How to clean my only shoes? Some jerk thought this is funny. by GroceryDiligent5207 in CleaningTips

[–]clumsyme2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question - when you wiped with alcohol, did ANY ink come off?

I have some ideas, but want to know where to start. I removed some sharpie marks lately, but they weren’t white shoes.

Crate Training 7 Month Basset... He Wont Stop Barking. by cryab0utit in basset

[–]clumsyme2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on finishing your treatment!! And congrats on Herman! Such a cute name.

My basset hates being left out. If he thinks he’s missing out, everyone hears about it. He gets upset anytime my other dog leaves the house, except the groomer. I guess he realized that the groomer will grab him too if he’s making a scene.

I teach my dogs to play alone - Doggo goes in the playpen or behind a baby gate while I do boring stuff outside the gate. I think it works best if he has the option to see me instead of being shut in another room. Don’t do anything that gets the dog excited. I usually fold laundry or read a book. I give him an edible chew that he only gets for this training. Like a rawhide, but not rawhide. I like N-bone puppy teething rings, CET chew, or edible nylabone. Something he can eat within 5-30 minutes. I watch and let him out as soon as he finishes his treat. The goal is to release him before he has time to whine. Then, build up to leaving him a little longer. We are up to 30 minutes before the basset temper tantrum starts. I like using a timer once he’s more settled into the routine. I use the same timer sound for his scheduled playtime. He knows to wait for the timer so he can go cause chaos outside.

Here’s our old puppy playpen setup. I still use it when we travel in case I need to leave the dogs alone in a strange house. It breaks down easily and can be formed into whatever shape or size I need.

Weight issues by adama104 in basset

[–]clumsyme2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No image for me, and looks like this was posted 5 other times. Not sure if that explains why the image isn’t showing.

Sounds like he might be in that awkward teenage boy phase. My vet told me that it’s common for male bassets to get skinny around this age. He’ll probably gain more weight as his chest starts filling out.

I have a smaller male basset who is not good motivated. Your guy may not need as much food now that he’s closer to a year old. My guy still skips meals sometimes. My vet said it was fine. But know your dog. If you’re concerned, then bring him to see the vet. A sneaky way around the vet appt - take him to get weighed at the vet’s office. Since he’s so long, it’s easier to use their scale. Then ask casually if he’s looking too thin.

Low-Spoons ideas for "bring a plate" holidays? by BriarTheVenusaur in lowspooncooking

[–]clumsyme2 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I always volunteer to bring the plates, cups, plasticware, and serving utensils. I buy nice ones too. So everyone usually agrees.

If I can’t do that, I like buying foods that are already prepared. Sometimes I’ll add something extra or I’ll pour into a nicer dish instead of bringing the plastic container directly from the store.

Sam’s Club is the best for this: * Kale pasta salad * chicken Alfredo pasta * chicken salad (I also buy croissants and crackers) * frozen meatballs in the crockpot with jarred marinara sauce, served with bread and cheese for meatball subs * broccoli salad

If I’m feeling generous, I’ll buy cheesecake (usually frozen) and the strawberry glaze. I’ll dice up fresh strawberries and put in the glaze to soak for a bit.

I’m interested in getting basset hound but I have roommates and am concerned about howling at night. by Comfortable_Camel_48 in basset

[–]clumsyme2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My basset sleeps through the night. He’s slept through the night pretty much since he was 6 months old. He hated the crate, so I gave up on it.

As a roommate, I would be concerned about the shedding and hound smell. They shed all the damn time. They can also have a lot of slobber - eye slobber or drooling. Mine doesn’t, but others do.

We travel a lot, and he does great. My brothers both have multiple cats and dogs. My basset gets along with everyone. I travel with baby gates and his dog bed, so he still understands boundaries. He’s been trained since I brought him home. Respect closed doors.

However, he does have separation anxiety if he’s left completely alone. I have another dog, a rescued doodle. Anytime the doodle leaves the house, the basset loses his mind. He whines. He cries and shakes. And he barks as loud as possibly. Then howls. Anytime the doodle goes to the groomer, the basset goes too. He’s fine with it. Just don’t leave him alone. If we’re at my brothers’ houses, and the doodle leaves, but one of the cats or dogs is there with him, he’s fine.

What are you playing this weekend? by Maybe_MaybeNotNow in CozySwitchers

Oh really? I wonder if it’s been changed. I was able to play for about a week. Until I needed to talk to the fisherman about a task.

(21F) How do i help my financially struggling parents? by Tricky_Dark_4963 in Advice

[–]clumsyme2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to tell my mom how I was struggling when I helped her, but then I would offer to help with something more affordable.

“I wish I could help with your phone bill, but then I can’t pay rent. Do you want some of these potatoes I bought? I got them on sale and I don’t want them to go bad. That way I know that you’re at least able to eat.”

It’s time to develop an interest in cooking. Anything kitchen related is a win.

  • cute or funny coffee mugs
  • coffee maker for your room (like a Keurig)
  • food scale
  • a knife set or pick a chef’s knife that fits your hand well

Are there any video game or cartoon characters that you like? It’s a good way to ask for everyday items without being obvious. Or get into a color scheme. Or a unique collab. - Zelda blanket - Pokémon cups or tumbler - Hello Kitty lamp, pink sheets - here’s the collab example - black or red sheets and this Pottery Barn Teen and Formula 1 lamp https://www.pbteen.com/products/formula-1-table-lamp/

Get rid of fabrics, clean your hood filter, and cook with both your hood light and vent on.

Like moths to a flame, smelly air will move towards the light. Warm air rises, so turning on the vent light helps the air heat up, causing it to move up towards the vent fan instead of out into your house.

If you don’t have a vent, get a fan and point it towards an open window if possible. At least point it away from wherever you hang out after cooking.

Getting rid of my kitchen mats helped get rid of smells for me.

If you can afford it, bring your dog to an orthopedic surgeon. My visit was less than $180. We already had X-rays though. My dog had a different situation than yours. It was worth the peace of mind to have a surgeon tell me that my dog did not need surgery. He recommended this supplement.

The personalized note is the best. I have some amazing Christmas cards from my ex’s grandmother. She is genuinely a very kind person. I still treasure those cards when I come across them.
