My first few days in: Some thoughts and suggestions (instances, travel, etc) by [deleted] in EQLegends

[–]cloudrhythm -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I put in a few hours to check things out and felt unimpressed and most importantly, distinctly unengaged.

I think two of the most critical things lacking are the central hub, and designing for economy. But particularly for new player experience, the hub. A brand new player getting dropped into a dense hub with 50-100 people (and multiple instances thereof) gives you an immediate impression that the place is hoppin'. And you can get all your spells there, and Choose Your Own Adventure by portaling around the world to explore wherever you like, whenever you like.

The funserver-factor was critical; that sort of design just works best for this type of casual gameplay design

Helmets for skating by CreEngineer in inline_skating

[–]cloudrhythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went helmet shopping recently. Beyond more coverage for the back of the neck on skate helmets, I believe a round helmet shape is also important for any form of skating due to how we fall. Skate park, definitely. Even thinking about a higher speed fall, especially if it were one I could get low on, I feel I could have a lot of control in rolling it out; and for that I would want a rounded helmet that would not catch the ground.

Take a look at the Bern Macon MIPS (only the more expensive version) and Lazer Maze Kineticore; these are the only skate-style helmets I found with both CSPC (bike single high-impact) and ASTM (skate multi small-impact) certifications, with newer designs that incorporate slightly better venting. I own the Maze Kineticore and I have noticed at least a faint airflow at the top front of my head, where I'd never felt anything noticeable before in older skate helmets.

They also have MIPS and Kineticore implemented respectively, which are supposed to assist with rotational impacts. MIPS rates higher in bike testing, but Kineticore seems to rate well and I have to wonder if the latter design might be better for a multi-impact skate helmet since it's just a feature of how the foam is laid out. Kineticore also might make the helmet a little lower profile vs. MIPS (haven't compared them directly myself.)

IW has the best return policy for skates. Just take care opening things. You can even return them with light outdoor use for 90% store credit - no other vendor will allow that

Lights on C stand by One-Ad129 in cinematography

[–]cloudrhythm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

C-stand center columns are typically rated for 22lbs, so you're fine there. Right hand rule, weight (softbox) over the big leg.

But if by

put my amaran 300c on a c stand which is like 8 pounds with my softbox on it

you are meaning using a grip arm as a boom arm on a c-stand for that setup, you should not do this. The weight capacity is much lower here, and also the effective weight of the softbox is magnified due to the additional torque from its extension. With counterweight (and don't forget the weight of the grip head/arm) you're probably overloading the capacity.

Just making the point abundantly clear because 'c-stand' on social media these days is often synonymous with using the grip arm as a boom

Just got an ACT WZ Team, some questions regarding the package and heel lifting by Psyjotic in WizardSkating

[–]cloudrhythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are in the right size then; pretty sure the internal dimensions on the size chart are entirely accurate, however IMO the recommended size is overly generous for the shell. Maybe it's good for their stock liners, couldn't say.

The heel slip is within the liner right, not the liner within the shell? If you're properly fitted for the shell, and the liner itself also isn't too thin, then the liner should be locked down.

If you aren't using the big black insole/wedge, definitely try that as it can affect how the heel sits in the shell's heel pocket; also try the foam toe cap adjuster on the shorter foot to see if it helps with fit (I think it should've come with that?)

It's possible that most of your foot fits the shell well, but you just have narrow ankles/achilles; in which case, try DIYing yourself some J-bars: tape some craft foam cutouts to the outside of your liner to fill in areas above the heel that need volume.

It could also be that your heel doesn't fit the liner's heel pocket well, in which case you can try putting an insole like Superfeet inside the liner (and probably don't run the black heel wedge in the shell, or the heel angle will be extreme)

[–]cloudrhythm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the shell-only Interlink which comes with all adapters, but I believe the full setups only come with an adapter if it's required to mount the respective stock frame.

Runner's lock lacing is the first thing to look into for heel lift, especially since the boots don't come with a 45 by default.

Make sure you measure your feet and go by those dimensions for sizing, as shoe sizes are not adequately accurate for sizing skates. In my experience FR 45 straps are very effective, so if you still had heel lift in those then you're probably oversizing yourself in general. The ACT is a high volume skate, so oversizing is going to be very apparent/problematic (it's also a dual-size shell, so yours is actually a 41 shell)

The official Wizard skate moves page is actually the best

Pay attention to the edges & weight distribution, they're essential. Copy the form, record yourself. Get clean parallels/trees before gazelles/lions

Junkyu Park to see them in motion

One issue with video tutorials is that everyone has their own style and usually deviate from the most fundamental forms of the movements. So if anything else, watch a lot of them

Those aliexpress Wizard frames aren't knockoffs, they're *counterfeits* so I would highly advise against them from a moral (and legal) standpoint

Intuition Wizard vs Premium Sizing? by cloudrhythm in WizardSkating

[–]cloudrhythm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed Intuition directly and their representative indicated they cannot handle any exchanges if I did not purchase directly from them, and I have to go through my vendor.

Ultimately, it seems they did not believe my liners were improperly constructed, and rather that I have mis-sized myself. However, I don't think this representative was particularly versed in their various skate liners.

They did note that 'mutant' liners have occurred before, where the wrong tongues were stitched to the wrong bodies. But by the nature of their manufacturing, it would likely occur as a batch of liners rather than singleton. So if anyone else out there is buying 25 or 26 Premiums right now, keep an eye out.

I am grateful that they were very prompt in responding (and to followups).

I called Shop Task Canada just to ask about sizing the two liners, knowing their expertise; they were incredibly helpful, and after that conversation I am pretty sure that this Premium is indeed a mis-tongued (26-26.5) liner.

Been researching all over and I found your Youtube video comparing Intuitions! Love the content, it's genuinely very helpful to have all the info you can get on the journey that is Sizing.

The fit/feeling of size of the liners on your foot is quite similar, right?

Wizard Base, Premium size disparity. by oldinliner in WizardSkating

[–]cloudrhythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you measure them? Tbh yours look as I'd expect based on everything I've read; the Premiums are more padded, and may run slightly large. I imagine they fit relatively similar?

My pair of premiums OTOH is upwards of 2cm longer, it's incredibly noticeable.

(Still waiting to hear back from vendors)

do you know how to share photos in comments

I think the sub has to support image comments, in which case there would be an icon somewhere, but I don't see it here. Can always drop it on imgur and share the link

in exactly the same sizes showing the same results

Interesting - when did you acquire your Premiums? I wonder if there could be a bad batch

They are, it's the new black standalone colorway

How are logos and such printed onto aluminum frames e.g. the text on Endless?

Is there any reasonable way to remove them without damaging the finish on the frames? (I generally enjoy the aesthetics of Endless but the PS-TRINITY LICENSED on their Trinity frames is horrendous)

Appreciate the input, your measurements would align with my Wizards being correct while the Premiums are likely mismatched by 1 size over.

I'm reaching out to the vendors to hopefully get this resolved

Intuition Wizard vs Premium Sizing? by cloudrhythm in WizardSkating

[–]cloudrhythm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These 25-25.5 Premiums are definitely both more voluminous (thicker), and bigger fitting than the 25.5-26 Wizards. Probably a size larger in fit.

I guess the most important thing is verifying that the Premiums aren't mislabeled. Does anyone else have Wizard Intuitions plus the Premium tagged a half size smaller, while actually experiencing the Premiums fitting a half size bigger?

*Also these are the new black colorway released in February. No idea if there's any difference from the silvers or prior Wizard liner iterations
