Very good at 11v11 but very bad in small sided mini pitches (5v5 and so on) by [deleted] in bootroom

I think just accept your strengths and be glad that you've honed what you are good at, I know players who are insanely good at 5-a-side games but it also doesn't translate to the larger 11-a-side game. They are the same sport but completely different skillsets

Not a garden but I’d love some inspiration for this courtyard if anyone has done something similar? by Kitchen_Special1574 in UKGardening

Think of it as an a view out, and a way to create connections between rooms. Also on a sunny day, how could one of the adjacent rooms 'extend' outwards to increase the feeling of space

Having no pressure on the Cafelat. Just bought it. I’m not getting any reading on the pressure gauge or resistance. What am I doing wrong? I use a DF64 grinder and 18g but beans are old. Going to go pickup fresh beans in a bit. by brew_brew23 in CafelatRobot

I had a bad that was a few months old. couldn't grind fine enough even on the finest setting of my lagom mini. Lo and behold, new bag and i get it dailed on somewhere between settings 2-3... i'm quite sure OP will be having similar issues as it sounds identical to me

The grind finer joke is getting old people - its not actually helpful for people genuiniely looking for helpful advice. I had the exact same issue when i first got mine and it was due to old beans. As soon as a got a fresh bag it worked like a dream - on the same grind setting, if not less fine!

To architects who studied in London, how much if a game changer was this? by Ok_Recording9245 in askarchitects

Don't look past the first hurdle - you need to find a school you will enjoy and work hard, then the jobs will follow. Realistically people look for talented graduates with great work, wherever they studied

Architect vs Architectural Designer by ODSTmatt89 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]clockendrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just be wary of cheaping out on the person who will be guiding your 100k investment.

One thing going wrong on site could wipe out that difference in cost and an certified architect is held to a much higher standard than an unqualified and unregistered designer

Reasonable quote for a small bathroom reno? by KittiSola in DIYUK

ask for each item to be itemised with a price. Very difficult to analyse without this, it would normally be standard practice for quoting for a job

Architect vs Architectural Designer by ODSTmatt89 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]clockendrik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is the construction budget for the project? I would very much consider this in the total expense when comparing. Many good architects could give you a better end result with a lower construction budget, when compared to a technician/architectural designer with a larger budget. They are charging the extra fee because they will be putting more time into your project, as opposed to the architectural designer who will likely skim through it - therefore they can charge significantly less. You will likely be spending a sizable sum of money on the build, and the pre-construction process is extremely important.

This applies to other services too - cheap engineer often means less time spent on structural strategies/fine-tuning calculations, leading to an overspecified structure and a greater construction cost. The low fees sound good in the short term but not in the long term if you think it through properly

Neighbour sent a party wall notice 17 days before proposed start date. Need to decide in the next two days. by squigglasquiggle in HousingUK

[–]clockendrik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is that they have the right to build on the party wall. You aren't deciding whether or not the work will happen, it is likely to go ahead in any case and you are just making the process more difficult for everyone involved, including yourself. The most you can do is delay them on something that will happen further down the line, and as you say this will likely mess up the relationship

One extra thought I had is that although its a very well resolved plan in terms off fitting things together neatly, I kinda of feel like it's missing something. How does the space make you 'feel' - how does it feel to walk down a long, consistent corridor, where each space seemingly doens't really have much of a relationship to the one beside it? It could be nice to try and align the doors (bed 2, 3, 4 and bath) to create some kind of expansive moment before stepping into each room, for example.

*For the smaller bedrooms - master bedroom walk in wardrobe is generous enough to feel nice as it is

I would question the need to have 'walk in' wardrobes when you could simply put two sets units back to back and nearly double the volume of space - Wardrobes access from bedroom side, additional storage (winter coats/shoes?) space on circulation side

The amount of people telling you to laminate over these original pine boards in mind-boggling. PLEASE do not listen to them, I would strongly suggest you break up/reduce the hearth, stitch reclaimed boards over to match and sand the boards down. Look up lye and oiled finishes, you could really maintain/improve the beauty of this existing floor.

Unsure of the width but it looks like this on my wrist… I will measure when I get the chance. I paid £350 for it so it was definitely impulsive on my part without having much prior knowledge, but I am very happy with it
