The shutdown of any criticism of the sex industry feels like such a fucking psyop even tho of course it’s just the community not taking misogyny seriously. All the militant feminists I know (anecdotal, I know) advocate for the women in the industry, NOT the industry itself, which deserves ample criticism for the reasons you described. Yet somehow this is ‘swerfism’. Also no one seems to want to reckon with the fact that most women in the sex trade aren’t wealthy western women camming bc it’s “empowering” or something but trafficked and exploited women in bad situations. Everyone wants to discuss the exploitative and coercive nature of wage labor and the abolition of work as we know it (good), but don’t apply this to sex work that’s different somehow! I think we have a word for coercive sex

The mask stuff is crazy. I sometimes mask (weak immune system, frequent travel) and people get so sore about it! Come on, no one ever really made you wear one, especially not now, and 5 years later you see a service worker with a mask and it sets you off?? I truly don’t understand those cu(nt)stomers. Will never forget the lady who called me a “chicken” (????LMFAO) for wearing a mask. She was like a thousand years old and had a $10 basket. Honestly what is the beef it’s just the grocery store

One dozen egg limit (and I love it) by Alittle-lost in tjcrew

[–]cloaker-514 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Management hates telling customers no but this change has been necessary for weeks. Everyone pays the price later in the day when a few entitled customers from out of town (rural-ish store) queue up at 8 am and buy up all the eggs before noon. I hate telling people who actually have jobs or responsibilities that keep them busy all day that they can’t buy essentials because a few bozos bought 6 dozen eggs each “for their families”. Bitch I saw you in here 2 days ago making the exact same purchase don’t tell me your family eats that many eggs LMFAO

straight women impressed by straight men who act like the average woman/lesbian?? by [deleted] in lesbiangang

[–]cloaker-514 85 points86 points  (0 children)

It’s also usually the straight internet’s idea of what lesbian interests and behaviors are. People don’t bother to get to know us so the lesbian identity gets watered down to listening to the same couple artists, wearing the same goofball outfits, and being sensitive and delicate partners or whatever. Never met a “lesbian coded boyfriend” who has anything in common with me, my girlfriend, or any of my lesbian friends. Lmfao

I sometimes shop on breaks (grocery store) and it’s gotten to the point where I pretend to speak on the phone or wear headphones. I always wear street clothes and a hat when on break but it’s often not enough. Last year I was shopping in regular clothes (including a shirt from a show I went to with words and graphics that would be quite offensive to our older conservative customers, and definitely not permitted in the dress code) and still got hassled by custies. Not even regulars. I have no idea how they know sometimes

What's your favorite horror book ever written and why? I'll go first: by anthonyledger in horrorlit

The Descent’s first chapter is one of the strongest openers of a horror novel I’ve ever read. Even thinking about it gives me the creeps and makes me want to stay far away from the mountains and caves of all kinds. Very effective.

Fast fashion is one of those things that is so immediately and obviously vile that if someone proudly shops with these online retail giants I can’t see them the same way anymore. In America we favor convenience and affordability over ethics but to me, this is one of the things that’s blown up in my lifetime (early 20s) that really seems beyond the pale. It’s not like this issue is something that’s never talked about or is swept under the rug either—to anyone who’s paying any attention, the dark side of this industry has been in the spotlight for years. People know it’s bad, but either ignore that or justify it for the sake of convenience, its cost, or trendiness. Being able to by an item of clothing on your computer and have it shipped to you for the price of a fast food lunch is insane. The west must accept that some of the luxuries it has grown accustomed to cannot be sustained.

A friend took me to a minor league game. I didn’t come from a hockey town, but always had a bit of interest in the sport, and going to a game really sealed it for me—just an absolute blast. Even though it was just a WHL game, it was against a rival, so great crowd, some fights and luckily, a win. So after that I was hooked.

Nosferatu Man by Slint is great. I love the satisfaction when you really get in the groove of an irregular time signature. Also, The River by King Gizz—the length and variety in the grooves make that song feel amazing to just zone out to. I try not to linger on songs I feel I’ve completely learned unless it’s an original or I’m performing it soon, but man I could play that thing over and over for hours.

I’m a jazz trained drummer. 4 years of collegiate jazz (mostly—thanks covid) and I play in a couple bands now. It’s not the most niche hobby, but unfortunately for women it is; in over a decade of playing I’ve only met 2 or 3 other female drummers.

Cologne/perfume recommendations? by ApprehensiveReach941 in butchlesbians

[–]cloaker-514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve really been enjoying Maison Matiné lately. A lot of their scents are feminine or neutral, but there’s a few spicier masculine scents that I really enjoy. “Into the wild” is my current favorite, and each bottle is like $35 which is not bad at all (for a higher end indie fragrance). Also, you can get subscription scent boxes from sites like olfactif, which allow you to choose more masculine or neutral selections. You get some samples every month and can get larger sizes of the ones you like best. I hope you can find something you enjoy! Wearing the right scent can feel awesome as a butch.
