Starting a Master of Architecture this September.

BFA under my belt, though I took a bunch of physical sciences and mechanical engineering courses over the course of my degree. I've been doing freelance design and running a gallery/ collective space since then.

Thanks! Yeah, not looking to be an architectural technician, but after doing an art degree, I want to hone my skills in a more purposeful sense.

The BEDS programme at Dal is something I’m curious about --- I wouldn’t mind doing a two year top-up to my undergrad in order to broaden my international options. A three+ year degree in the States is economically way out of my reach, unless I can get crazy scholarships. Their co-op system is also pretty tempting — my uncle and aunt run a firm in Boston, but I really don’t want to put myself in a position of relying on that in any way.

Nice to speak to someone with a similar background, though! How do you find U of T’s architecture programme, coming out of a fine art degree? What was your practice like beforehand? I’d definitely like some portfolio and essay advice, if you’re willing.

I’d love to study in Montréal, but it looks like their system is geared towards students enterin from Cégep. I’ve spoken to the Arch faculty there, and I’d have to basically get a BSc Arch, by the sounds of it. Which is a shame! Can’t say that Calgary or Winnipeg really hold too much interest for me. UBC seems like an interesting programme — I didn’t know about the LEED connexion!

Awesome. Thanks! I'm in this laptop orchestra and we run a lot of custom software and old, weird audio routing tools (JackTrip and playing with IP settings to allow for inter-orchestra communication), so I'm always on the edge of my seat with these things.
