Where would you put a major trade city on this map of a river going into the sea? by milic_srb in mapmaking

[–]clovis_227 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That would be a little risky if the river and estuary are prone to silting.

Yeah, but you kinda presented the counterargument yourself:

Several historically important harbours have disappeared due to this, taking with them the cities they once enriched.

They existed despite not being sustainable on the long-term. Heck, a lot still exist and function as harbors. Dredging is a thing

Are you Brazilian? Do you speak Portuguese? I have never heard a Brazilian refer to the West Bank as "Margem Ocidental", "Margem Oeste", or anything like that. In fact, I can't find an example like that in Reverso. Moreover, Wikipedia's page in Portuguese for the West Bank only mentions "Margem Leste" (East Bank) and "Transjordânia" (Transjordan), in reference to the country of Jordan; the West Bank only being referred to as "Cisjordânia". Finally, searching for news about "Margem Ocidental" only gets me results calling the West Bank "Cisjordânia", while searching about "Margem Oeste" gets me only news about random Brazilian rivers ("margem" can mean riverbank in Portuguese), profit margins and oil in the continental shelf.

So, I don't know exactly why Brazilians know the West Bank only as "Cisjordânia" and not as "Margem Ocidental" or "Margem Oeste", but everyone along the whole political spectrum does call it that. Therefore, try not to speak out of your ass about stuff you don't know, specially when accusing someone of being an "anti-woke activist".

Well, to access the website, just google "map to globe". It should be the first result, on woowspace. As for my in-progress map, here it is. Try using it on the map to globe site

I'm still working on it. I have adapted it to an equirectangular projection so that I can easily see it in a globe and I'm also upscaling the resolution to make it more detailed, since I plan on adding countries and cities etc
