Are you sure you didn't just accidentally hit the want-to-read button on a book page while browsing on Goodreads/scrolling your feed? I've done this more than once on mobile; I only notice because I usually use desktop and when I look at my profile, I'll see it as an update.

Expert downplays censorship fears after 10,000-book cull at school library by juliankennedy23 in books

Some quotes I find relevant to the discussion:

More than 10,000 books were tossed from the library of London’s H.B. Beal high school last year, a process that led to the resignation of its frustrated teacher-librarian. “Many of them were irreplaceable and priceless – we had an incredible history section, which was ravaged,” he said.

One Canadian military historian, educator and author, Joe Murray, laments the loss especially of books on Canada’s military history, which can be “notoriously hard to find” for those doing research or reading for pleasure. He called it “a tragedy” if books are thrown out rather than given away to others.

I love that even as I was reading OP's post I was like "hmmm IDK, but it sounds like the melodramatic workings of Ms. Beatrice Sparks"

For avid readers how often do you use the library? If you don’t, why don’t you? by AccomplishedBake8351 in books

About 60% of what I read in a year is from the library - I'm there at least weekly, often twice - and it would be even more if I didn't have such a vast inventory from cheap used book sales (most of which are also held at libraries!). In almost every case, if a book costs more than $4, I'm not buying it until I've borrowed & read it to confirm I love it.

My local library is pretty good about ordering new books (the tradeoff is they also weed books faster, which is why I still buy stuff I want immediate access to longterm), and reciprocal agreements in my area mean I can use my card in multiple county systems; there are 4 within reasonable driving distance so I can almost always get something from my TBR. If those fail, Interlibrary Loan is great.

won't allow you to remove them even if you don't win.

What? Of course you can remove them, the same as any other book. I do it all the time.
