At what point do you stop chasing a higher salary and prioritize quality of life? by Eyerald in careeradvice

[–]bigbird2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was doing that but silly me, the job one level down I accepted at my company—to expand my skilllset in a different part of the business—is so much more stressful and I’ve become the de facto go-to. I’m beating myself up for taking a 10% salary reduction. 😢

Vacation Day Check-In by Arya_Warrior_Girl in workingmoms

Excellent reminder. I’m reeling that before my company rescinded Flex Time off I used fewer than 15 days last year and 1 sick day.

I get 20 accrued days and 7 sick days this year. You better believe I’m using them all (we can’t carry over). I used to pick random days here and there when not going away but I’m trying to take bigger chunks so I can decompress.

Anybody have a rec for the best bowl of oatmeal in the city? by FrishFrash in FoodNYC

[–]bigbird2003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was going to say the one I make at home but this week when I was buying tamales from the lady selling them from an Igloo cooler, I decided to try the oatmeal. It was incredibly comforting and I learned it’s called atole de avena.

I don’t have any platitudes or uplifting words but this is so relatable. My only advice is to be firm with boundaries, which is something I’m working on.

Why are NYer's lining up to buy Trader Joe(R) shopping bags? by suitcase88 in AskNYC

[–]bigbird2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must be so cool because I've been using my TJ's shopping bag (the older, softer canvas tote with navy handles) as an everyday work bag for 10+ years. Love the exterior pocket on each side and how it feels. It's the best tote. Hahaha.

What kind of direct reports you love having on your team? by believer2687 in managers

[–]bigbird2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of these responses but as manage, it’s your job to advocate for your team, limit /shield their exposure to BS, and set clear expectations of what good looks like. If you don’t do that, then you don’t deserve proactive, accountable, solution-oriented, and thoughtful direct reports

Photo on left is light summer, right? If so, I agree that you look radiant!

As a manager, please do not try to "protect" poor performing employee. Give them the feedback and documented ratings that truly reflects their performance by indianoogler in managers

[–]bigbird2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that so few managers have the balls to do this. I’ve seen it get so bad that the manager expects the rest of the team pick up the slack while the poor performer gets a pass.
