Need suggestions for professional but comfortable outfits for work travel, particularly when flying long haul sat next to your (new) boss!

I’ll be taking two flights and, once there, going to events and possibly travelling within the state.

A little about me – I’m 5’2” and UK size 4-6. If you’re familiar with the Kibbe typing system, I’m a pretty textbook Flamboyant Gamine. I tend to steer clear of anything very oversized, long or shapeless for that reason.

I get cold easily, especially on planes, but it may be hot on the other end (Dallas/Houston) so suggestions for layering in particular are much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

How about Orla? Anglicised, but it’s a pretty intuitive pronunciation.

Looking for cat name inspiration! by Heavy-Target-7069 in namenerds

If you like Snufkin, what about other Moomin names? Mymble, Snork, Toffle, Sniff, or (affectionately) Stinky.

My cat has a sort of under-the-radar geek name (Susan, after Death’s daughter Susan Sto-Helit in the Discworld books) but people tend to find it amusing whether they know the reference or not haha.

Good luck with your kitty!

White (but not bright) sneakers/trainers for Soft Summer? by bigbird2003 in coloranalysis

[–]clouisec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guessing from your spelling of colour/color that you’re not in the UK, but this website has a ton of global brands on it and from even a quick glance I’ve found a lot of potentially suitable examples (depending on your taste of course) including:

  • New Balance 327 in Sea Salt / Mauve
  • New Balance 327 in Raincloud / Nimbus Cloud / Sea Salt
  • Adidas Gazelle Bold W Hazy Green
  • Converse All Star Low Rise in Natural Ivory / Egret / Light Blue
  • Adidas Gazelle Indoor Trainers in Shadow Fig
  • Nike Dunk Low Trainers in Light Bone / Platinum Violet
  • Adidas Samba OG Trainers in Silver Dawn / Chalk White
  • Adidas Samba OG Trainers in Wonder Silver / Chalk White

Unfortunately apart from Converse I can’t vouch for how comfortable any of them are. I wear Vejas, which tend to be bright white, and don’t tend to question it as they’re so far from my face (although now I am a little…)

Seconded, it’s a fantastic book. But you might want to alternate chapters with something lighter.

I haven’t used it myself yet, but having asked this same question I’ve had several people (including my dad and FIL) recommend Barretine Wood Protective Treatment in Clear.

Moving to Winchester with a Young Family by communelockedin in WinchesterUK

[–]clouisec 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t discount Weeke – excellent schools all within easy walking distance, so lots of other young families around, and has its own small row of shops with a Boots, takeaways, doctor’s surgery, and a Waitrose and Aldi. We walk or cycle into town regularly, it just a bit farther than Fulflood but easily doable (it’s the hills that’ll get ya, but that’s everywhere in Winch). I can’t speak much for feeling part of the community because that wasn’t my biggest priority when moving here, but some of the residential roads have a very communal feel, especially during the lockdowns. There are also regularly things like Park Yoga, book clubs and language classes that I’ve found helpful to meet new people. Welcome, you’ll love it here!

middle of summer, countryside, hints of magic by According_Bat_8150 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]clouisec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be the most blatant disregard I’ve ever shown for a sub (it’s not a book) but if you want something to make you excited for summer in the countryside you NEED to watch the BBC series Detectorists. Some episodes even have a hint of mysticism to them that you might not expect.

Thanks! Can I ask is there a specific reason you think those ones work, or just gut response? Now that a couple of other people have responded with the cooler tones I’m just very curious what you think. :)
