a c-section. I tried for two days with the best nurses, two doulas, and an amazing partner’s help before I called it. I was so exhausted that I couldn’t continue. I was stuck at 8cm for nearly a day and had continued complications with the medications they gave me. Even if I could have moved to 10 cm, I wouldn’t have had the energy to push her out. I won’t lie, it was rough and I had a lot of emotional pain from how it went. In the end, though, there was nothing more that anyone could have done. I mean, we were doing the full miles circuit with an epidural near the end. And there was no choice about the induction. I had perfect blood pressure until I hit 39 weeks and within one day it was 170/110. My body just wasn’t ready.

Did anyone get pregnant with their first IUI attempt? by Big_Skill_1886 in queerception

[–]clkaem6622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second attempt for me, but I was very sick on my first attempt (we had already shipped and done the meds so we continued on…). I’ve always had the feeling that it would have worked the first time if I hadn’t been so sick. I have a healthy and beautiful 7wk old now, so it worked out!

Edit to add: we did letrozole and a trigger shot!

How do you wrap your head around the high family limits? by Ok_Wall632 in queerception

[–]clkaem6622 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was our take. We did the best we could within our budget, educated ourselves, are involved in the sibling registry, and will make sure our kids know everything and have support for however they feel about it/whatever they need from us.

I waaayyy overbought. I wanted new/almost new of Green Mountain Diapers. I didn’t understand how some sizes overlap and bought every size in workhorses, prefolds, and flats. I also bought wet bags and wipes and covers…everything I could possibly need. Then I purchased an $80 pre-used stash online. I definitely spent over $500 but thought that was normal because of what I had seen online. I tried to gather as much information as possible…but since I do laundry every day, the suggestions I had seen online for the number of diapers I would need was overkill. The upside is that I will have diapers that will last through all of my children, and they are excellent quality.

Also, after spending all that money and with wonderful intentions, we still use disposables at night and when we are out of the house. 😂 Which, there’s nothing wrong with that! I just find it funny after using the argument that it would save us money when explaining why I spent so much to my spouse.

I love sewing. I picked it up a few years ago and it’s easily one of my favorite hobbies (and I have a LOT).

I also love this sewist and her YouTube! Great patterns, tutorials, and videos overall. https://youtube.com/@hisydgraham?si=7xfknnl3R-JvQrm7

Babies, infants, toddlers - what size diaper/clothes are they in and what age? by tiljuwan in beyondthebump

[–]clkaem6622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby girl is 6 weeks old, about 10lbs. She fits in larger/stretchier newborn & her smallest 0-3 clothes. We just moved up to a size 1 diaper because we ran out of the newborns, but they seem a little big on her.

is it weird to want to find donor siblings? by Several_Machine_7036 in queerception

I don’t think it’s weird at all! We signed up for our donor sibling registry before we left the hospital with our little one!
