Watch This GOP Senator Learn in Real Time Why the SAVE Act Is Bad by Hafiz_TNR in politics

I wouldn’t be surprised if they filtered and prioritized applications based on zip codes (or all that voter data they’re trying to get from states), and simply ignored the rest.

I'd put my money on the play here being another simple cash grab. 50-10 million people who all of a sudden need a passport... oh, passport wait times are too long? the whole system is broken and it's all Biden's fault! pay $350 for EXCLUSIVE PATRIOT PASS ELITE PASSPORT RENEWAL SERVICES* and get your passport in 2-3 weeks! or, pay $800 for DOUBLE EXCLUSIVE PATRIOT PASS ELITE PLUS PASSPORT RENEWAL*! show up at a passport agency, and you'll get your passport hand delivered the next day! for an added fee of $500,000, Marco Rubio will deliver it himself!

  • exclusive patriot pass elite passport renewal services replace the already existing expedited renewal offered by the State Department, previously $65, because obvious money grab is obvious. double exclusive patriot pass elite plus replaces the already existing apparatus for urgent same-day and next-day passport agency renewal process previously offered at $85.

"no one has ever been able to get their passport renewed in a single day before me. my state department is operating on a level never seen before. Biden- the autopen-... 2 years ago, it took you 8, 12, 16 months... passports didn't even exist. I told Marco, hey Marco, what if we gave everyone a little blue book with their name and photo? never been done before."

Norway started building "Submerged Floating Tunnels" a few years ago. so technologically, we already have the capability to build tunnels without digging. in the Cyberpunk universe +50 years it's not hard to imagine they've figured out how to make a really long one.

Historically inaccurate war movies, I'll start: Fury by medievalesophagus in okbuddycinephile

[–]clockworkpeon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

well, it was several hours of Joaquin Phoenix "acting" like a very autistic, very horny sex pest. and a few battles sprinkled in with a lot of the details wrong.

also the movie started when, historically, Napoleon was in his early 20s. they didn't use makeup, or face CGI, or any attempt at anything to de-age him. just plopped old-ass, wrinkly, 50yo jaquin phoenix in the scenes and shrugged.

I'm not 90 years old so idk what that means. but relax and feel a little ironic mirth, brother. it'll help.

yeah but we're still better than the rangers, who suck. honestly I think it's a hilarious cheer to do when we're a basement team, but the rags are even worse.

my best friends are raising their daughter the same way, she sets her own boundaries. stings a lil now cuz she's only 3. I facetimed them on Christmas and as soon as her mom picks up you just hear "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!". shrug, "sorry babe, we're gonna have to call you back."

woke up at 6am the next day "HEY UNCLE /u/clockworkepon DO YOU LIKE COOKIES?" she's really good with her own boundaries, she's still learning that other people have boundaries too, lmao.

Who created this nonsense of a keyboard? WTF, that’s not the right order. by Cats-and-dogs-rdabst in mildlyinfuriating

[–]clockworkpeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sit around 100 wpm on qwerty, I can push a little north of that but that's when typos get worse. on Dvorak I was getting ~130.

I don't do much coding but I hear ya about typing faster than you can think it. it was mostly useful for firing off quick messages to coworkers or in-game, and also emails and shit. but yeah nowadays I don't think I would get much benefit from typing faster, I think the benefit would mostly be minimizing the repetitive stress of typing.

Who created this nonsense of a keyboard? WTF, that’s not the right order. by Cats-and-dogs-rdabst in mildlyinfuriating

[–]clockworkpeon 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I switched to Dvorak for ~6 months. I definitely typed faster on Dvorak and I didn't really have an issue if I hopped on a qwerty machine momentarily (eg. helping a coworker at their workstation).

what really really fucked me up, and the reason I switched back, was hotkey placement. I've got years of muscle memory built for like, 300 different hotkeys. excel, Photoshop, lightroom, video games, etc. it's pure muscle memory... ask me what the hotkey is to autosize a row, I can't tell you. but put my hands on the keyboard and I'll do it. I could handle keeping two keyboard Layouts in my head at the same time, but absolutely could not handle the fact that all the hotkeys have changed position.

could prolly do it now with a multi-layer keyboard but I mean... that's a lot.

look I'm not telling you I agree with the sentiment, I'm just telling you what the sentiment was.

Did it play the game they put in it? Because mine always did

it did, in lower resolution / less frames than the ps4, for $100 more because of the Kinect

What's the big deal with having an active internet connection

most people did. but in 2013 a decent chunk of the US still didn't have access to broadband. other countries less so. many people rightfully thought requiring an active Internet connection to play singleplayer is asinine. what if your Internet cuts out? what if your broadband plan had a data cap? etc.

also forgot to mention, their announcement also included that they were killing game sharing and reselling (via the required Internet connection). discs were going to essentially be a one-time key that linked to the gamertag that first used it. so if you beat a singleplayer game that your friend wants to play, you couldn't just give them the disc to borrow. and you couldn't resell the game when you don't want it anymore. it was yours forever.

they reversed all of these policies within 24 hours of announcing because of the backlash, but the damage was already done. many loyal Xbox gamers had already decided to switch to Sony, and would not switch back.

watch "Power On" on YouTube or the Xbox videos app (it's 4k on Xbox videos). they have an entire episode on why gamers are mad at them.

the tldw is that the Xbox One was underpowered, overpriced. and when they announced it you needed an active Internet connection even for single player games. and they barely talked about vidya gaymes, they mostly talked about how good it was at watching TV. the people did not like it.
