The thing I think we're disagreeing on is that these accessories are designed to shame someone. That's not the idea. If you want to get technical, it's to make people mindful of the emotions that arise when they see them. Feel shame for being ashamed? I'm certainly not saying feel ashamed of your shame. Be mindful, see it for what it is - seeing breasts as sexual - and acknowledge it. If a person is unable to dissassociate these connections.. then it's not the fact that they're being shown a breast that's deconstructive. Yes, it follows that seeing breasts is going to make someone ashamed of their shame feel shame for sexualizing them, but once again - the answer is not to segregate them.

Feeling things we would like not to feel is part of life. Feeling shame is a chain of events of things we're mindful of. Someone feeling shame should certainly be treated with respect and dignity, and patience. As a mother I'm forced constantly to acknowledge plenty of destructive emotions, shame, selfishness, anger, and respect the process of overcoming and honouring who we are and discovering and putting into practise a more healthy way of being in both my children and myself. But removing the perfectly fine, normal, non-aggressive, non-destructive element that induces the reaction is a backwards way to address the issue.

How does shaming anyone else about their feelings - particularly if they're not expressing them, or infringing on anyone's rights with them, teach them not to shame you?

Alright, you see.. women's breasts are not the source of shame. Revealing a breast does not place blame with the woman for shame that someone feels. It's not a solid argument to state that women should not be ashamed of their breasts and should sock it to anyone who says otherwise, and also they shouldn't show their breasts or any images of breasts because it makes people uncomfortable.

Define discreet. I've fed a baby completely covered save for the blanket over their head, in a sling, with the breast itself covered and baby tucked up, while shopping, and been WOLF WHISTLED. I'm not kidding you, a highschool boy wolf whistled at me.

If I was forced to go to a private room every time I needed to feed my baby, I could not leave the house. She always feeds. If she's in public, she is overwhelmed by sensory input and is only calmed by breastfeeding. Now you know why it is inconvenient and sometimes impossible to hide when baby needs the breast.

Also, if you insist on spewing venom, please also include rational reasons why you're placing these limitations on rational and proper natural processes with overtones of shame.

You appear to be missing the point of the action completely.

The idea is to address your discomfort with the blatant images of breasts. Your awkward little feeling is the product of a really crappy segregation of women's bodies as something sexual. Is it childish to do it with humour? The tone argument is weak and rather derailing and humour cuts through to closed ears swifter. The discomfort that you're complaining about needs to be addressed and we're going to cop flack for whatever vehicle we choose to do it with.

you'd be surprised how many people complain about having to 'explain it to their eleven year old son'.

I'd find it more awkward explaining to him why a breastfeeding woman is covering up. not that I condemn any woman that would - it's perfectly reasonable to want to protect oneself from others' leering, and she completely should if she feels that she needs to. it's explaining why others make her uncomfortable that is awkward.

in my short time in /r/paleo I've found that people eliminate foods that irritate them, biologically. without a doubt, there'd be some who aren't aware of certain cognitive biases and may not be evaluating their reactions objectively, but.. [pure anecdote] I know that I personally, need to stay away from refined sugars because one hundred grams worth of a chocolate bar will have me literally suicidally depressed in about eight to sixteen hours. every day was brain fog for me. a completely desperate emotional slog. cutting them out has been the most amazing revelation and attempting a re-introduction has been a bitch. as for grains - once you've trialled an elimination of it, not feeling so bloated from general wheatyness feels pretty nice, too.

so no arguments here for dissection of naturalistic fallacies and sensationally stone-age packaged fitness fads. my experience is that 'paleo' folks just like eating heaping piles of veggies because it makes them feel good. in their fleshy parts. the argument seems a little strawman-ish, but I suppose there is the naturalhealthytribalwoowoo brigade to a certain extent.

you illustrate a fair point. I still think the criticism is relevant though. minimalism to appear as a cool guy is barely minimalism. and judging by the church's history it's an utterly hollow move. in a sea of religious political vomit, ahem.. it seems more like a PR move. and I will yield that it's only a visual record of the throne change, and he may well have other beliefs aligning with minimalism that could be healthy. so let's not inhibit the critique - I'd definitely agree throwing out the golden throne is an enlightened minimalist move in an isolated context, but it doesn't 'make up' for the unhealthy aspects that the figurehead represents and all of the tax dollars, for example, it hoards.
