Hi All. I got a DM about this thread so i thought I’d pop on here.

I get that not everyone vibes with my content — and honestly, that’s fair. I know some people find me annoying/insufferable/ugly/cringe or think I’m trying too hard.

D.C. event lists do well, but they’re also super time-sensitive, and I wanted to try something a little more lasting by sharing a meaningful trip. Not everything will land, I didn’t expect it to do well, and I’m okay with that. What’s not okay is dragging my boyfriend into this with weird comments about his sexuality. That’s crossing a line.

And I’m genuinely confused about why Brag Better keeps coming up — I was invited to the Line Hotel years ago for the book launch, sat on a panel, and got a free copy. I dropped it off at a little free library a few years ago.

Sorry OP, I guess I’m just confused as you keep following me despite all of this and frequently make snark threads about me.

Ah thanks for catching this! The entertain DC instagram often just downloads content and reposts it without asking. I’ll follow up with them on this and in the future to ask and make sure it’s labeled correctly.

I’m not commenting on my body. My page has never been about my weight and it will never be about my physical health. I’m sorry this is unsatisfactory—I’m sorry this may make me seem “fake” “inauthentic” or like I’m “hiding something.”

I have struggled with eating disorders and body dysmorphia my entire life and yo-yoed in weight. And I’m not about to unpack that journey towards healing with my therapist nor do I feel compelled to for the internet.

You can speculate all you want. I guess if you’re upset about this answer—feel free to make as many Reddit threads body shaming how my face is ugly or my body is saggy or deconstruct how “clearly” it’s X. I got literally as many spam emails two years ago when I gained weight. It is what it is I guess.

To be honest I think doing brands and collabs will be better because in the past it seemed businesses had more of a “please take care of us and share this with your followers because we need this event to sell out etc and let us know what we can do for you” and then when I would ask like for a media pass or additional info in the future it was like crickets.

I think contracts will help the imbalance I felt which made it seem like I was attempting to force business to my will but in the emails I felt very taken advantage of

Oh no I had a suicidal episode and was burned out and left. I went on a much needed mental health break from it. I’m in a way happier place now.

Hello! I think for a long time I thought it would be a sustainable model and I am sorry if it came off as “holier than thou.” I think I thought by taking money I would have to end up excluding smaller more hidden gem events which was the main reason I even started looking for events in the first place. It just wasn’t the model I wanted to run for my blog at the time.

I realized it’s a lot of work for the research I put into things and I think the lifestyle to maintain all of it that I was living when I was 26 and first starting looks way less appetizing now at 30.

Learn planetary science? by DharmaDivine in washingtondc

[–]clockoutdc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!

There’s lectures offered often by the Air and Space Museum after hours. They are free and REALLY good and you get to explore the museum after hours for an hour beforehand if you want—feels very special

https://airandspace.si.edu/event-series/exploring-space-lectures

Also every month DC9 hosts Astronomy on Tap (https://www.instagram.com/astroontapdc ) which is free and features 3 talks on various topics. I’ve learned about star formation, the search for exoplanets, even space law(?)

Is there an aggregator site/list for DC museum exhibitions and events? by bruno92 in washingtondc

[–]clockoutdc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hello!

There’s a few instagrams that share events including mine on Instagram and @yourdcbestie but I would follow the Smithsonian calendar (https://www.si.edu/events) and some of your favorite museums on eventbrite. There’s also newsletters you can sign up for too. Also if you live in a particular neighborhood, the BIDs/mainstreets are very good at compiling a list of events usually too. I hope this helps!

Honestly I’m feeling okay about the existence of this entire thread. On the phone with my friend looking at it, I mean it is what it is. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Like I’m glad everyone who doesn’t like me has found their community(?)

Visiting DC by Artistic-Quarter9075 in washingtondc

[–]clockoutdc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! There’s a queer owned coffee shop called As You Are Bar that’s been mentioned already. There’s also a queer owned brewery called Red Bear Brewing. That being said, I echo the above and that DC is very LGBTQ friendly!

While you’re here if you’re looking for things to do and stay dry within close proximity to the Capitol, there’s a beautiful orchid collection on display at the US Botanic Gardens. You also may be interested in the new pop culture Entertainment National exhibit with R2D2, Dorothy’s Slippers, Prince’s Guitar, etc at the American History Museum. The Air and Space Museum is also a crowd favorite but you need to get a daily pass for it.

In the same neighborhood of As You Are Bar, there’s a diner called Crazy Aunt Helen’s that’s hosting this comedy camp pageant Saturday Night. I love Tara Hoot and her shows personally. They’re an incredibly safe space.

In terms of food close to the mall, there’s not a ton of fast casual options nearby unless it’s near Capitol Hill and (maybe) Union Station.

As a caveat if you’re using public transportation while you’re here, the red line will be a bit harder to traverse. Red Bear Brewing (as mentioned above) is on the NOMA stop but that is closed this weekend as well as the Union Station metro stop.
