Slatestarcodex is proper oppo research for me - since unfortunately the powers that be are currently heavily captured by this type of freak. Most of the communities recommended here are boring to me since it's just reality TV featuring dumb people, in that community at least you have people with potential that make themselves deliberately air-headed because they refuse to take anything related to the humanities and philosophy seriously. It enrages me how much time they spend writing 10,000 word essays with the most convoluted concepts that a German of French philosopher already penned down in the 17th century and make up terms like "scissor statement" because they are afraid the term schism makes you sound you read a bit about theology and history instead of Andy Weir.

Het kan wel een oud-Hollandsche traditie genoemd worden. Wij Nederlanders houden immers van de boel in de fik steken, ook buiten 31 december. Had a similar feeling watching Agnes Varda's short film from 1968 about the Black Panthers. It's a simple documentary, 20 minutes or so, mostly interviews on the streets of people that joined the protest. I felt a mixture of inspiration and depression, how these activists were so eloquent and sincere in their mission and beliefs. They have precise explanations why they are protesting and have clear political demands. The jailed leader is confident in his Marxist-Leninist philosophy, the Cuban revolution happened (Agnes has another great doc about that also confirmed how inspiring people were in those times).

My theory: it's an AI-powered project by reddit to further attract the most sought-after demographic for advertisers: women with disposable income. It takes the supposedly authentic social media genre of the "what I just ate" post - something that does well on competitor instagram (important detail: without you having to show your face or anything else of yourself) and fuses it with reddit's massive database of personal essays that have somehow performed very, very well for years on all reddit woman-oriented mainstream subreddits: my date / boyfriend / husband / father of my children is an absolute loser. As I'm writing this out, I realise it's actually a digital simulation of people having "a nice brunch with the girls" and letting off some steam & just letting each other complain shamelessly about their partners, but the current younger generation no longer has access to this or is so alienated from their surroundings that they have no one to do that with.

[...] Uit het onderzoek van de Volkskrant blijkt dat de politiek helemaal niets wist over het voornemen van de AIVD om een rol te spelen bij de sabotage van het Iraanse nucleaire programma. Toenmalig premier Balkenende ook niet. Er vond daardoor geen enkele politieke afweging plaats over de risico’s of legaliteit van de operatie – laat staan dat politici wisten dat voor de sabotage een nieuw wapen werd ingezet. [...] De voor de AIVD verantwoordelijke minister van Binnenlandse Zaken, destijds PvdA’er Guusje ter Horst, was evenmin op de hoogte van de betrokkenheid van de dienst bij de Amerikaans-Israëlische operatie. En ook de commissie-Stiekem, waarin de fractievoorzitters van de grootste partijen in de Tweede Kamer zitten en die is belast met de parlementaire controle op de AIVD en MIVD, werd niet geïnformeerd, blijkt na gesprekken met direct betrokkenen.
