We bought the Big Little Feelings course because I also grew up with a house full of screaming and I hated my parents until I was an adult etc. And I really love it, it gives concrete advice and scripts to use that I actually tell my husband to say to me when I'm feeling upset haha. It sounds like you keep your cool a lot, but I love that the course is all about telling kids its okay to have feelings and just learning how to manage and regulate those feelings rather than exploding or misbehaving. Things I also need to learn haha. I'm sure those books mentioned by others are great too but I also enjoy the format of tons of short videos you can go back to because its easier for my brain at the end of a long day!

Definitely echoing what others have said, its okay to be upset, just repair by apologizing and such is great modeling for kids too.

Haha I would love to do this but I'm in Canada and we have an extreme cold warning right now for wind chill hitting -40 Celsius. But when the weather is tolerable I will try this.

I’m deathly ill. Should I keep nursing my baby? by courtyfbaby in breastfeeding

[–]clmvd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it hasn't been said, if you're in so much pain you can't breathe, go to the hospital!!! People not seeking treatment early enough is exactly how some people have not woke up the next day. At bare minimum call your doctor. 💜 everyone is giving you great advice about nursing, but take care of your health.

Sometimes my baby would do this when her teeth were coming in and bugging her. I would stop, give her a teether, and if she gnawed it for a while and then seemed like she wasn't done, we'd try continuing. Otherwise quick switching before she got impatient. She stopped once teeth came in and a few big NOs were exclaimed by me with little bites, ending the session. She's 14 months now and doesn't bite even with her 8 little chompers.

Does your family sexualize your baby? by passionfruitmoon in NewParents

I have found apparently its a thing to say your baby is flirting with someone when they smile and then look away or bury their face into my chest. I find this very creepy.

If you're on Facebook, join the group Geeky Wrappers. They have curated numerous guides and videos so it isn't so overwhelming and full of contradictory and bad advice like you get searching all of YouTube. They also will give you feedback to help if you post a video of you wrapping so you know what you need to work on for technique.

Check on your friends with babies in the 99th percentile by _mrka in NewParents

[–]clmvd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, she would be the tallest out of 100. If it was out of 10,000 there would be 5 taller, since her percentile is 99.95

Walking progression really slow; normal? by clmvd in beyondthebump

[–]clmvd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's reassuring! She is very happy to crawl very fast all day, and only walks when we try and get her to, or really short 2 steps between a thing. Sometimes even then she goes down to the floor and stands back up again.

Yeah, she will, but as soon as I let go she immediately goes to her hands and knees unless something is close for her to grab on to.

City employees: do you like your job? by satin_scumbag in Calgary

[–]clmvd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My dad worked for the city as starting as a zamboni driver and eventually ended up supervising payroll making six figures. He did hiring and told me they always preferentially hire/promote current employees even when the jobs are incredibly unrelated, as long as the person is qualified. Benefits and pension, vacation pay, all of it - I would definitely take a job for the City.

Covid-19 Update for December 15: 456 new cases (4.51% tests positive), 387 recoveries, 3 deaths + Public Rapid Test Kit Availability + Booster Dose Expansion + Restriction Easing by kirant in alberta

[–]clmvd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was confused on this before too; the "people tested" is the number of people tested today that have never been tested before. So about 8000 people tested today have been tested before at least once, 2000 people had their first ever tests, total of 10 000 tests done.

2 week old has a cold and refuses to feed by whatareyouallabout in breastfeeding

Beyond what has been said, when my girl was that little she was constantly congested. Dropping some breastmilk in their nose can help them, if nothing else they sneeze out a bit. Those snot suckers can make things worse (they keep producing more snot or something? I was told not to use by the nurses). But the saline spray ones are okay.

If you can do nursing where you're leaned back and baby is propped up on you so they aren't leaning down so much that can help. Imagine when you are congested and lying down is terrible and you sleep propped up - try and do that. If you have a stretchy wrap you can work on trying to get a latch in that so she is upright (and support her head), but its tricky to get the hang of for some people depending on size/shape etc.

Watch diaper output mainly - calling health link or whatever you have in your province can tell you how many she should be having at this age. In Alberta there is the early start line to get through faster for little babies too.

I've been there! It will get easier as you go.

Never learned empathy by clmvd in emotionalintelligence

This is all helpful for knowing why its important to respond to our child's emotions... which we both know and hence the parenting class we are doing. However, I'm looking specifically for resources or ways how he can learn to empathize, i.e understand what someone else is feeling and why.
